Jarek Niewierowicz, head of the Lithuanian president’s Environment and Infrastructure Group, is leaving the position after becoming an independent member of the Supervisory Board of the Ukrainian nuclear energy company Energoatom.

“He [Niewierowicz] has been officially appointed as a member of the Supervisory Board of Energoatom. He will leave his job at the presidential office once his contract with Energoatom enters into force,” Frederikas Jansonas, an adviser to President Gitanas Nausėda, confirmed to BNS on Saturday.

According to him, Niewierowicz previously informed Nausėda that he was applying for the position on the Energoatom Supervisory Board.

The news agency Interfax Ukraine reported on Saturday that Ukraine’s cabinet had approved a new five-strong Supervisory Board of the Ukrainian nuclear energy company Energoatom.

According to Jansonas, “there are a number of candidates to be chosen” to replace Niewierowicz as head of the Environment and Infrastructure Group.

Niewierowicz has served as chief adviser to the president and as head of his Environment and Infrastructure Group since 2019. He served as Lithuania’s energy minister between 2012 and 2014.
