Finished Size 30 (33 1/2, 37, 40 1/2, 44, 47 1/2)" bust circumference.

Top shown measures 30"; modeled with 4" of negative ease.

Yarn Fibra Natura Cotton True Sport (100% Pima cotton; 197 yd [180 m]/1 3/4 oz [50 g]):

#115 frappe, 5 (5, 6, 7, 7, 8) balls.

Needles Size 2 (2.75 mm): straight, 16" circular (cir), and set of double-pointed (dpn).

Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions Markers (m); cable needle (cn); stitch holders; tapestry needle.

Gauge 27 sts and 34 rows = 4" in Back Twisted Chevron patt; 21 sts and 28 rows = 4" in Lace Rib patt.

NOTES

This top is worked back and forth in separate pieces and seamed.

When working the Back Twisted Chevron chart, if you do not have enough stitches to complete a cable, work the extra stitch as a purl stitch on the right side then knit the same stitch on the wrong side.

Stitch Guide

Lace Rib: (multiple of 3 sts)

Row 1 (RS) K1, p1, *yo, ssk, p1; rep from * to last st, k1.

Row 2 (WS) P1, *k1, yo, p2tog; rep from * to last 2 sts, k1, p1.

Rep Rows 1 and 2 for patt.

I-cord BO: *K2 (first two I-cord sts), k2tog tbl (one I-cord st tog with one live st), transfer 3 sts from right needle back to left needle; rep from * until required number of sts has been bound off.

BACK

With straight needles, CO 147 (165, 183, 201, 219, 237) sts.

Set-up row (WS) P1, *k1, p2; rep from * to last 2 sts, k1, p1. Work in Lace Rib (see Stitch Guide) until piece measures 15 1/2" from CO, ending with a RS row.

Next row (WS) P1, *k1, p2tog; rep from * to last 2 sts, k1, p1—99 (111, 123, 135, 147, 159) sts rem.

Next row (RS) Using the knitted method, CO 3 sts, then, using the I-cord method (see Stitch Guide) BO all sts—3 I-cord sts rem. BO 2 I-cord sts, leaving last st on needle, turn. With WS facing and working through innermost I-cord st (so that 2 sts show on RS), pick up and purl 0 (13, 5, 4, 3, 2) sts along cord, place marker (pm), [pick up and purl 14 sts along cord, pm] 7 (6, 8, 9, 10, 11) times, pick up and purl 1 (14, 6, 5, 4, 3) st(s) along cord—100 (112, 124, 136, 148, 160) sts total.

Next row (WS) BO 5 (5, 7, 7, 9, 9) sts, p1tbl, work in patt to last 2 sts, p1tbl, p1—90 (102, 110, 122, 130, 142) sts rem.

Dec row (RS) K1, k1tbl, ssp, work in patt to last 4 sts, p2tog, k1tbl, k1 - 2 sts dec'd.

Dec row (WS) P1, p1tbl, k2tog, work in patt to last 4 sts, ssk, p1tbl, p1—2 sts dec'd. Rep Dec row every row 0 (2, 0, 2, 4, 8) more times, then every RS row 4 (6, 8, 10, 10, 10) times—78 (82, 90, 94, 98, 102) sts rem. Left shoulder: Work 1 WS row even. At beg of RS rows, BO 4 sts once, then BO 3 sts once—20 (22, 26, 28, 30, 32) sts rem. Work 1 WS row even.

Dec row (RS) P1, p2tog, work in patt to end—1 st dec'd. Rep Dec row every RS row 2 more times—17 (19, 23, 25, 27, 29) sts rem. Work even until armhole measures 7 (7 1/2, 8, 8 1/2, 9, 9 1/2)", ending with a WS row. BO all sts in patt.

FINISHING

Block pieces to measurements. Sew shoulder seams, easing front ribbed sections to fit back shoulders. Sew side seams.

Armhole edging: With dpn and RS facing, beg at center of underarm and pick up and knit 96 (102, 112, 118, 124, 132) sts evenly around armhole edge. BO all sts pwise.

Neck edging: With cir needle and RS facing, beg at right shoulder and pick up and knit 17 sts along right back neck, 24 sts along center back BO edge, 17 sts along left back neck, 27 (30, 33, 35, 38, 41) sts along left front neck, 21 sts along center front BO edge, and 27 (30, 33, 35, 38, 41) sts along right front neck—133 (139, 145, 149, 155, 161) sts total. Pm and join in the rnd.

Next rnd Using the knitted method, CO 3 sts next to first st on left needle, then, using the I-cord method, BO all sts—3 I-cord sts rem. BO I-cord sts and sew end of cord neatly to beg of cord. Weave in ends. Block again if desired.
