Portrait of Yousur Al-Hlou

Yousur Al-Hlou

I report on and investigate stories in conflict zones around the world, using a mix of traditional field reporting, visual evidence gathering and original cinematography.

I have worked at The Times since 2015. My work covering Russia’s war in Ukraine alongside many talented colleagues was awarded a George Polk Award, a DuPont Award, an Edward R. Murrow Award and the 2022 Pulitzer Prize for International Reporting. Previously, I was a global fellow for The Associated Press in Jerusalem, an associate producer at the Investigative Reporting Program at the University of California, Berkeley, and an associate producer at Al Jazeera’s flagship documentary program, “Fault Lines.” I earned my master’s degree from the Graduate School of Journalism at U.C. Berkeley.

As a Times journalist, I share the values and adhere to the standards of integrity outlined in The Times’s Ethical Journalism Handbook.
