Tusk will meet with Luxembourg's Prime Minister Luc Frieden at Senningen Castle, with further discussions planned over a working lunch.

The two leaders will arrive directly from Brussels, where they attended an informal European Council summit.

The summit, which extended late into the night, centered on filling key positions within the European Union.

Despite lengthy debates, the leaders of the 27 member states did not reach an agreement, necessitating further discussions, news agencies reported.

Tusk announced that the European People's Party has officially backed Malta’s Roberta Metsola for a second term as European Parliament president and Germany’s Ursula von der Leyen for a second term as president of the European Commission.

Speculation suggests that former Portuguese Socialist Prime Minister Antonio Costa could be the next president of the European Council, while Estonian liberal Prime Minister Kaja Kallas is the top candidate for EU foreign policy chief.

However, these nominations have yet to gain support from other political groups.
