What American thing is not that common but shown in many Hollywood movies/TV shows ?
Im not an American but watching Hollywood movies and TV shows for many years. So I see some things in many movies. For ex a big roasted Turkey at the center of table during thanksgiving which I guess does happen in many households. There may be many such small regular things that are common in real life as well. But is there something that is portrayed as American but in reality not that regular there?
Presents where the box lid is wrapped separately from the rest of the box.
That's one of those things that has nothing to do with reality and everything to do with what makes more sense on set. The ol' "lift the lid off the present" exists because they can shoot it as many times as they like and it doesn't take any time to reset.
Similarly, it drives me crazy that they rarely put liquid in coffee cups and the actors just carry them empty. You can always tell by the way they're holding it. Also, if there's a scene in a car with the driver talking to someone in the back seat, they almost always remove the headrests on the seats.
I’ve read this last one so many times but then forget it by the time I see a movie with people talking in cars. I am going to be so mad when I one day remember this.
It's in a very famous meme!
And all they'd have to do is put water in the goddamn cups to make it have weight and be believable. Why do they not do that?
Or a balloon filled with water
It drives me bonkers when they set an empty cup down pretending it's full. An empty cup makes a completely different sound than one filled with liquid! Oh the inhumanity of it all! LOL!
A couple of years ago I wrapped boxes like that for all the gifts I gave. Family did not find it as funny as I did.
I do this! Then it's super easy to open, no mess, and you can reuse the box
I started using quilting “fat quarters”. They’re durable and come in lots of nice prints. Oftentimes you can get assortments of fabrics. I just zigzag the edges so that they don’t fray. Once the presents are opened, I just collect, wash, dry and fold the fabric. It stores very compactly. I’ve bought some larger pieces (quilting cotton by the yard) for larger presents. My daughter has some favorite prints for her birthday. The Christmas fabrics are becoming familiar like our ornaments.
