He will be performing on an instrument believed to be the largest Polish-made concert grand piano.

The instrument, which is 280 cm long, was built by Gustaw Fibiger III in Kalisz, western Poland, in 1938.

Following a recent renovation, the piano is currently used by the Kalisz Philharmonic.

Makowicz’s recital is part of an event that aims to promote the activities of the Association of Polish Piano Tuners.

The event includes a screening of the documentary Dusza zaklęta w fortepianie (The Soul of a Piano) by Judyta Fibiger, the granddaughter of Gustaw Fibiger III, the last owner of the Fibiger piano factory.

The film traces the history of the factory, which was founded in 1873 and remained in the hands of the Fibiger family until 1947.

Gustaw Fibiger III continued to work in the factory after it was nationalized in the wake of World War II and changed its name to Calisia.

He was the founder and longtime director of the School for Piano Builders in Kalisz. He died in 1989.

Judyta Fibiger, 49, is a director and producer of documentary films, as well as a writer.

The Soul of a Piano features figures including Oscar-winning Polish composer Jan A.P. Kaczmarek, who died on Tuesday after a long illness at the age of 71.
