Description:

Do you feel overwhelmed? Do you experience work fatigue, depression, and the feeling like a massive list of to-dos is never done -- that there's always more to do and to be? Those feelings can make it nearly impossible for workers in cultural heritage institutions to feel creative. Where does the inspiration come from? Where does the desire to grow really begin, when all you're doing is maintaining?

In Cultivating Creativity, we'll focus on just that: the ways in which our creative spirit can thrive during difficult times -- if we let it!

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this class, students will be able to:

Describe how to harness personal strengths into their workflow
Delineate at least one method to identify & reframe obstacles
Detail a method for integrating their strengths and weaknesses into a regular creative practice that emphasizes all they have to offer with empathy and compassion

Instructor

Siobhan O'Loughlin (she/her) is a Los Angeles-based creative. She is the recipient of The New York Innovative Theatre Award for Outstanding Solo Performance, a grant recipient of the Network of Ensemble Theatres, a Moth Story Slam Champion, a fellow at Guild Hall of East Hampton, and an international teaching artist. Her site specific, immersive piece, Broken Bone Bathtub, toured globally for five consecutive years with over 600 performances in 40 different cities, was featured in the PBS Emmy-Award Winning Documentary Series Immersive World, and clocked top ten lists for theatre experiences from the Baltimore Sun, The San Francisco Examiner, and The Houston Chronicle. Broken Bone Bathtub is the recipient of the 2019 Immersion Award for Most Transformative Experience. O'Loughlin's feature-length documentary on Broken Bone Bathtub is currently in the distribution phase.

She pivoted in the Covid-era to perform weekly in her interactive serial digital art experiment, Please Don’t Touch the Artist (PDT), which earned No Proscenium’s Audience Choice Award for Outstanding Individual Performance in 2020. She serves the creative community as a creative for all types of makers looking to actualize their projects with strategy and intention, and she also works as a voice over artist with an industry standard home studio.
