(WSYR-TV) — For nearly 50 years, the Hobie Catamaran Madcatter Regatta sailboats have brought in big crowds to the shores of Oneida Lake. This weekend they are back at it again. Here to fill us in on all the fun is Bob Longo, commodore of the Hobie Fleet 204.

Hobies are known for their brightly colored sails and exciting style.  The event is a celebration of 48 years of Hobie Cat sailing and racing in Central New York.

 Fleet 204 is active all year, travel to parts of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida and Canada for regattas.

Hobie Fleet 204 also hosts “Newbie Tuesday’s” every Tuesday at Therre’s Boat Launch, which is located at 6695 Lake Shore Road in Cicero for those interested in starting sailing.

Held at Oneida Shores County Park, the 3-day Hobie Catamaran Madcatter Regatta starts with a distance race on Friday followed by the points regatta Saturday and Sunday.
