Dune Reviews
Hot take I like this one better than 2. It is steeped in mystery and struggles. People underestimate the horror of Paul. He has lost everything and is in a path to power no one can comprehend. The seven were he powers up and stares down the reverend mother is the most powerful scene in a movie since Neo Seeing the Matrix.
I sci-fi epic that reminded me why I love science fiction in film
This version is Denis Villeuve adaptation of the book which was very well done. Am I going to criticize some choices? Absolutely not. Visual, soundtracks, score and actors… extremely well selected.
Starts out too slow and with too much to keep track of right out the gate. I don’t want to start a movie and immediately have to start taking notes. Ease me into that stuff. Couldn’t get through the first half hour. If I wanted to think this much I’d watch a standard drama or mystery thriller.
Breath taking. An instant classic. I can't wait for more.
Help me sleeps well, highly recommend
Really boring movie! I heard that dune part 2 was one of the best movies ever for many so I decided to first watch part one in order to watch part two after. Two and a half hours of my life lost! It was also really difficult to understand and I really confusing. I can’t recommend this movie at all.
I loved this film. Some might find the pacing tedious, but I thought it was brilliant. Studios have been trying to do justice to Frank Herbert’s novel since the 1980’s (recall David Lynch’s regrettable 1984 adaptation, and the low budget television miniseries in 2000), but they finally got it right. Denis Villeneuve’s tone supports the material perfectly. A complex tale of feuding intergalactic houses, holy war, and prophecies, it’s not material for the timid filmmaker, and the reason so many have failed in the past. Supported by fantastic performances by the entire cast, the film is epic in scope and production.
The writing , the acting, the special effects are amazing, it's a good movie since I am a Fan of the Dune Franchise. Still think the 1984 version is the best though, this one is good too.
The initial pacing is admittedly slow and can be difficult to go through at the start (or arguably the whole movie until the climax), and the outfits of some characters are goofy and odd to say the least, but the characters and settings are (mostly) well built. I can see much similarity (or inspiration) with other sci-fi films such as Star Wars, mostly with the newer trilogy, which I have conflicted feelings towards. The story itself seems odd in my opinion, but it’s something that sits well when the movie is primarily centered around the CGI and effects, which are impressive, I’ll admit (not like I’m a critic or anything).
Where’s the lightsabers?
Dune by Denis Villeneuve is quite simply amazing cinema!
Phenomenal if you have a big screen and home surround sound. Special effects are better than anything I’ve seen. Great story. Great actors. Believable and relatable characters. A must-see.
Really good. Having seen the David Lynch version and this as well as part 2, I can say this is a very strong start. Part 2 not so much.
Loved Dune ! I wanted to learn more about this world. I started reading the books after watching the movie. Book 1 down 6 more to go ! sooo good!!!
Boring movie. Couldn't even finish it. All hype.
This is by far one of the best sci-fi movies! The chinematography is beautiful!
