Do you happen to know folks where the North Pole, I mean, the coldest point in the world is situated? Its here in Russia, in Yakutia. Frosts can reach as low as 70 degrees below zero in Celsius!
According to legend, the hands of the Heavenly keeper of treasures were so stiff with cold that while flying over Yakutia he dropped an innumerable number of diamonds and gold pieces onto the ground in the vicinity of the Lena and the Vilyuy rivers. These treasures are still being extracted from mines and open pits which cut through the layer of eternal frozen ground, up to half a kilometre deep.
The territory of Sakha-Yakutia is larger than France, Germany, Italy, England, Austria, Sweden, Finland and Greece combined!!! It is the largest region in Russia.
The Yakutsk sagas, olonkho, are considered to be masterpieces. And its surprising, but the New Year in Yakutia, called Ys-Ekh, is celebrated not during the frosty winter, but at the beginning of summer.
Great, isnt it! People are different, but there is one country!
