With more than 360,000 living alumni, the University of South Carolina has stories to tell, and Carolinian is here to tell them. From celebrated artists, scientists and business leaders to everyday alumni who embody the spirit of Carolina, this is our story — and this is your magazine.

Carolinian is published three times a year and distributed to members of the USC Alumni Association. Select features from the print edition can be found here, alongside web-exclusive stories, videos and interviews that celebrate our successes, revisit our history and remind us what it means to be a Carolinian. Forever to thee!

Let it Reign!

Maybe you were shouting from the stands in Cleveland as Dawn Staley’s women’s basketball team brought home the third national championship in program history. Maybe you were among the 24 million viewers watching on TV as they turned a so-called rebuilding year into an undefeated season and rings all around. Maybe you were even out there in the Thomas Cooper reflecting pool with several hundred other ecstatic Gamecocks, making a splash all your own.

Wherever you watched, however you celebrated, you’ll want to check out our photo retrospective on the perfect season that was. You’ll also want to check out the other proud Gamecocks strutting their stuff this spring. From an up-close look at USC’s award-winning first-year experience to a profile of ed tech entrepreneur Laura Boccanfuso to a tribute to Gamecock Olympians past, our latest issue offers plenty of reasons to feel cocky. We’ve even got a freshly brewed German-style lager on tap, courtesy of alumnus and Columbia brewer Scott Burgess, whose picturesque riverfront biergarten is the perfect place to raise a toast.

Inside Carolina

USC unveils monument honoring desegregation pioneers

Last month, the university unveiled a new monument honoring the three students who desegregated USC in 1963. We’ll take you to the ceremony that marked this important moment in university history, plus go behind the scenes with world-renowned sculptor Basil Watson and with Henrie Monteith Treadwell, who led this important civil rights effort 60 years ago.
