    I hired a freelancer to help me with some work. I posted the job on a freelance job board. 500+ applications poured in over the next 48 hours. 70% of them were just blind copy/pastes with zero effort. Didn’t even read the description. 25% were specific to the role, but the candidates either only talked about themselves or didn’t share enough relevant info. 4.8% were on point. Many of them would have been good hires, but... One person did something completely different. It set them head and shoulders above the other 499+ apps. First, they opened with a line mentioning something very specific I’d said in an interview. They told me how it resonated with them and tied it into their personal story. Second, they restated the goal I had for this role — they showed me they understood exactly what success looked like. Third, they gave me a personalized teaser of their work. They identified several topics we didn't rank for, they made a post outline with ideas to get ranked, then they shared a writing sample around one topic. Finally, they shared links to examples of relevant work they'd done for clients in the past. It probably took them an extra 2 hours total. And it landed them the job. Moral of the story? All companies want is to know that you understand their needs and you can deliver on them. Show them that and you'll win more job offers.

    🎯 There's a sweet spot when applying for #jobs. Here's how to hit it: Job listings typically specify: 1️⃣ Required qualifications 2️⃣ Preferred qualifications The successful candidate will likely have: 1️⃣ MOST of the required qualifications 2️⃣ SOME preferred qualifications To maximize your chances: 💡 Apply even if you don't meet 1-2 required qualifications. For example, the listing may require 5 years of management experience and you have 3. Your competitors may not check all the boxes either! ❌ Don't waste time applying if you have less than 2/3 of required qualifications or lack an absolutely key skill. For example, for a Java programmer with minimal C++, a senior C++ role is likely not a good fit. 📝 Tailor your #resume to each job, so the hiring manager can quickly see which minimum & preferred criteria you meet.     So true. Even if you are competing with hundreds of other applicants, most of the resumes will be generic. If your resume is tailored to match the job description, you have a much higher chance of getting an interview. Three most important ways to tailor your resume: 1. List the required hard skills, so the recruiter/ hiring manager can easily find them. For example, if the job description requires SQL, don't forget to mention it on your resume even if it wasn't the focus of your previous job. 2. Include achievements relevant to the reasons why the employer is hiring. For example, if the employer is looking for a manager to build a new team, focus on your experience building teams. 3. Quantify your achievements. For example, instead of just saying that you grew a team from 2 to 10, specify what value that team generated: "increased revenue by 250% by enabling enterprise sales," or whatever your future employer will want to hear more about.
