Description:

IIIF (iiif.io) doesn’t just stand for a technical framework, it represents a global community of people working together towards advancing access to educational resources as well as engagement with these resources. Museum collections hold great value when it comes to the study of humanities. Using IIIF, digital collections around the world can be used for teaching, storytelling, and research across institutions.

In this session we’ll look at a variety of cultural organizations and their IIIF implementations. The case studies range from using IIIF to enable beautiful zooms on object webpages, to presenting digital tools in public galleries to explore ‘untouchable’ sketchbooks. We’ll see examples of IIIF used in teaching and to enhance storytelling with digital collections.

Join us to learn more about the IIIF initiative and its place and potential in the cultural sector. The use cases presented can inform how you could implement IIIF in your own institution, and expand possibilities for engagement with your digital collections.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the session, participants should be able to:

Demonstrate what IIIF is and what is possible with it
Discover museum practices when it comes to IIIF
Make use of case studies to inform your own use cases
