Bagful of medals for Polish canoeists, kayakers in Hungary

Poland has won 14 medals, including three gold, at the 2024 Canoe Sprint European Championships, which ended in Szeged, Hungary on Sunday.

On the last day of competition, Poland’s Dorota Borowska became European champion in the women's C1 200 metres.

A day earlier, Borowska won silver medals together with teammate Sylwia Szczerbińska in the women's C2 200 m and C2 500 m.

Countrywoman Justyna Iskrzycka also claimed three medals in Szeged, including the gold in the K1 1000 m.

Meanwhile, Katarzyna Kołodziejczyk earned four medals from four events, three silvers and a bronze. She finished second in the women's K2 200 m together with Sandra Ostrowska and in the K2 500 m with Iskrzycka.

Kołodziejczyk also finished runner-up in the women's K4 500 m event.

Additionally, she claimed the bronze in the K1 200 m.

On the men's side, Poland's Oleksii Koliadych became European champion in the men's C1 200 m, while the Polish team of Jakub Stepun, Przemysław Korsak, Piotr Morawski and Sławomir Witczak won the silver in the K4 500 m.

Stepun also earned the silver in the men's K1 200 m and finished second in the K2 200 m together with Korsak.

Meanwhile, the canoe duo of Wiktor Głazunow and Arsen Śliwiński bagged a silver for Poland in the men’s C2 500 m.

Competitors from 38 countries took part in the 2024 Canoe Sprint European Championships, which were held in Szeged from June 12 to 16.

Host nation Hungary topped the overall standings, with a total of 19 medals, including 10 gold, while Poland finished second in the medals table.
