Prof. Dr. Elena García-Martín's research interests lie in the field of microbial plankton ecology, physiology, and the role of bacteria, phytoplankton, and zooplankton on marine carbon cycling. She has worked on the coupling or uncoupling between primary production and respiration processes and the influence of the community structure and environmental variables, such as temperature and dissolved organic matter, on the metabolic balance. Her recent projects have involved research cruises, as well as microcosm and mesocosm experiments in the laboratory with cultured bacteria, phytoplankton, zooplankton organisms, and natural plankton communities. In addition, she is renowned in the field of research and has served as a member of the UKRI Talent Peer Review College and a research representative of the Sustainable and Social Responsibility Committee (NOC).
Prof. Dr. José A.G. Agúndez, post-doctorate, is a director of the Institute of Molecular Pathology Biomarkers, University of Extremadura, Cáceres, Spain. After completing his medical degree, he was accepted as a Ph.D. student in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Extremadura (Extremadura, Spain). By the late 1980s and early 1990s, he moved to the Department of Pharmacology at Biozentrum der Universität Basel (Basel, Switzerland). He was appointed as a professor at the Medical School of the University of Extremadura, where he started working on combining his interests in medicine, enzymology, pharmacology, and pharmacogenomics.
