Introduction
The Gadrwyn Waeth is a guild of magi located in the travelling town of Adelfarn. Because the town has traveled far and wide over the centuries the wizards have acquired a considerable breadth of magical knowledge. Many of the arcane spells described below are commonly taught by the guild to its apprentices, and are documented in the guild library. Others are carefully stored in warded chambers lest the foolish or the power hungry misuse them. The spells have been obtained from many worlds, and so are not unique to any one setting.
At heart of the guild residence is the great Alton Hall, where the library and research records of the Waeth are kept. This bell-shaped chamber rises the full height of the building and is capped by an ornate stone dome. Hanging from the center of this dome by some invisible means is a large silvery sphere from which cascades a constant shower of tinkling drops of light. These musical lights serve to illuminate every recess of the great hall, and their pleasing melody masks out all but the loudest disturbances. The illuminating drops gently fall and disperse until they wink out just short of the ground.
At the center of the circular hall is the reading area, a lowered floor where the magi can relax on luxurious accommodations while reading manuscripts. From the outer concourse a wide, spiralling ramp gradually rises along the outer wall toward the ceiling in a series of wide steps. At the back of the steps are the multitudes of bookcases
1 where the documents, manuscripts, tomes, and scrolls of the library are stored. Most of these works have been obtained over the course of many centuries, and many are only maintained in a useable state through the use of magic. A few of the works have been researched and written by members of the guild itself, and these have received a place of honor in a set of marble shelves along the bottom floor. Most of these works were written in the scripting chamber, which lies just outside the hall.
The head librarian, Thelda Rost, along with her male assistant and the aid of some eerie but dedicated extra-planar servants runs this expansive hall. The true form of these enchanted beings is difficult to discern, as they appear as a continual blur and fly quietly about the library with great rapidity. Whatever their nature, however, their aid is invaluable as between them they seem to know the whereabouts and contents of virtually every work in the library. One need merely summon a servant with the calling chime and they will almost instantly perform your bidding.

Spell Books
The following spell books can be found in the library of the Gadrwyn Waeth.
Yardley the Vivimancer
Yardley is an adept in the little known study of magic known as Vivimancy. These wizards use their intimate knowledge of primal forces of life to create, mutate, and ultimately enhance living things. They serve as the magical antipode to the practice of Necromancy, whose dark skills they abhor. Despite this conflict, Vivimancers are equally loathed by most good folk because of the abominations they have created and the child monstrosities for which they are often blamed. Hence, Vivimancers are rarely found in civilized places, instead preferring to rule their remote nature enclaves with an iron will.
7 Because life is inherently chaotic, the research of new Vivimancy spells has inherent risks for the adept. Improperly researched spells can cause a primal backlash from the life force. While this backlash may sometimes prove beneficial, more often than not the adept will mutate into a less capable life form. These mutations include bodily growths, new limbs, changes in skin, bone, and organs, enhancements or loss of senses, and even a complete mutation into an entirely new life form. Such mutations have a horrific effect on the appearance of the Vivimancer, so these wizards are rarely seen without heavy green robes.
Vivimancy is a sub-branch of the specialized school of transmutation. Due to the inherent conflicts between the two magical forms, Necromancers are prohibited from employing the specially developed spells of Vivimancy. These special spells will never function on barren ground, such as the sands of a wasteland, a deep glacier, or land blighted by evil.
Vivimancers are rarely encountered outside their enclaves, and the only acknowledgement of their secret existence will be occasional rumors, most seemingly quite implausible. The Vivimancer Yardley dwells in a secluded forest basin within a remote mountain range. Merely accessing this well-hidden valley is a grueling task, as the route has no worn trails and meanders through rugged terrain with many pit-falls and obstacles. The basin is home to a unique spring of life force that gives rise to towering trees and many unique life forms found nowhere else.
This strong life force has allowed Yardley to bend the wildlife in the basin to his will, adding defenses and unique organisms that serve his whims. At the core of this refuge is a huge tree that bears many of the intelligent aspects of a Treant, although it is quite immobile. Yardley has shaped the interior of this immense tree to form many chambers in which he can dwell and continue his studies.
The great tree is the center of a village of forest elves who dwell in harmony within the basin, and provide protection to Yardley. Hanging bridges and tree houses sprout within the heights of this forest, and the elves rarely need to descend to the forest floor to fulfill their daily requirements.
In addition to the elves, Yardley has other defenses designed to hinder and drive away invaders. A dense wall of thorn trees surrounds his sanctuary and creates an all but impermeable barrier to outsiders. Within the ring of trees is an area of swampy woodlands that is patrolled by Ogre-like, half-animal half-plant creations known as the Sentinels. Yardley has specially bred these deadly creatures for the purpose.
Yardley once dwelled with civilized folk in a large port city, practicing the delicate art of chiurgy. A local noble hired Yardley to aid his lady in bearing a child. Unfortunately the Vivimancer discovered that the child was flawed and he used his magic in an attempt to heal the crippled infant. When the child was born, it was discovered to be a monster that lived for only a few weeks. When the horrible creature finally died, the Vivimancer was banished from the land and was relentlessly pursued by assassins. He has hidden in this valley ever since.
Over the decades Yardley has discovered many new secrets of the arts of Vivimancy. Some of this knowledge has allowed him to live a greatly extended life span, although his physical form has become quite ghastly as a result. His greatest secrets have been placed inside living spell books that he manufactured to ward the knowledge within.
The tough cover of these tomes has the appearance of an elephant hide, and they are especially resistant to damage as a result. They are slightly warm to the touch and occasionally shudder when stroked. Embossed on the covers is the bass relief image of the head of a beast that has some almost human features. The mouths are gaping open as if to bite. Actual fangs are imbedded in the surface of the books and anything placed inside the slightly moist mouth depression will cause the books to bite down for 1d4hp of damage.
The books are sealed shut around the edges like a rectangular clamshell, and will only open voluntarily when the cover is touched in the correct pattern. The books can be physically forced open with a successful Strength check against DC 15, but doing so will cause toxic quills to spring out of the binding edges. Unless a Fortitude save versus DC 15 is successful, the poison will initially inflict 1d6 of temporary Con loss, followed by 2d4 of temporary Con loss a minute later.
The pages have the appearance of a living skin and will rustle restlessly if the book is left in an open state. Examination of the pages will reveal a pattern of faint lines that look like blood vessels. Indeed, a light touch will detect a faint pulse, and cutting a page will release a pale green fluid. The pages feel warm to the touch and are easily bruised when struck. However the damage will heal slowly over the course of several days.
The books are capable of regenerating from any damage short of total destruction. If some portion of the books remains intact they will recover from the damage at the rate of 1% per day. This regenerative process will slowly reconstruct any knowledge recorded inside the books. It requires a special tattoo process to record the spells in these books. The rare ink used in this process is magical in nature and quite expensive to produce.

This wizard grew up the daughter of an eccentric tinker mage named Hadroc, a transmuter wizard who specialized in animating small puppets and other mechanical contrivances. Shortly after giving birth to Angelle, her mother left Hadroc due to irreconcilable differences. Basically the man all but ignored her and proved quite unacceptable as a husband and father.
Unfortunately for Angelle, her mother died giving birth to her second child from her lover. The scoundrel had no interest in caring for the orphaned infant, so he arranged to have Angelle sent back to her proper father.
As her mother had discovered, Angelle's father had poor child rearing skills and spared only the minimal amount of time from his researches to her care. He hired a local nanny to look after Angelle and returned to spend most of his time in the lab.
The lack of proper parental care proved quite emotionally debilitating to Angelle, and she grew to be a neurotic child who was prone to tantrums and other displays in an attempt to gain some form of attention and love. When she was old enough she spent as much time as she could in Hadroc's lab, gaining his attentions by providing assistance, catering to her fathers needs, and generally watching whatever he did.
In time Angelle proved adept at the tinkering skills and she came to find the clever little animated gadgets filled an emotional void in her life. Her abilities came to the attention of a visiting wizardly peer of Hadroc, and she was accepted as an apprentice in the study of magic.
Her single-minded devotion to the arts, and lack of appreciable social interests to distract her from her studies brought Angelle along by leaps and bounds. Despite her troubling emotional difficulties and severe introversion, the wizard found her an exceptional student.
Angelle spent much of the remainder of her life attempting to satisfy a deep seated need for fulfilling companionship through the construction of ever more sophisticated animated creations. Her complex golems and animated familiars were the stuff of legend in some quarters.
Unfortunately Angelle never found the love of her life, and could never seem to relate emotionally with the few men who courted her interest. She did come to enjoy the company of certain gnomes, finding their skills at tinkering with gadgets quite appealing. Indeed at one time her workshop had a crew of a half dozen master gnomish craftsmen.
Angelle left behind a remarkable body of work, much of which has found its way into private libraries and personal displays. The local lord still has several animated knights that he occasionally brings out to amuse visiting nobles. Among the works of Angelle is her animated spell book, a very novel construction that has never been successfully duplicated.
The spell books consist of green-hued leather-covered slate bindings bound with bronze. The hinges are also leather, and blend seamlessly with the heavy, round spine. At the bottom of the spine the leather flows into the form of a four-clawed foot. This foot appears to be from an unknown beast of some kind, and its toes are splayed in an awkward pattern around the binding.
9 At the top of the spine is a four-clawed hand that roughly matches the features of the foot. The two opposing thumbs of the hand are normally closed about the outer binding and serve to keep the book sealed.
When the book is placed upright on a table, the foot and hand come alive, and adjust the book for convenient reading. The book is tilted back slightly, but rests firmly upon the wide foot. Upon speaking a command word, the hand pages through the pages of the book until the proper spell is found. It then grips the book tightly in the open position, preventing pages from changing in a draft.
The appendages to the boot are tough but not invulnerable. They have a natural armor rating of +4 and can take 10hp of damage before being severed. Once amputated the binding gradually comes apart over the course of several days and the book must be rebound to be properly useful. It will never again have the useful properties provided by the appendages.
The Secret Page spell was used by Angelle to conceal her unique Angelle's Object Animator spell.

Abomination

The spell for which the Vivimancers are infamous, abomination will allow the caster to experiment upon the form of a child within a womb. Much like the polymorph other spell, the caster can make any permanent alteration to the form of the fetus. However he can not change its overall dimensions, or its fundamental composition. A successful Fortitude saving throw by the mother will resist these alterations.
These alterations are usually simple changes, such as an extra arm, stubby legs, asymmetrical face, removal of an extra digit, straightening a mishapen bone, and so forth. Should the fetus survive in its altered form, it will retain these features after birth. Note that while this spell can be used to cause birth defects, it can also be used to repair the same - a fact that is rarely brought up by lay persons. Both actions are caused by transmuting specific features of the child into the desired form, and the total mass of the child can not be altered. Note that the being will retain its altered features even after it has died.
This spell will cause a dense bloom of algae to instantaneously appear within a volume of water. This bloom will reduce the range of all forms of sight to a few inches, although sound-based senses will readily penetrate the bloom. The bloom will remain where it appeared until currents disperse it, and may even spread if conditions are right. If cast in saltwater this spell will still create a bloom, but the algae will soon die leaving a dense cloud of brown organic matter that will slowly sink to the bottom over the course of several hours.

Ambush

This spell will allow a group of creatures to blend into the surrounding terrain, improving the odds of a successful ambush. Up to once creature per level within a 30-ft. radius of the target location can be concealed with this spell. All effected creatures gain a +10 bonus to their Hide skill.
11 To remain concealed the effected creatures must lay on the ground or curl up in a hole or niche and remain nearly motionless. The creatures must lay close the ground and can not crawl more than 5 ft. per round. While doing so, they remain all but undetectable to the senses of sight and smell. Once a creature breaks cover from this spell he remains visible thereafter. If the caster moves out of range of this spell then it is instantly negated.
An interesting effect that has been the subject of much experimentation in the living laboratories of the Vivimancer, this spell will cause the ancestral traits of the subjects to express themselves. The target will quickly revert to a more primitive life form selected by the caster at some point along the chain of evolution. For example, a human could be reverted to an ape, a tree shrew, or a simple amphibian. The target will assume all the physical and mental properties of the primitive life form, but will retain whatever skills and feats such a being is capable of acquiring. All equipment worn by the subject will retain its original shape. Ancestral form is also known as the devolution spell.
The target of this spell is able to safely hold on to any surface, regardless of how slick the material may be. This spell negates the effect of a grease spell or oil of slipperiness. It also allows the target to scale a vertical surface as if by means of a spider climb spell, although it doesn't allow clinging to a ceiling. Finally it allows wet or frozen surfaces to be traversed at a normal movement rate without slipping.
While underwater the target of this spell can walk across a firm surface at half the normal land movement rate. It also allows the target to cling to the slick sides of a moving vessel or aquatic life form while submerged.
Angelle's Animator

This spell is an arcane version of the Animate Objects spell with some very definite limitations. The object to be animated must be a masterwork that has been crafted into the desired shape by an artisan. It can only consist of solid, non-magical materials of the highest quality. The animated object then behaves as you command. The statistics for animated objects are listed in the Monster Manual.

Arynn's Cage of Fire

At the completion of this spell a hemispherical cage of fiery bars appears centered on the target location and capturing anybody therein with the heat. The bars are made purely from raging fire and emit an intense heat. These bars are separated from each other by a maximum spacing of 1 ft., allowing projectiles such as arrows or bolts or diminutive-sized creatures to pass between the bars. Any creatures within the cage receive the equivalent of one-quarter cover from ranged attacks between the bars.
Anybody attempting to reach between the bars will suffer 1d8hp of burn damage. Touching a bar will inflict 2d8hp of fire damage per round. Actually trying to pass through the cage walls will inflict an amount of damage equal to 2d8hp for every 5-ft. of face of the creature, both for width and height. Thus a 5-ft. by 5-ft. creature will suffer 4d8hp of damage, while larger creatures will suffer much greater damage. The maximum damage that can be inflicted to any one creature during a round, however, is 10d6hp. In all instances the damage from the bars is halved on a successful Reflex saving throw.
A fog cloud or obscuring mist spell will suppress the flames, as will natural vapors, resulting in half the normal damage in the spell area. Any portion of the cage completely doused in water will be snuffed out for a full round, but the flames will spring back into place immediately afterward.
Material Component: A frame made of balsa wood that has been soaked in sulphurous oil, which bursts into flame upon casting the spell.
This spell will summon a deep bed of leaves on the ground. The bed will occupy a total radius of 20 ft. but will only grow substantially deep within a 15-ft. radius. The pile is 7 to 8 ft. deep at the center.
This bed will serve to cushion anybody falling from above. The leaves will reduce the effective falling distance by 10-ft. for anybody dropping within 5 ft. of the center. The pile will also hinder any medium-size or smaller creatures passing through the 15-ft. inner radius by reducing the movement rate one third. Finally, if the pile of leaves is successfully set alight they will produce a smoky, smoldering fire lasting for an hour.
The target of this spell is able to see from any unobstructed point of view within 10 ft. When he fires a ranged weapon directly at this point, the trajectory of the missile is then bent at the required angle before resuming its flight toward the sighted target. Thus, for example, the spell target is able to fire arrows around a corner while staying completely out of sight. The range to the target includes the distance to the turning point, and in all other respects the missile behaves normally. The point of view of the spell target can be changed at will, and can be turned in any direction.
Focus: A mirror mounted at an angle on a small metal rod.
This spell allows the caster to create a small fire with black flames, emitting no light but providing warmth equivalent to a campfire. The fire must still be supplied with combustible fuel or it will die out normally.
Material Component: A lump of coal.
Blazing Bolo

This spell creates three globes of lightning, each of which is attached to a common center by sparkling blue strands. The entire creation is whirled about the head by the caster, then flung towards a foe. On a successful ranged touch attack the spinning globes wrap about the creature, erupting in a blaze of electricity.
Each round the spell remains active the target suffers 3d6hp of damage and is entangled. A successful Fortitude saving throw will half the damage. The maximum damage that can be inflicted by a blazing bolo spell is 9d6.
Material Component: A copper pin suspended from a string.
With this spell, the effectiveness of all slashing and piercing weapons is improved within the spell area. This spell also improves the effectiveness of such natural weapons as claws, spines, horns, and fangs. Within the spell area the threat range of all slashing and piercing weapons is doubled.
Note that this spell can be a double-edged sword, so to speak, as the allies of the caster will also suffer increased damage from weapons. Thus this spell is often best employed when missile fire can be targeted into the spell area. This spell can also be especially effective when the opponents are exclusively using bludgeoning weapons.
Bloodhound

With this spell the caster is able to smell as efficiently as a hunting dog, allowing him to track any creature or object that emits an odor. The caster will gain the benefit of the scent feat for the duration of the spell, regardless of his current Wisdom score. This provides a +4 bonus to the Wilderness Lore checks. Note that this spell will not function underwater.
Arcane Material Component: A dried lump of animal dung, which must be rubbed between the fingers in front of the nose.
Body of Water

When this spell is cast, the body and possessions of the caster appear to melt into a pool of dark liquid. The fluid can move about the floor at the same movement rate as the caster, and can flow through very small cracks or porous materials. However the liquid caster can not effect the physical world in any way, and he is unable to cast spells. However he can still use all of his normal senses from his current perspective.
If the liquid body of the caster becomes divided, then all of the droplets flow back together at the movement rate of the caster to form a single pool. Should parts of the pool become permanently separated from one another, then the caster is contained in the largest remaining body of fluid and he suffers damage in proportion to the loss of fluid. Thus if a third of his body is permanently separated then he loses one third of his total hit points.
While in this form the spell caster is immune to the effects of normal weapons. Magical weapons will only inflict their magical bonus in damage. However, he suffers double the normal damage from either heat or cold. If he contacts a sufficient quantity of dry, moisture absorbent material, such as wool or cloth, then he is held until the spell is cancelled.
The liquid body becomes the same temperature as the underlying ground within a round and he can not be seen with infravision. If the caster enters a body of water, he is very difficult to see and is normally invisible beyond 5 ft.
When this spell is cast the target is able to float effortlessly in a body of water, even if he is weighed down with armor and equipment that would normally drag him under. He can bear a weight up to a medium load, plus any additional small load he can keep afloat by swimming motions. He can swim at the normal rate, unless hindered by armor, and is not fatigued by the additional weight he is carrying.
The extra buoyancy has a drawback, however, in that any attempts to swim underwater require additional effort to stay under the surface. His movement rate while swimming underwater is half the normal amount.

Burning Eyes

When this spell is cast, beams of red heat begin to radiate from the eyes of the caster. Wherever these beams contact a surface within 10 ft., the material begins to heat up, igniting after a full round or turning red with forge-like heat after two full rounds. The beams can be used to ignite fires, burn ropes, and even slowly cut through metal. This spell will not inflict damage against a dodging target however, as the caster will be unable to focus the beams on one location for a sufficient duration to cause burns. Helpless targets will suffer 1d6hp plus 1hp per level of heat damage per round.
Because targeting this spell requires focused vision and concentration, the caster is subject to opportunity attacks while attempting to ignite or melt materials. Shutting eyelids will temporarily disable the beams, and a successful blindness spell will immediately cancel the burning eyes spell.
Material Components: A clear glass marble or a lens and a piece of glassy sulfur.
Calm Air

This spell allows the caster to create a pocket of calm air that is all but free from disturbance by winds. Even the most extreme natural winds will become a mild breeze within the spell area. The spell will nullify the whispering wind, gust of
16 wind, and wind wall spells within the spell area. It will also reduce any winds created by the contron winds spell by one step per four levels. Finally it will halve the rate of advance of clouds or mists, such as from a cloudkill spell. However, contact with a creature from the elemental plane of air will instantly negate the calm air spell.

Cavern Close

The target of this spell is a cavern mouth or a natural stone cave or passage with a maximum dimension of 10 ft or less. Upon completing the invocation, a coruscating blue light leaves the hand of the caster and settles about the sides of the selected opening. As the caster slowly brings his palms together, the faintly glowing tunnel mouth will then pucker closed with a grating and grinding noise, leaving only a grapefruit-sized opening in the center. Placing a sufficiently large object in the opening will ensure that the hole is completely sealed. The caster must be in contact with the surrounding stone when this spell is cast or it will automatically fail.
Arcane Material Component: A small bottle of glass or clay.
This spell will summon a horde of hard-shelled insects that emerge from the clothing and cover the target in a living coat. The insects will protect the body of the subject, providing a +3 bonus to AC. The insects will also ward against insect swarms, negating the effect of a summon swarm spell on the subject. This cloak can only be worn over bare flesh or animal- based products such as silk, cloth, wool, or leather. It will not function if the target is wearing metal armor or protected by a mage armor spell.
Each time the subject is successfully damaged by a single attack for at least 4hp, some of the insects are crushed and the bonus to the AC is reduced by one. After suffering repeated blows, once the armor class bonus drops to zero the remaining insects will drop off and flee for cover. Spells can also effect the cloak, and the insects save with Fort +4, Ref +2, or Will -1. The insects will depart if the target becomes submerged in water or some other liquid.
This spell is commonly used to test the nerve of initiates to certain cults. The insects constantly shift and move about the target, producing an unnerving effect. The first time this spell is cast upon any target besides the caster, the recipient must make Wisdom check against DC 10 or immediately throw all the insects off. Doing so will immediately negate the spell. The target will repeat this behavior each time the spell is cast thereafter until a successful Wisdom check is made.
Arcane Material Component: Live Beetle.
17 Cloud Runes

The caster of this spell can shape existing water vapors inside the effected area into simple forms. These clouds will remain in place until dispersed by winds or changes in atmospheric temperature and humidity. If cast in a location where clouds do not appear, the misty forms will dissolve when the spell expires. In dry, desert conditions no clouds whatsoever can be gathered to form into the desired shape.
When cast in an area where vaporous creatures manifest themselves, this spell can provide the caster some degree of control over such beings. If any such effected target fails a Willpower saving throw it is held as if by a hold monster spell.
This spell has no effect on magic that creates or manipulates water vapors.
Material Component: Wool from a sheep.
Communal Mood

This spell allows the caster to sense a emotion shared in common by any three or more individuals within the spell area. Thus if a group was terrified of a particular individual then the caster could be able to sense this fact. The individuals must be within 50 feet of each other, and they must all have an intelligence of 3 or better.
The target creatures are allowed a single Will saving throw to resist this spell, using the highest Will score of all creatures in the target area. If the roll is successful then the caster receives no reading at all.
Compel Testimony

While this spell is in effect the target must make a Willpower saving throw. On a failed throw he is compelled to truthfully answer any questions he can understand that are put to him by the caster. However the response can only be in the form of a single word. This answer is always literally true, but may be misleading based upon the type of question being asked. If the target is utterly incapable of answering the question with a single word then he is not required to respond.
This spell does not compel the target to remain inactive, and he can flee if he chooses to do so. Each time the answer to a question would cause the target to break a vow; place him in further jeopardy; or endanger somebody or something he holds dear, then he can make another Willpower saving throw with a +4 bonus to negate this spell.
The ring of the caster projects a cone of darkness that hides everything inside from sight, much like the 2nd level spell darkness, 15' radius. The cone moves with the caster, and can be pointed in a different direction once per round, much as a flashlight would project light.
Focus: A one-foot length glass rod that has been covered in soot from a flame. This focus is used to aim the cone of darkness.
Upon casting this spell the priest will be able to just the distance between any two locations he can see clearly with his naked eye to a remarkable level of accuracy. At a glance he can measure distances with an accuracy of one part in a hundred. If he concentrates for a full round then the accuracy is improved to one part in a thousand.
This spell will allow the caster to construct highly accurate maps and to craft parts to exacting specifications. Any properly designed mechanisms that are constructed by a skilled artisan with the aid of this spell will function flawlessly and without need for shims.
This spell will allow the target to perform accurate missile attacks. While the spell is in effect the target gains the benefit of the precise shot and point blank shot feats. He can also precisely ascertain whether he can successfully leap across any gap, with or without the aid of a jump spell.
Arcane Material Component: A strand of hair at least one ft. in length.
Upon completing this spell the caster can cause a body of water to flow in an entirely different direction within the spell area. The rate of flow of the water is 1 knot/level relative to the underlying ground, up to a maximum of 7 knots. It can be cast on a specific location, or centered on a small vessel. This spell can never cause a body of water to overflow its banks, but it can steadily propel a small boat in the direction of the current.
This spell has no effect on water-based creatures, such as beings from the elemental plane of water.
19 Arcane Material Component: Pebble from the bottom of a river.
By means of this spell, the caster enables the recipient to sense movements, currents, and density fluctuations in the surrounding water. This tactile sense allows him to see, even in total darkness, the approximate types of creatures moving through the water within 40 ft.; the strength and direction of currents; and any fresh or salt-water influx. Huge creatures can be sensed to a distance of up to ten times their size. Any moving creatures within 20 ft. can be targeted by means of this spell.
Arcane Material Component: A piece of shark hide that must be rubbed on the hands while casting.
Death of a Thousand Knives

When this ritual is completed, the target begins to suffer cuts from an invisible talon that penetrates even the toughest armor. While he remains within range of the caster the victim is slowly and painfully sliced apart. Each round the spell is in effect the target must make a Reflex saving throw or suffer 1hp of slashing damage. The constant pain from these many cuts requires a concentration skill roll against DC 10 + cumulative damage in order to cast spells.
Focus: A knife or dagger.
Death Sense

With this spell the caster is able to sense the presence of any corpses within 40 feet. The corpse can be any creature type except a construct, and can include undead. It does not sense any cadavers that are more than 50% dismembered or destroyed.
The caster can also sense the presence of lingering spirits of recently slain beings. This sense will penetrate any solid surfaces that can be passed through by ghosts, and will sense spirits in the astral and ethereal planes. The spell will not reveal the exact location of the spirits, only a vague direction.

20 Delayed Glamer

This spell will act like a magical scribe, allowing the caster to observe a sequence of sights and sounds, then play them back when a particular trigger event occurs. This spell could be used, for example, to allow the caster to appear to be doing one thing while he is actually doing another. It could also be used to leave an illusionary message for some individual or a member of a group.
While casting the spell, the caster specifies a specific condition that will trigger the spell. This trigger operates in a manner identical to the magic mouth spell. The caster then focuses on a set of visual and auditory images within a 20-ft. cube. Only these images are recorded by the spell and only one round per level of information can be retained.
When the spell is finally triggered, the auditory and visual illusion will occur in the same location where it was recorded, and only those images included by the caster will be retained. The image can not be modified in any manner, although illusions recorded at the time of the spell casting will be retained.
Material Component: A piece of malleable clay.
Divine Challenge

Upon completing this spell the caster can attempt to mentally challenge any spell or magical effect which is physically restraining or hindering him from actions. This includes magic that impedes movement, such as entangle, solid fog, web or slow spells. It also includes magical paralysis and any hold spells.
At the start of each round this spell is in effect the caster can attempt a Willpower saving throw. If this roll succeeds then he is temporarily free from the effect of all such hindering spells for the current round only. Once the round has expired then all magic that was in effect and has not yet expired is fully restored. However if the caster moves out of the spell area during the round then he is free from the restraining magic.
Double Vision

Upon completing this spell the caster can target a number of creatures within range. If a targeted creature fails a Willpower saving throw, its vision becomes effected so that it views two images of everything.
This double vision will cause imbalance and uncertainly, reducing movement by a third and penalizing attack rolls by -1. The difficulty in targeting an opponent also means that the range multiple for all ranged attacks is increased by one.
21 The DC rating for any task involving the Balance, Open Lock, Pick Pocket, Search, and Tumble skills is increased by +5. Reading is also more difficult, requiring twice the normal amount of time.
This spell will effect creatures with a single eye or more than two eyes, but it has no effect on targets that do not rely on sight.

Drown

When this spell is cast, a large bubble of water flies from the hand of the caster to completely envelop the respiratory system of the target. The water forms a compact bubble around the appropriate location on the target, in most cases the head. The spell automatically fails against targets that do not breathe or have no physical presence on the current plane.
If the target normally breathes water, then this spell allows him to survive in the open air for the duration of the spell. The magic that holds the water in place will constantly aerate the fluid, allowing the being to breathe even under conditions of heavy exertion. However, any toxic gases in the air will also effect the water-breathing creature.
An air-breathing target of this spell must hold his breath or begin to drown. (See the drowning rule in the dungeon master's guide.) The water bubble will persist despite efforts to wipe it away, being magically drawn back toward the face or other respiratory organ. However, strenuous efforts to get rid of the water will shake enough away to draw a single breath of air. In fact it will be obvious to any being that makes a successful Intelligence check against DC 5 that the water can be temporarily displaced by movement. Vigorous shaking of the head will also allow a Reflex saving throw to permanently disperse the water bubble. The effort can be repeated once a round, but no other actions can be taken by the target while doing so.
There are several other measures that the victim can use to survive the drown spell. A straw or other tube passed through the water bubble will allow the target to breathe normally. At least 10 square feet of water absorbent material, such as cloth, will suffice to draw away sufficient water to allow normal breathing. An intense source of heat could also be used to vaporize the water, although this will likely inflict burn damage to the victim. The water can also be magically frozen and then chipped away from the face.
The bubble of water will serve to hinder the senses of the effected character to some degree. Ripples in the water surface will make seeing more difficult, resulting in a -1 penalty to melee attacks and a -2 penalty for ranged attacks. The Listen, Spot, and Search skills are also penalized by -10.
Material Component: A small hollow glass sphere or a piece of soap.
Ecstasy

This spell will place the target in a state of pleasure so utterly intense that they are incapable of sensible action or thought. The target will collapse to the ground completely enraptured and effectively helpless. This state will continue for one round per level of the caster.
22 While enraptured the target is completely immune to any pain. Once the sensation of ecstasy has ended, the target will be dazed for the next 1d4+1 rounds and he can perform no action besides fending off attacks.
Creatures who fail their saving throw against this spell will have a lower resistance to ecstasy in the future. They suffer a -1 penalty to their saving throw whenever they attempt to resist this spell. The ecstasy spell has no effect on plants, undead, and any creatures incapable of feeling pleasure.
Enhanced Mirror Image

This spell causes four illusory duplicates to appear around you. These images duplicate your appearance and actions exactly, down to your sounds, odors, and thermal appearance. As with the mirror image spell, these images shift position at the end of each round making it difficult for a foe to know which to attack. If an image is struck it immediately vanishes. However, these vanished images regenerate at the rate of one new image per round for the duration of the spell. At the end of the spell duration, all surviving images wink out.
Focus: A small glass cube with half silvered faces. The cube is suspended from a corner by a fine chain.
Upon casting this spell, a sphere of highly compressed air flies from the fingertips of the caster to the target. The air explodes in a powerful blast of winds that will instantly snuff any small flames within a 30-ft. radius. A 20-ft. radius opening will instantly appear in any cloud of mist or gas.
Anybody standing within 5 ft. of the center of the explosion will suffer 2d6hp + 1hp/level of subdual damage. This damage is reduced by 2hp for every 5 ft. from the center of the blast. Those who make their Reflex saving throw are able to avoid some of the impact and thus only suffer half damage as a result. Those that fail their roll will be knocked off their feet and stunned for a full round.
Material Component: A small, airtight bladder, which is inflated prior to casting the spell.
When this spell is cast, all normal fires within the area are completely extinguished and can not be re-ignited. Magical flames are effected each round as if by a dispel magic spell. Beings from the elemental plane of fire suffer 2d4hp of snuffing damage per round while inside the spell area, but a Fortitude saving throw will reduce this by half.
23 This spell has no effect on the temperature of materials within the area. Once the spell has expired previously burning materials can be ignited again.
Arcane Material Component: The breath of the caster exhaled into a small flask, which is then smashed as the spell is cast.
Eye Wall

This spell will create a dark, chitinous wall that is covered on both sides with hundreds of eyes. These eyes shift and look in every direction, observing all that is occurring in the vicinity. The wall has a thickness of 1 in./level, a break DC of 25, and a hardness of 7. It has 10hp per level of the caster.
The wall constantly secretes slimy mucus that drains down the wall, giving the surface a slick, moist appearance. This slime gives the wall a climb DC of 25. It is also very unpleasant to taste, but not harmful.
While the wall remains in place the caster can concentrate to view both sides of the wall from the perspective of the many eyes. The eyes provide both normal sight and 10-ft. darkvision to the caster. This ability will function regardless of the distance from the wall. However the wall is instantly negated if the caster journeys to another plane.
If a sight-effecting spell such as blindness is cast on the wall while the caster is concentrating on the eyes, he can be effected by the spell. Gaze attacks directed against the wall will also effect the caster in this manner.
Material Components: An intact eye of any animal, a live beetle, and some snail or slug slime in which the caster's finger is wiped.
False Glamer

This simple illusion will cause a solid object or creature to flicker and blur faintly, as if it were a flawed image. Failed attempts to disbelieve the illusion will appear to succeed, giving the object or creature the false appearance of a translucent outline.

24 Far Sight

This spell bends and warps the light entering the eyes of the caster so that he can see great distances with considerable clarity. His sight is magnified by a factor of one + caster's level. Thus at the highest magnification allowed at second level everything appears to be at one-third its actual distance.
The caster can vary the magnification at will, ranging from 2x to the maximum allowed. Due to the distortion of his sight, however, he is effectively dazzled while the spell is active, regardless of the magnification. The spell does not enhance the accuracy of ranged attacks, although it will allow the caster to see a distant target with greater clarity and to place a spell area more effectively.
Fasting

Upon touching the target, this spell will inflict a continual state of fasting. The victim must make a Willpower saving throw or be incapable of taking nourishment from any food he eats. Even the tastiest meal will seem very bland and the target is unable to enjoy any food he is given.
The target will slowly begin to grow weak and unhealthy from lack of nutrition. He or she will suffer the full mental and physical effects of starvation. However once the spell expires the victim can begin to slowly recuperate through rest and the consumption of food.
Focus: An empty bowl.
Flying Formation

This spell enables you or a creature you select to lead a small group of beings in flight. For each level of experience the caster can designate one additional medium size or smaller creature within range to accompany the flight leader.
Larger creatures can also be effected, but only one large creature per two levels, one huge creature per four levels, or one gargantuan creature per eight levels of the caster can be designated. (Creatures can change size after the spell is cast without adjusting the number effected.) These creatures can carry weight up to what they would consider a heavy load and still retain the ability to fly.
All designated creatures that are flying in formation under the command of the flight leader are able to fly with a speed of 120 feet. (90 feet if the flight leader is wearing medium or heavy armor.) They can climb at half this rate or descend at double
25 the speed. The maneuver rating of the group is poor. The leader can determine the formation that is assumed by the flying creatures at will, and the beings will then automatically shift to the corresponding position regardless of how the group maneuvers.
At any time the designated beings, other than the flight leader, can exert their will and fly independently. However they are only able to fly with a speed of 90 feet at a maneuverability of good. (60 feet if the being is wearing medium or heavy armor.) Should they move beyond the maximum spell range, however, then they are no longer able to fly. Instead they are effected by a continual feather fall spell until they set down.
If the caster initially designates fewer creatures to accompany the group then the formation can fly at a faster rate. If the number of creatures selected only require up to half the caster's total levels, then the group can fly with a speed of 180 feet and have a maneuver rating of average. (120 feet if the flight leader is wearing medium or heavy armor.) Should only one other creature besides the flight leader be effected by this spell, then they can fly with a speed of 240 feet and a maneuver rating of good. (180 feet if the flight leader is wearing medium or heavy armor.)
Once the spell duration expires, all creatures in the group are effected by a feather fall spell until they set down. Unlike the restrictions on that spell, however, there is no weight limit on this effect. Thus a creature can weight more than 300 lbs./level of the caster and still be effected by the feather fall.

Garden Path

Upon casting this spell, each step the caster takes will cause a bounty of wildflowers to gently grow out of the earth around his feet. These flowers will emit an intoxicating aroma that will compel all that can smell them to follow the path.
Creatures that move within 5 ft. of the path must make a Will saving throw against DC 15 or be compelled to follow the trail at their normal movement rate. However they can take any other actions allowed during movement and will not advance onto obviously hazardous ground.
Those who successfully make their saving throw are unaffected by this compulsion, although they will still sense the need to follow the trail of flowers.
If a creature follows the path for a full round, it must make a Fortitude saving throw against DC 10 or enter a deep trance and follow the flowers as if it was sleep walking. These beings are completely defenseless and can take no action other than to advance along the path.
This spell has no effect on undead, plants, fungi, or creatures without a sense of smell. It also has no effect on creatures that do not need to sleep, such as Elves. Any being struck for damage will automatically break free from the effects of the spell.
The trial will cease once the caster steps on ground where no plants can grow. This includes bare rock, ice, snow, and sandy desert. After the spell expires the plants will revert to harmless wildflowers and will flourish or wilt over time according to the local conditions.
Divine Material Component: A handful of wild flower seeds.
26 Gas Barrier

This spell creates a sparkling, transparent barrier that will block the passage of all types of gas and vapors in both directions. However, denser objects, including fluids and dust, can freely cross, as can containers and non-gaseous beings. Gaseous creatures can seep through the barrier, but it requires a full round for them to do so and they are effectively helpless while doing so.
This spell is useful, for example, to seal a passage from a harmful gas, or to prevent air from leaking off into a vacuum. To be completely effective, however, the spell should be cast in a location where it can form an airtight seal on all sides. The spell will block the flow of a cloudkill or fog cloud spell, but will not seal out a smoke cloud from a pyrotechnics spell.
In the location where this spell is completed, the air around the caster begins to change form and distort visibility, making the area appear glassy. This distortion increases the difficulty of making ranged attacks at targets inside or beyond the region of the glass air.
When calculating the range to a target for the purpose of aiming, the glass air effectively doubles the distance within its boundary. Thus, if the range to a target is 50 ft., and 30 ft. is within the glass air, then the effective range is 80 ft. for the purpose of aiming. For ranged weapons this may change the range multiple, or even put the target out of reach.
Arcane Material Component: A small, hollow glass or crystal sphere filled with clear oil.
Gnawing Pain

Upon casting this spell, any creatures within the spell area must make a Willpower saving throw or suffer a gnawing pain that slowly spreads throughout their body.
During the first round the victims will feel a dull pain that causes a cold sweat. Casting any spells during this round requires a concentration skill roll. On the second round this pain becomes a sharp agony and the target is effectively shaken. By the third round the searing pain has reached its maximum intensity and the victim is nauseated. Each round thereafter the victims must make a Fortitude saving throw or become wracked with convulsions. They are now completely incapacitated and helpless to defend themselves.
27 The effects of this spell linger in the mind of the victims even after the duration has expired. The targets will feel unnerved for 1d6+1 hours, resulting in a -1 penalty to any Willpower rolls. They will suffer disturbing nightmares during the following 1d4 weeks, making sleeping difficult and reducing the rate of natural healing by one half.
Material Component: A branch of nettles with which the caster swats his bared arms or legs.
Graft Flesh

The caster can use this spell to extract an area of flesh and tissue from the donor being and attach it to the recipient. In order for this transfer to be successful, both the donor and recipient must fail a Fortitude saving throw.
The transferred flesh can be used, for example, to heal a deep gash or a burn scar. Naturally, the subject providing this patch will also suffer an equally deep wound when its flesh is removed, so this spell is primarily used for healing an ally at the expense of a foe. Up to 1d8hp + 1hp per level can be transferred from one creature to another in this manner, although the repair can never exceed the maximum hit point total of the recipient.
This spell can also be used to graft the limb from one creature onto another. This limb can be from any living organism that is the same size as the recipient creature. Thus the limb of a giant squid could not be grafted onto a squirrel, but it could be attached to a great white shark. The recipient of the graft will still require some time to learn how to use the new limb.
Finally the caster can transfer a live sensory organ to the target creature. The subject must already possess the sense in order to use the new organ. This ability is usually used to restore a lost eye.
Focus: A healer's kit and a chiurgeon's knife.
Guiding View

This spell provides the target with an unobstructed overhead view from a great height of the land within a day's travel. He can use this view to find a suitable place to hide; see an escape route; locate large buildings or landmarks; or determine the best places to hunt or forage, etc. While the spell is active the target has his normal sight completely obscured by the magical view. This spell will only function outdoors with the sky visible. Low clouds or fog can obstruct some or all of the view.
Material Component: Feather of an eagle.
28 Harden Rock

When this spell is cast upon a surface of stone, it makes the material as tough as the finest steel. Mud will harden into rock, and sand will solidify into a block. This is useful, for example, to harden the walls of a fortress against bombardment.
Effected surfaces receive a +4 bonus to their hardness rating and have their break DC tripled. Stone-based monsters within the area, such as a stone golem, have their natural armor improved by +6.

Hasten Rot

This spell will create a yellow-green ray that accelerates the rotting of dead flesh or organic matter. Tiny scavenger organisms in the target area have their life force greatly sped up. As a result, any dead matter within the beam will rapidly decay into fine dust unless a saving throw is made.
This spell will operate on any dead animal or plant matter, including wood, bone, or leather. However it will not further decay already rotted matter such as dirt. The spell has absolutely no effect on living matter, including freshly cut wood and seriously ill but still living creatures. It will also fail to operate in a sterile environment, such as a pure vacuum.
If an undead entity with a corporeal body is the spell target, it must make a saving throw versus spells or suffer 2d6 hit points of damage plus 1 point per level of the caster. If the saving throw is successful, then the damage is halved.
Material Component: A handful of mulch.
Haunted Woods

This dark ritual turns an area of normal woods into a haunted forest. The trees bend and twist into gnarled, sinister forms, and the area radiates a constant, sickening aura of fear. Treants and other animated trees avoid this fate if they make a successful Fortitude saving throw.
29 Upon casting this spell the caster must make a Fortitude saving throw or be permanently transformed into a twisted black tree covered in sharp barbs. The only means to reverse the transformation is to obtain the forgiveness of a wood nymph, an unlikely occurrence.
Only a short time after the spell is cast, many of the forest animals will have fled, save for the most feisty creatures, such as boars and wolves. Every time a living being not of evil alignment enters these woods they must make a Willpower saving throw or be panicked. They remain in this state until they leave the woods, plus 1d6 rounds.
Material Component: A nut from a deciduous tree that was struck by lightning.
Healing Fangs

Upon casting this spell upon a poisonous serpent, the toxic bite of the creature is turned into a beneficial potion that restores life rather than taking it away. The bite of this snake heals 1d6hp initially and 2d6hp + 1hp/level on the following round. Once the snake has injected the healing potion, its poisonous bite ability is fully restored.
Hemorrhage

Upon completing this spell, the caster can target a single creature within range and inflict bleeding wounds deep inside the body. These wounds continue to bleed unchecked for the duration of the spell, and may ultimately render the victim unconscious or worse.
On the initial round the victim will suffer 2d4hp of damage from internal wounds. This wound is accompanied by a sharp jolt of pain and continuous internal bleeding. While the spell remains in effect the target suffers an additional 1d4hp of damage each round he performs any strenuous activity. A successful Fortitude saving throw will half all damage from this spell.
The nature of wound inflicted by this spell prohibits the bleeding from being staunched by means of the Heal skill. However, a spell or magic item healing the initial 2d4hp of damage will fully negate the hemorrhage and no further damage will be inflicted.
This spell has no effect on creatures that lack an internal structure, such as undead or slimes.
Material Component: A sharp blade that is used to make an incision in the palm of the caster. This small wound will close when the spell is cast.
30 Hone Illusion

As this spell is being cast, the wizard spends several minutes of intense concentration, carefully regarding the details of an existing illusion. When the spell is complete the wizard will greatly improve the realism and level of detail of the target illusion. The chance to disbelieve the modified illusion is reduced by -1 for every four levels of experience of the caster. This spell remains in effect for the duration of the modified illusion.
The hone illusion spell can only be cast upon an illusion spell that the caster has previously learned how to cast. If cast upon an illusion created by another, a modification is required to determine if the illusion is altered. A modify check is 1d20 +1 per caster level (maximum +10) against a DC of 6 + the illusion caster's level.
Focus: A finely polished glass lens. Such a lens is quite rare and requires the work of a highly skilled artisan. Typically such a lens will cost at least 100gp to acquire, if it is even available.
Hooves of Thunder

This spell magically enchants the iron shoes of the designated mounts, allowing the animals to gallop much faster than would normally be possible and leap across large gaps. The mounts can gallop at twice their normal rate, and provides them with the equivalent of the jump spell. While the horses are galloping, their shoes flash sparks and makes noises like thunder whenever they strike the ground.
At the expiration of the spell, the mounts will be exhausted for one full minute for every ten minutes they have been galloping. This spell has no effect on mounts that do not have shoes.
Material Component: A lava projectile thrown from a volcano.
Horseless Carriage

The spell will only lift the harness and pull the vehicle forward or backward - any steering must be provided by mechanical means.
Material Component: Hairs from a horse's tail.
31 Hot Feet

After this spell is cast the feet of the target begin to grow searing hot. The victim must hop quickly from foot to foot, or suffer painful burns that make normal movement exceedingly difficult. While hopping, any bonuses due to dexterity are halved and his attacks suffer a -1 penalty to hit. Failure to hop will inflict 1d3hp of damage per round.
This spell has no effect on creatures that have no feet, or normally move by flying or swimming. Undead, automatons, and other creatures that feel no pain are also unaffected by this spell. This spell has no effect when the feet of the target are underwater.
Material Component: An iron nail held over a small flame.
House Spirit

With this spell the caster can upon the spirit of a dwelling to actively protect the structure from intruders. This spell can only be cast upon a home that has been inhabited by the same family for the past year. This spirit will not attack the residents of the house, or the caster and his friends. The spirit is unable to move or attack beyond the confines of the residence.

The house spirit has one hit dice, plus an additional hit dice for each decade the house has been continuously occupied. It is invisible to anybody except the caster and those able to see spirits. The spirit can attack by magically hurling objects lying within the home. It can also pass through the interior walls of the house at will.
Once a house spirit has been destroyed a new one will not appear until a family has occupied the house continuously for another year.
With this spell the caster allows one or more creatures to be able to glide effortlessly across any frozen surface, leaving almost no tracks in their passing. Attempts to track the targets across snow or ice are made as if the surface were firm instead of soft. The targets can travel at their normal movement rate. However, maneuvers on a frozen surface are made as a flying creature with average maneuverability.
Immunity to Sunlight

With this spell, the caster bestows a temporary immunity to the effects of sunlight. The target is surrounded by a flickering silvery darkness for the duration of the spell. Creatures that are normally susceptible to sunlight are rendered immune to the harmful effects of daylight while this spell is in effect. This spell also protects against certain spells that inflict harmful effects using sunlight, including the sunbeam and sunburst spells.
Material Component: A piece of glass blackened by soot.
Impregnable Wall

This spell will make a section of masonry wall or any other constructed stone barrier virtually impenetrable by means of magic. The stone portion of the effected wall will be completely immune to any stone-effecting magic, including earthquake, passwall, stone to flesh, stone shape, or transmute rock to mud.
While impregnable castle remains in effect, spells such as move earth can not undermine the wall as long as at least half the effected structure is still supported. Creatures are unable to penetrate the stone in the spell area. However, the wall can still be magically passed through by means of spells such as dimension door, teleport, or wraithform.
The target of this spell contracts a supernatural disease that requires several days to manifest symptoms. It has a DC 10 + caster's level to prevent infection, and an onset time of 1d6 days. The disease spreads by contact and is contagious one full day following infection. It will cause 1d3 points of damage per day to any one characteristic chosen at the time the spell is cast.
This disease is resistant to all spells, including remove disease. The Spell Resistance rating of the disease is 5 + caster's level. For a remove disease to cure the target, it must first overcome this spell resistance. Should the spell attempt fail, then only a higher level caster can remove the disease.
This spell is considered so heinous that it has been locked in a heavily warded vault by the mage guild. As it is so rare, spellcraft skill checks to recognize the spell will be made against DC 25. The diseases inflicted by this spell are extra-planar in origin, and may be successfully recognized by a knowledge (The Planes) skill check against DC 15.
Upon completing this spell, the caster must make a Fortitude saving throw or be fatigued. When this spell is cast, the target is charged with magical potential. The next spell that is cast by the target will be at one experience level higher. Further, if the spell uses the total of one or more dice rolls to determine its effectiveness, each of the individual dice rolls are improved by +1. However, the sum of the modified dice can not exceed the maximum total allowed by the spell. Thus a cure serious wounds spell will add +1 to each of its 1d8 dice rolls, but the total can not exceed the maximum healing allowed.
Intercept Message

While active this spell allows the caster to intercept any magically delivered messages within range. This includes messages sent by the message, whispering wind, magic mouth, dream, and sending spells. It does not include divine spells that allow communication with a higher power.
To catch a message, the caster must make a successful intercept roll against the spell. An intercept roll is 1d20 + casters level against a DC 8 + message caster's level. Any messages sent while the caster is not concentrating on this spell will be missed.
34 This spell will intercept either the transmission or the reception of the message, but not the intermediate delivery. It will not intercept messages that are delivered by a living being, such as the creature used by the messenger spell. The spell will also fail to intercept messages that are delivered in person but require magical translation.
Material Component: Silver hearing horn that must be held to the ear in order to listen to messages.
With this spell the caster can join two pieces of rope or cord together with a long, slender magical force. This magical force will behave exactly like a normal length of the same rope, and it can support the same weight as the weaker of the two pieces. The rope can be wielded normally using the Use Rope skill, and can be animated with the Animate Rope spell.
The magical rope is normally invisible. However whenever the rope is touched by a living being it will appear as a shimmering length for up to 3 ft. in each direction, making it possible to locate the rope while climbing.
Focus: Two lengths of rope, each at least a half foot long.
Kiln Croft

This spell will allow the target to precisely judge the temperature of a kiln or oven, allowing him to carefully manage any objects placed within to bake or melt. This spell is especially useful when the target is a skilled craftsman performing such precise tasks such as forging an alloy or baking fine pottery. While this spell is in effect the target gains a +2 circumstance bonus to his armorer, blacksmithing, cooking, pottery, and weaponsmithing skills. This spell also provides a limited form of dark vision, allowing differences in heat to be sensed out to a distance of 10 ft.
While this spell is active, the caster gains information about the composition of the surrounding air, including the presence of unusual or poisonous gases, the amount of humidity, concentration of dust and pollen, and so forth. This ability gives a +2 circumstance bonus to any Search or Spot checks to detect any breathing creatures hiding nearby.
When cast underwater this spell will detect unusual chemicals or particles suspended in the fluid.
35 Light and Night

When this spell is cast the effected area will be filled with a boiling cloud of brilliant bursts of white light and pitch-black explosions of darkness. The constant bursts of light and darkness make attacking into the cloud exceedingly difficult, and creatures that rely on their vision will suffer a -2 penalty to their attacks.
If movement is attempted within the cloud, a Reflex saving throw is required to avoid becoming disoriented and being unable to determine the current direction of travel. Most likely the victim will wander randomly within the cloud. Visibility within the cloud is limited to a maximum of 5 ft.
The flashing lights will dazzle the eyes, and anybody within 40 ft. who gazes into the cloud will be dazzled for a full round. Since the cloud is constantly being reinvigorated, it can not be negated by spells of light or darkness.
Material Component: A mixture of magnesium and coal dust burned in a flame.
Living Shield

Upon completing this spell, the outer flesh of the caster begins to thicken and grow a hard, segmented shell. This chitinous outer mass will protect the caster from most attacks, providing +6 armor bonus.
The outer shell is very bulky and makes maneuvering more difficult. This armor will cause the same hindrances as wearing chainmail armor. Thus the maximum Dex bonus is +2 and the Armor Check Penalty is -5. The shell will also make it difficult to wear certain fitted articles of clothing, such as boots or gloves. Any armor worn over this shell must be specially designed to fit the character, and once this spell expires the modified armor will be much too large to wear.
Material Component: A live insect is required to cast this spell, and its exoskeleton will serve as a model for the shell.
Living Wall

Tiny spores of plant matter at the target location are mutated by this spell, forming a solid wall of tough living matter. The wall must be located directly on a surface of uncovered earth, and must be wider than it is tall. It can, however, be formed in any shape along its length and can include small openings.
36 If the wall is attacked steadily, it can be beaten down by a determined foe. Each 5-foot square of the wall has hit points equal to the casters level. However the wall is tough enough that the first 5 points of any blow are ignored. When the hits points for a 5-foot section of wall drops to zero, it is breached at that location. If a creature attempts to break through the wall with a single attack, the DC for the strength check is 18 + casters level.
This fibrous barrier can be maintained almost indefinitely, as long as proper care is taken. The wall usually requires natural daylight for at least four hours per day, and the normal amount of water for this climate. When dry the wall is combustible, burning at the rate of 1hp of damage per round.
Material Component: A handful of dirt.
Lyshaux's Regeneration

This specialized spell creates a very compelling illusion of invulnerability to attack. Any wounds suffered by the caster appear to rapidly close and only brief grimaces of pain are visible to any foes. The caster gives the appearance of near invincibility to damage, resulting in a daunting image for any intelligent foe. The primary spell intent is to cause a foe to give up the fight as hopeless.
This illusion uses integrated visual, auditory, olfactory, and thermal effects to subtly alter the appearance of any wounds. It will also hide the effects of disease, poisons, or any previous injuries the caster may have suffered, and he will seem to be in perfect health. No concentration is required by the caster to maintain this illusion.
This spell will blend perfectly with any illusionary image that the caster is employing to alter his appearance. However the spell will not hide a trail of blood on the ground. Once the caster is slain or rendered unconscious the illusionary mask drops away.
Material Components: Pieces of chalk, charcoal, and other colored materials that must be used to mark the face while the spell is being cast.
Make Tracks

By means of this spell the caster is able to create natural animal tracks in an attempt to deceive anybody attempting to track his party. There are two forms of this spell, one of which must be selected at the time the spell is cast.
The first form will allow up to one being per level of the caster within 15 ft. to be effected. These beings will then leave the tracks of the single type of animal wherever they walk, regardless of their actual size or footprint. Thus the caster can cause all eligible beings to leave the hoof prints of a horse wherever they step.
On a Wilderness Lore skill check against DC 15, a skilled tracker will be able to determine that the tracks appear suspect. (Perhaps due to the unnatural length of the stride or the lack of any scat.) But in all other respects the prints will appear to be those of the animal selected.
The second form of this spell will cause a set of tracks from a single type of animal to start appearing in the direction selected. It requires a Wilderness Lore tracking check against DC 25 to determine that these prints are false.
37 These tracks will continue to appear at the normal walking pace of the caster without further guidance as long as there is solid ground in front of the path. An obstacle will stop the walking tracks if it is more than one foot in height, or it will be blocked by a similar hole in the ground. A body of water will also stop these tracks.
In either form the caster can only create the tracks from a single type of animal for each casting of this spell. In addition, the caster must have previously had an opportunity to closely examine the tracks made by the selected animal.
Magic Resiliency

This spell will protect magical effects, making them more resilient against psionic suppression or a dispel magic spell. Whenever an attempt is made to weaken or eliminate magic within the spell area, half the level of the magic resiliency spell caster is added to the effective level of the magic. Thus if an arcane spell is cast at 4th level within the spell area, and the magic resiliency is cast at 5th level, then the arcane spell is treated as if it had been cast by a 6th level caster for the purpose of suppress or dispel.
The magic resiliency spell is completely immune to any attempts to suppress or dispel. It can only be dispelled by a wish or limited wish spell.
Magical Proximity

This spell will cause the caster to feel a tingling sensation when a sufficiently strong magical aura is detected within a 15-ft. radius. The alarm will be sent to the caster regardless of his location, even if it is on another plane.
At the time the spell is cast the caster must specify a particular minimum spell level that will be detected. Whenever a magical aura of sufficient level enters or is created within the 15-ft. radius the alarm is activated and this spell immediately expires. Note that this spell will never activate itself, so that if another magical proximity is cast within the 15-ft. radius the alarm will not be activated.
This spell will cause the target creatures to emit a constant foul odor of decay. Almost all meat eaters will instinctively avoid creatures that emit this scent, especially if they are lying still. However, scavengers will be intensely attracted to the odor and
38 are 20% more likely to investigate. Save for necromancers and those who deal with corpses, this odor will cause a -4 penalty to all Charisma checks.
Immersion in water or a heavy rain shower will only temporarily clear the odor from this spell for 1d4 minutes. Large quantities of perfume will suffice to completely mask the odor, and burning incense can also be used for the same effect.
Arcane Material Component: A small piece of rotting flesh.
Upon casting this spell the target is able to wield his weapon(s) in a whirling blur of motion that will give pause to even the most stalwart foe. Each round the target can make a dancing performance skill check against a Reflex check by a single opponent. If the check is successful the spell target receives a +2 circumstance bonus to his melee attacks against that foe.
The spell target can instead perform a whirling dance attack in an attempt to cow an opponent. A dancing performance skill check is made against a Willpower check by a single opponent. If the check is successful the foe is shaken this round. If the target makes his saving throw, however, he will be unaffected by any further whirling dance attacks.
When the spell duration has expired, the target is fatigued for 1d4 rounds.
Mask Potion

This spell can be cast upon a quantity of pure liquid in an attempt to magically alter the sense of taste and smell of the first being to taste it. This change can make the liquid seem like anything previously smelled and tasted by the caster, including potions. It will even produce brief sensory symptoms associated with a particular magical potion.
Up to one pint per level of the caster can be effected by this spell. If the caster attempts to cast this spell upon a larger quantity then the effect is diluted and the spell expires after a minute.
Anyone tasting the liquid for the first time must make a saving throw versus spells or be completely fooled about the contents of this vessel or any other with an identical liquid. This false sense of taste and odor lasts for the duration of the spell. All others who drink the liquid are completely unaffected.
Arcane Material Focus: A packet of rare spices worth 10gp.
39 Masks

This spell will allow the caster to assume a sequence of illusionary disguises, with each functioning identically in all respects to a form that can be created with the change self spell. This spell always allows one disguise to be created. An additional disguise can be added for every four levels of experience of the caster.
The disguises are layered on top of each other upon the caster and always appear in the same sequence to any disbelieving observers. If a disguise is successfully disbelieved then the next illusion in the sequence will manifest itself to that observer. Only if all disguises are successfully penetrated is the underlying appearance of the caster visible.
At any time the caster can strip away the current overlaying illusion and so change his appearance to the next underlying disguise. However, doing so in the presence of any witnesses will make it immediately obvious that he was wearing an illusionary guise. Once removed the overlaying disguise can not be recovered until this spell is cast again.
Note that this spell can not be layered on top of other illusionary disguises, including another masks spell.
Arcane Material Component: An onion that must be peeled while casting the spell.
Mental Painting

With this spell the caster can craft a highly detailed mental scene in his or her mind, complete with realistic sensory details. The scene can either be completely static, or repeat itself endlessly within the span of a single round. The quality and compelling nature of the scene is entirely determined by a Craft (Painting) skill roll made by the caster.
The scene can use any sense the caster can employ, and can include a brief message of up to 12 words. It can incorporate a scene that is viewed by the caster at the time the spell is cast, but will only include those details that are observed by the priest.
The caster can choose either to retain this spell in his or her memory for instant recall at any time he chooses, or to pass it on to another individual who has just cast this spell through physical contact and an act of will. This target in turn can recall and examine the image at any time.
The scene will remain in memory for as long as the person wills it, and requires a conscious act of will to purge. The only other way the scene can be removed is through dispel magic, a limited wish, or any spell or power that can modify memories.
Arcane Focus: A paint brush.
40 Mental Razor

This powerful spell will allow the caster to perform a type of chiurgy on the subject with the intent of improving its mental capacity. This chiurgy is quite risky for the target, however, and may not have the desired effect. Indeed it could leave the subject much reduced in mental capacity or possibly even traumatized or completely incapacitated. The target must have a minimum intelligence of 11 or more for this spell to be successfully cast.

Minute Vision

This spell will focus and narrow the vision of the caster to such an extent that he can readily view organisms that are much too small to see with normal sight. Once so focused, the caster can use his magical abilities to modify the form of any microbes he can view. While useful for experimenting on benign organisms, however, the caster will need to take care that he does not produce a toxic life form. The maximum magnification allowed is 2x per caster's level.

Mirror Sphere

Upon completing this spell, the caster is wrapped in a polished mirror globe that block all sight into the interior. Those within the sphere can see clearly through the barrier, but the light is somewhat dimmed. The sphere provides a +2 bonus to any saving throws against both gaze attacks and any light-based magic coming from the exterior, including color spray, flare, prismatic spray, and sunray spells.
Material Component: Jeweler's rouge rubbed on the fingertips.
Misleading Missiles

On the round this spell is completed, the caster and his possessions become completely invisible to sight for one target creature per level. The targets must be selected at the time this spell is cast. This form of invisibility functions like the improved invisibility spell with respect to the target creatures.
Each round thereafter the caster can launch a glowing spark of electricity that will unerringly strike a creature selected from among the targets. The spark can be made to launch from any location within the spell range, giving the impression that the caster is now standing at that location. Each such spark does 1d6hp + 1hp per caster level, but a successful Reflex saving throw will half the damage.
When used with cunning, this spell can cause an opponent to waste valuable energy launching useless attacks at empty air, while continually inflicting damage with small but steady jabs.
Material Component: A copper mirror.
Moon's Heart

This spell has several beneficial effects for the caster. First, it allows the caster to know the direction and current phase of the moon. With this information the caster can orient himself and determine the approximate date and time. In addition, the caster can see in any level of moonlight as if he had the low-light vision of an elf.
42 This spell can only be used on the astral or prime material plane on a world with a moon. It will fail to function during the three days of the new moon.
Noticed

This spell causes the target to be the object of everybodys attention, whether wanted or not. The target is immediately noticed wherever he goes and everybody will remember his appearance and actions in great detail. Any spot skill attempts against the target will receive a +4 bonus. If the character is working to be the center of attention, however, then the only effect of this spell is to make the performance much more memorable. A failed performance will leave a bad impression, increasing the DC by 5 for future performances to the same audience.
This spell will allow the caster to completely numb the flesh of the target. This numbness will mask any pain, but will also neutralize the sense of touch. This will result in a -2 penalty to any attacks or dexterity-based skills. Reflex saving throws are also penalized by -1.
Material Component: A vial of rubbing alcohol.
Numbing Darkness

This subtle, but effective spell creates a thick, inky cloud that is so utterly dark and disturbing that it saps the will to move. The cloud is 30 ft. in diameter and is utterly impenetrable to all forms of sight. In this regard the darkness is much like that created formed the sphere of darkness spell.
The pattern of disturbing darkness created by this spell can leave weak-willed creatures unable to summon the desire to escape. Only the strong willed; creatures from the demi-plane of shadow; Undead or Constructs; or those who lack any
43 means of sight are able to flee from this trap while the spell remains active. This numbing darkness will penetrate even tightly closed eyes.
Any seeing creature that begins a round within the cloud must make a Will saving throw or be unable to find the will to do anything other than to stand in place and peer into the darkness. For each consecutive round a creature spends within the cloud, its saving throw is adjusted by a cumulative -1 penalty.
Physically the dark cloud behaves much like a fog cloud spell and can be moved or dispersed by sufficiently strong winds.
Material Component: A one-foot glass rod with a bulb at one end. The long end of the rod must be completely covered in soot from an oil lamp flame. Any bare spots must be touched up before it can be used to cast this spell.
Observe History

Upon casting this spell the caster has a chance to observe in great detail events from a time in the past. The scene is observed from the current point of view of the caster, so he is able to move about and watch events closely. The scene can be viewed with any two of the caster's unmodified senses, which must be selected at the time the spell is cast.
The scene from the past is observed at the normal rate of time passage, so the maximum length of time that can be observed is limited by the duration of the spell. However once per round the caster can choose to advance the time observed forward by any fraction of the remaining total.
While this spell is in effect, the two effected senses are completely disabled. Thus if the caster chooses to see and hear the events of the past, he will be completely blind and deaf for the duration of the spell.
To successfully observe the past, the caster must make an Observe History check. The Observe History check is 1d20 + caster level against a DC determined from the table below. If the roll fails, then this spell is immediately negated.

44 Obstruct Identification

Perhaps once crafted by an evil wizard for the purpose of concealing certain aspects of his magical constructs, this spell will inhibit the identification of selected features of an object. One such feature can be concealed for every three levels of the caster, but not all of these need be used on the object. If an item is effected by this spell, further such castings will have no effect until the original obstruct identification spell has expired.
Each feature obscured by this spell receives a +10 level adjustment for the purpose of identification. Thus if an analyze dweomer spell is cast upon an object, the caster must be at least equal to the spell's or power's caster level plus ten. Likewise an identify spell has only a 50% chance to reveal the basic function if it is concealed by this spell. Use of the Detect Magic spell to determine the schools of magic involved in the concealed magic require a Spellcraft check against DC 25, rather than DC 15.
Due to the manner in which this spell was constructed, it can readily be included when an enchanted item is built. However the cost of the magic item is increased by 200gp per aspect concealed by this dweomer.
Material Component: A vial of octopus or squid ink.
Odor Cleansing

This spell removes any odor from the body of the beings touched and makes them undetectable by a creature that has the scent feat. Since many animals hunt by scent, this spell will allow the targets to safely pass by the lair of many a wild beast.
Note that this spell will not prevent the targets from acquiring new odors by disturbing a suitable source as they pass. They may, for example, brush against some flowers and release a floral odor or they may step in a pile of horse dung.
The spell will remain in effect until it is washed off by immersion in water, or rainfall. Changing garb will only add the odors of the new clothing.
Arcane Material Component: A small piece of charcoal, which must be brushed all over the subject creature.
45 Ossifer's Spell Attractor

Upon casting this spell, an eerie blue glow surrounds the target creatures for the duration of the spell. These beings have their individual saving throws against all spells penalized by 1d8. Further, they also have their AC reduced by -4 for the purpose of targeting spells.
Up to 2 HD of creatures per level of the caster can be effected by this spell, but the lowest HD creatures in the spell area must be targeted first. Once the creatures are effected by this spell, they continue to be effected until the spell expires even if they move outside the initial spell area. Any creatures entering the spell area following the cast are unaffected by the spell.
Material Components: A piece of lodestone and some bread crumbs.
This spell will cause the target to become seemingly innocuous and readily ignored. He will become effectively invisible to all that look his way. Even those who accidentally bump into the target will merely mumble and move on.
Those who are specifically looking for the target must make a Willpower saving in order to spot the object of their interest. Vigilant guards can also make a Willpower saving throw to attempt to spot the target. Even then, however, any spot skill attempts against the spell target receive a -2 penalty.
The overlook spell is negated versus anybody that observes the target attacks a creature, including the subject of the attack. The spell is immediately negated if the target fails a pick pocket attempt. Note that this spell can not be negated with an invisibility purge, since it is not actually an invisibility spell.
This spell will provide a limited form of regeneration for the target, causing wounds to close and hastening the process of healing. Each time the target suffers a wound the healing effect of this spell is triggered. The regeneration will heal at a maximum rate of 1hp per round to the last wound that was suffered while this spell is active. It will continue for a number of rounds equal to either the damage from the wound or the level of the caster, whichever is lowest. If more damage is suffered
46 then the healing cycle is immediately reset and the regeneration is based on this new wound. Once the duration expires then all further healing from this spell ceases.
For example if the target suffers 9hp of damage, then the regeneration will begin at the rate of 1hp per round. This will continue for 1d6 round. Should the target suffer a 1hp wound two rounds later then the regeneration is immediately reset. The healing will last for another 1d6 rounds. Since the wound was only 1hp, however, the regeneration will only be active for one round. If another wound is suffered before the expiration of the spell, then the process will begin again.
If the target of this spell goes to negative hit points and receives at least one round of regeneration, then he is considered stabilized.
Pass Month

When this spell is cast, the caster and all his possessions are wrapped in a silvery light and instantly transported forward in time to the start of the next new moon. This moon can be any visible planetary body orbiting this world, but must be selected at the time the spell is cast. No time passes for the caster and he arrives in the same condition in which he departed. To anybody watching the caster it appears as if he vanished without a trace.
If a solid object weighing more than 50# occupies the location of the time traveling spell caster, he will be trapped on the astral plane and must remain there until he finds a means to escape.
Material Component: A handful of silver dust worth 20gp. This spell will only function in moonlight.
Peace Knot

To complete this spell the caster must be wielding a melee weapon in the normal manner. When the invocation is complete, the weapon is wrapped in a faintly shimmering field that cushions it against any impacts. This field will only allow the effected weapon to deal subdual damage, and any strength bonuses are halved. This field also negates damage the weapon would normally deliver due to magical energies.
A word and a touch from the caster can instantly undo the peace knot. Another being can also be empowered to negate this spell in this manner, but this individual must be present when the spell is first cast.
47 Peel Flesh

This dread spell allows the caster to peel the face and scalp from a fresh corpse, then attach the resulting mask tightly to his head. The resulting visage will give an effective Disguise skill rank bonus of +20 to match the face of the victim. The mask will have some minor imperfections that might make it possible to see through the disguise, but only after a close examination by a person familiar with the victim. This spell will not otherwise alter the physical appearance of the caster. Once this spell has ended, the flesh of the corpse will be ruined and a new dead body will be needed for another disguise.
Material Component: Face and scalp from a fresh corpse. The corpse must be less than one hour old, or have been preserved by a gentle repose spell.
Phobia

This spell will implant a powerful fear deep within the psyche of the victim, causing a state of intense dread whenever a specific set of circumstances occurs. The particular phobia is usually selected according to the taste of the caster and the personality of the victim. Thus, he may choose to give a warrior an intense fear of blood, while a bard may be cursed with stage fright. The object of the fear must be specified by a single word spoken at the time the spell is cast.
Whenever the circumstances occur, the victim must make a Willpower saving throw or be in a frightened condition for a full minute. He will flee as best he can, using whatever spells or special abilities are required for this purpose. If he is unable to flee, then he suffers a -2 morale penalty on attack rolls, weapon damage rolls, and saving throws.
If the saving throw is successful, the target is instead shaken for 1d4 rounds and the phobia spell is successfully negated. He can stand and fight, but suffers a -2 morale penalty on attack rolls, weapon damage rolls, and saving throws.
This spell will cause a specific item to become oddly enticing. If a would-be thief fails a Willpower saving throw, he will forego stealing any other items within 5 ft. in favor of the effected object. Typically this item will be a conveniently dangling purse filled with pebbles or some nasty surprise for the pickpocket.
Arcane Focus: A small silver charm.
48 Pool of Quicksand

When this spell is cast upon an area of dirt or sandy ground, the earth down to a depth of 5 ft. immediately softens and turns into a bog. Creatures within 5 ft. of the edge when the spell is cast can make a Reflex saving throw to step away from the softening ground.
Most creatures in the spell area will immediately sink toward the bottom. Small creatures can float on top of the bog, but will have great difficulty moving about without something to grasp. Creatures that possess magical flight can escape the pool. A Strength check against DC 15 is required to move 5 ft. through the bog.
This spell has no effect on any earth-based creatures. When the spell finally expires, the ground returns to its previous state and traps any creatures caught within.
Arcane Material Component: A lump of fine, moist sand.

When this spell is unleashed, a single target creature suffers repeated sharp nerve and muscle spasms around the head as if a forceful hand was battering it.
A target with less than 50 hit points remaining will be dazed and disrupted by the spasms and any opponents will receive the equivalent of 30% concealment. Spell casting requires a concentration skill check against DC 20 + spell level.
A target with at least 50 hit points remaining will less disrupted and any opponents will receive the equivalent of 20% concealment. Spell casting requires a concentration skill check against DC 10 + spell level.
No physical damage is suffered from this spell. Creatures that lack a central nervous system are unaffected by this spell, including undead, constructs, elementals, plants, and oozes. Gaseous, ethereal, and incorporeal beings are also unaffected.
49 Proof Against Combustion

This spell will call upon the elemental power of water to snuff out any flames within the area. Normal flames even up to the size of a major conflagration will slowly be snuffed out over the course of 1d4 rounds, and new fires can not be started even with magical aid.
Purely magical fires will also be effected by this spell, although not as strongly as normal fires. The caster must make an extinguish check against each ongoing magical fire. An extinguish check is 1d20 +1 per caster level (maximum +8) against a DC of 9 + the spell caster's level. If the check fails then the flames are instead weakened as if cast at four levels lower.
Saving throws versus all fire-based attacks within the spell area also receive a +2 circumstance bonus. In all other respects, however, any fire-based creatures are unaffected by this spell and are able to function and attack normally. However they will experience some discomfort and are more likely to leave the area.

Psychic Backlash

The caster can choose to activate this power as retaliation against the use of most psionic attacks or mind-affecting spell. Every use of an enchantment (compulsion) or illusion (phantasm) spell against the spell caster will also activate it. The backlash will occur for every such spell or power.
Whenever the backlash is triggered by such a mental attack, a blast of mental energy is unleashed in retaliation. If the attacker fails a Willpower saving throw, he will be stunned for a full round then shaken for the following 1d8 rounds. In addition, any psionic use or spells cast for the next minute will require a successful Concentration skill check against DC 10 + spell level. Targets who make their saving throw are merely shaken for 1d4 rounds.
Purgative

With this spell the caster can attempt to purge any physical afflictions from which the target is suffering by inflicting a severe, discomforting excretion of all the bodily humors. The target can choose to resist this spell, in which case the purgative is negated by a successful Fortitude saving throw.
50 This spell will leave the target stunned for a full round. It will also inflict 1d3hp of bleeding damage.
On the following round the target can then make a saving throw with a +2 circumstance bonus for each physical affliction from which he is suffering. A successful saving throw will then negate the malady. This spell can neutralize ingested toxins, cure normal illnesses, remedy alcoholic stupor, relieve a skin irritation, purify infected wounds, clear away nausea, and so forth.
With this spell the caster can cause the wounds of a target to fester - swelling painfully and filling with pus. This will leave a victim feeling tired and sickly for several days. However this spell will only effect a target that has received some form of physical damage.
If a Fortitude saving throw is failed, the strength rating of the target is temporarily reduced by 1d6 points. These points are recovered at the rate of one point per day. In addition, any healing is reduced in effectiveness by one half. Thus any spells of healing only recover half their normal amount, with fractions rounded down. The rate of natural healing requires double the normal time.
Undead, oozes, and outsider creatures are completely immune to this spell. The pyosis is immediately negated by a remove disease spell.

Quarrel Multiplier

This spell allows the caster to enchant up to one ordinary crossbow bolt per level by touching them during the round. If the quarrels are then fired as their wielder's next action, while in flight they will magically split into duplicate copies following a similar trajectory.
The caster can make a maximum of 1d3 duplicate quarrels plus one for each level of experience. A maximum of four of these enchanted duplicates can be added to any of the selected bolts. Thus, for example, a seventh level wizard casting this spell could assign three duplicates to the first quarrel, four to the second quarrel, and one to the third quarrel.
The effected quarrels attack as a +1 missile. If an enchanted quarrel successfully strikes the target, then for each additional point by which the attack roll is made a duplicate enchanted quarrel will also hit the same target. Thus if the attack roll is made by two, then a maximum of three quarrels will strike the target, including the original quarrel. However the damage for each successfully hit must be rolled separately.
Material Component: A strip of parchment folded many times and cut in a pattern. The paper must be burnt and the ashes immediately sprinkled over the selected bolts. All bolts enchanted by means of this spell are destroyed once the round is completed.
51 Razor Grass

When cast upon a field of grassy vegetation, this spell will cause the leaves to turn as hard as bone and the edges to become as sharp as a shaving knife. The leaves will cut and slice anything attempting to move through the grass.
Any solid creatures moving along the ground through the spell area risks taking slashing damage. For every 10 ft. of movement through the grass, a creature is subject to a +3 melee attack for 1d4hp of damage. Creatures engaged in melee combat within the grass also receive an additional such attack.
This spell has no effect on incorporeal, gaseous, or liquid creatures. It also has no effect on creatures effected by a pass without trace spell.
Reset Mechanism

This spell will safely reload or reset any functional mechanical device to its ready state. This can be used for example to cock a heavy crossbow, reset a trap mechanism, or close a drawer or panel. If the device is heavy or difficult to position, resetting the mechanism requires a successful Strength check by the caster using his current Strength + 1/level.
Arcane Material Component: A small metal lever and a fulcrum.
For the duration of this spell the target receives a +4 bonus to any Fortitude saving throw against poison. In addition, the target automatically succeeds on any Fortitude saving throw against plant or animal toxins from creatures with fewer HD than half the caster's level. Finally, any initial and secondary damage from toxins is reduced by one point for every five levels of experience of the caster.
This spell will also function against alcohol and other chemicals that negatively effect the health of the body or abilities of the mind. However it has no effect on magical potions.
52 Retaliation

When this spell is cast, eerie tendrils of green mist protects the target. Whenever an attacker wielding a melee weapon strikes the target the misty tendrils inflict a similar wound upon the attacker. If the attacker fails a Fortitude saving throw then the retaliatory wound will cause 1hp of damage for every two levels of experience of the caster. However the maximum retaliatory damage can not exceed that caused by the original attack.
Retroactive Bifurcation

This rare chronomancer spell creates a minor retroactive change in the time stream, allowing a set of memorized spells to be replaced with a contingency set.
While this spell is being prepared the caster must spend almost the entire ten minutes of casting time memorizing an alternate set of spells from his spell books. One spell must be memorized at each spell level, zero through nine. These ten spells are not immediately available, however, but can be swapped out on a one-for-on basis for a set of any ten memorized spells. These alternate spells can be any known to the caster, with the exception of a retroactive bifurcation.
The act of exchanging the list of spells requires a full round of concentration on the part of the caster. No other action can be taken during the same round. Each of the retroactive bifurcation spells must replace an available spell at the same spell level. These replaced spells are lost, and can only be restored by memorization or by means of a limited wish. If no spell is available for replacement at one of the spell levels, however, then the retroactive bifurcation can not be activated. Once a set of spells has been replaced, the retroactive bifurcation spell immediately expires.
Arcane Material Component: A piece of mica that must be peeled in half.
Returning Weapon

This spell will cause a hand-held weapon to return to the wielder's hand after being thrown. Each time the weapon is thrown it will follow the full path of its trajectory until its motion has completely ceased. On the round after it ceased moving the weapon will immediately teleport back into the grasp of the caster. The weapon is then ready to be used again, and will continue to return for the duration of the spell. It will teleport back to the caster even if another has grasped the weapon. In all other respects the weapon behaves normally.
Material Component: A small metal spring.
53 Reveal Fire

The caster can use this spell to detect the presence of flames nearby. All flames within the area are immediately detected if there is an unblocked approach to the fire. Any source of water or mist will block this spell. The caster can sense the approximate strength of the flames and the source of fuel. If a large fire lies in the path of a smaller flame, however, the caster will only sense the stronger source of heat. He also will not be able to sense smoldering materials or hot ashes from an extinguished fire.

Rive

This spell allows the caster to strike any creature that normally requires a +1 or better magic weapon to hit. One weapon or missile for every four levels of the caster can be enchanted in this manner. The weapons gain no other benefits from this spell.
Rolling Rock

The wizard can use this spell to turn a fist-sized round rock into a boulder that the caster commands to roll about, crushing everything in its path. The boulder will continue to move in a straight line unless the caster focuses on controlling its path. It moves at a maximum rate of 40 ft. per round. However each ninety-degree turn costs 10-ft. of movement. This speed will be reduced to half on very soft ground, such as a march or beach. A 5-ft. high solid barrier or a reinforced opening less than 10 ft. in width can block the boulder.
Creatures in the path of the boulder must make a Reflex saving throw or or suffer 8d6 hit points of crushing damage. For every 5 ft. of continuous forward movement, the boulder will inflict an additional 1d6 hit points of damage, up to a combined maximum of 12d6 hit points.
Material Components: A small metal lever, a triangular fulcrum, and a fist-size round rock.
54 Salwin's Journey of the Torch

This spell allows the caster to step into an ordinary fire and emerge from a similar fire some distance away. The range of this spell is unlimited, but both fires must be burning at the time the spell is cast, and they must lie on the same dimensional plane. The caster must be familiar with the destination location or the spell will automatically fail.
If the intended target fire has been extinguished, the caster will instead emerge from a different fire. This fire will be the closest sufficiently large flame to the target location. If this is the starting fire then he will remain in the original location. The caster has no control over this alternate destination and may end up inside a common fireplace or at the heart of a forest fire. However, under no circumstances will he emerge into solid material.
This spell will provide complete protection from fire and heat for a single round. This allows the caster to quickly step into the fire and become enshrouded in the flames, then step out of the destination fire at the end of the journey. He can transport his own weight plus the maximum amount he can physically carry and still move, as limited by his strength.
Material Component: A fire, which must be at least 2' in diameter for a medium-sized creature. The fire must be increased in proportion to the size of the caster.
Upon completing this spell the caster is able to rapidly absorb written information from a book or other written documents. He can read both sides of five full sheets of parchment per round. The information will remain vividly in his memory for a full week, and can be reviewed at will. Thereafter the memory of the written information will gradually fade in the normal manner.
If more than one scholarly perusal spell is cast in the course of a week the caster must make a Wisdom check against DC 15 or be stunned for 2d6 minutes. If the check is failed he will also immediately lose all memory of the written information he has absorbed during the previous casting of this spell.

Scribe of Ages

When this spell is complete the caster can transfer his vocalizations into text on a single clean sheet of parchment. The text is written in an elegant calligraphic style and is completely free of errors of either spelling or punctuation. While the spell is in effect the writing can be re-arranged at the will of the caster. Once the spell duration has expired, however, the writing becomes permanent.
55 It is not uncommon for important documents created by this spell to be embellished later with ornate borders and illustrations. Priests will often leave blank areas on the parchment for this purpose.
The writing marks left by the scribe of ages spell are completely immune to the arcane erase spell. Nor can they be physically wiped away or spoiled by water or other solvents. They will not fade if exposed to sunlight or other sources of ultraviolet radiation.

Sea Fins

The caster can use this spell to magically transform a number of finned projectiles so they can be fired unhindered through water. When the spell is complete the fins of the projectiles grow in size, becoming slick and rubbery like the tail of a fish. When the missiles are launched, the fins wiggle rapidly back and forth, pushing the projectile swiftly toward the target. As a result these missiles can strike underwater targets with a range multiple half that on land.
Up to six small finned missiles can be effected by this spell with each casting - the number that can readily be held in one hand. The spell lasts for a maximum of one hour/level, and during that time the missiles are completely protected from the effects of being soaked in water. The types of missiles that can be effected by this spell include arrows, bolts, and darts.
Material Component: A drop of fish oil.
Secret Confidence

This spell will protect the target against involuntarily or unknowingly revealing a specific piece of information. However he is not prevented from revealing this information should he voluntarily choose to do so. This protected information must have been revealed to the target prior to the casting of this spell.
The information is warded against all attempts to extract it by mind reading abilities. In addition the knowledge can not be accidentally revealed through drunkenness, fever, or other conditions. The target is forewarned about any attempts to determine the information through trickery. His will to retain the knowledge can not be broken through torment or threats.
This spell expires when the target shares the information with another individual. The spell can also be negated when the caster speaks a trigger phrase specified when the spell was cast.
56 Sense Fate

Upon casting this spell the caster is able to subconsciously discern the flow of fate in the surrounding vicinity. This allows him to instinctively adjust his actions slightly to match the changing circumstances. As a result, his initiative is improved by +3 and any Reflex saving throws receive a +2 bonus.
Serpent Garden

This spell allows the caster to summon several large-size viper snakes to restlessly patrol just outside the perimeter of a 15-ft. radius circle. One snake is summoned for every two levels of experience of the caster. These snakes will attack any intruder they can perceive that approach within 10 ft. of the exterior of the perimeter, with the exception of the caster. If a snake is slain then it will immediately vanish.
When this spell is cast a band of silken darkness forms across the eyes of the target, protecting him from the dazzling effects of bright light. His vision will otherwise be unaffected, although the glare from reflecting surfaces will be reduced to a much more comfortable level.
This spell provides complete protection against the dazzling effects of any light-based spells. It also eliminates any penalties due to fighting in bright lighting.
57 hadow Spy

The caster can employ any shadow that is visible and within range of this spell to serve as a spy for the caster. Once the spell is complete, the caster can both see and hear anything witnessed by that shadow, even if the shadow belongs to a moving creature or target. When no light source is present to cast the shadow, such as after dusk, this spell will cease to function. The spell is also negated if an additional light source lines up to completely eliminate the shadow.
Material Component: Powdered charcoal.
Shape Waves

Upon completing this spell the caster is able to form water into simple shapes within the spell area. This shape can be maintained for as long as the caster concentrates, plus one round per level thereafter. Once concentration is lost it can be re- established as long as the spell is still in effect.
There must be at least ten times as much water present in the spell area as is needed to form the water shape. The shaped water can attain a maximum height of two feet for every ten feet across. The water will constantly churn in an effort to maintain the shape and it will immediately collapse when the spell duration elapses. This churning of the water will slow ships or swimming creatures in the spell area.
The amount of reduction is proportional to the maximum ship or creature dimension versus the radius of the spell. Thus a 50- ft. ship in a 100-ft. radius circle of churning water will move at half the normal rate. The master of a ship must also make a Profession (seamanship) skill roll, or his ship will founder and make no progress at all.
If targeted upon a creature from the elemental plane of water, the shape waves spell will function identically to a hold monster spell. A successful Willpower saving throw will negate the effect of this hold.
Shield Bubbles

This spell will create several shimmering bubbles of magical force that float about under the command of the caster. One bubble can be created for each level of the caster. For each such bubble, the caster must designate a single target. That bubble will then maneuver to remain between the target and the caster, quickly countering every action the target makes.
58 Each such bubble will completely and unfailingly absorb any single ranged attack between the caster and the target, including spells that require a ranged touch attack. Once the attack has been absorbed, the bubble will then pop out of existence, dropping the missile to the ground. Absorbed spell energy is merely negated.
At the start of each round the caster can designate new targets for the remaining bubbles, and they will maneuver to block this new opponent. More than one bubble can be directed against a single opponent, making a series of obstacles that will block repeated ranged attacks.
The bubbles will otherwise have no effect, and will not block movement or pose an obstacle of any sort. (Although an unknowledgeable foe may approach such bubbles warily.) Any melee attacks directed against these bubbles will merely pass through the surface.
Material Component: A drop of bathing oil.
Silvery Lance

When this spell is complete the caster calls into being a lance of silvery light. This lance can take the form of a light or heavy lance, but the type must be chosen when the spell is cast. The silver lance functions in all respects as a normal weapon, and gains a +1 bonus to the attack roll. If the target of an attack by this weapon is opposite the caster in at least one alignment aspect, then the lance gains a +3hp damage bonus. Thus if the wielder is good in alignment and the target is evil, the weapon will inflict an additional 3hp of damage.
Sizzling Web

Like a circular fishing net made with strands of fire, this spell entangles the target and continues to burn until he escapes or is released. Upon releasing this spell, the caster hurls a tangle of brightly burning threads toward the target. On a successful ranged attack using the net exotic weapon proficiency, this tangle unfurls and expands to envelop the target.
The web will completely immobilize the target, and begin inflicting 2d6hp of fire damage per round. Breaking free of the web requires a successful Strength check roll against DC 11 + the caster's level. Anybody grasping the web in an attempt to unwrap the victim suffers 1d6hp of fire damage per round. The flames have no effect on the caster.
Material Component: A length of hemp that has been soaked in lamp oil then carefully wound into a small, tight ball.
This elvish variant of the fireball spell will create an explosion of hot gas and smoke that singes anybody caught in the spell area. It also creates a dense cloud of choking smoke that obstructs vision and inhibits combat. The smoky explosion causes 2d6hp of damage for every three levels of the caster, up to a maximum of 8d6hp.
Creatures caught within the spell area that make a Reflex saving throw will suffer only half the normal damage. Those that fail their saving throw take full damage and must make an additional Fortitude saving throw or be nauseated by the choking smoke for 1d3 rounds.
Since the spell was created to reduce the incendiary effects of the flames, any items receive a +2 bonus their saving throw. Items that would normally burst into flames when exposed to fire will not be ignited by this spell if they successfully save.
The volume of dense smoke created by this spell limits visibility to less than a foot. This smoke will rise and dissipate within a round unless it is inside a sealed area.
This spell will remove any scars from the flesh, restoring the skin to its natural healthy tone. In the process this spell will heal 1d3hp of superficial damage and remove any charisma modification resulting from a prior wound. This spell will also clear away small growths, pock marks, port-stain marks, and weathered skin.
Focus: An untarnished silvered hand mirror.
Solar Intensity

When cast in full daylight, this spell will cause the heat of the sun to focus intensely upon specific targets within the spell area. Any targeted beings in the spell area will be the focus of a significant portion of the cumulative light and heat. These targets are automatically dazzled by the focused light, suffering a -1 penalty to any attack rolls. They will also start to feel uncomfortably hot.
60 A maximum of one creature per level of the caster can be effected by this spell with targets selected at will by the caster once each round. On the first round a creature is targeted, it will begin to suffer from the increasingly intense heat. This heat will cause 1hp of damage on the second round a creature is targeted, 2hp on the third round, 3hp on the fourth, and up to a maximum of 4hp per round thereafter. Targeted creatures that make a Reflex saving throw will only suffer half damage from the heat.
Due to the focusing of all the sunlight on a few targets, the remainder of the spell area will appear gloomy and shadowed, as if a dark cloud had covered the sun. The air temperature in the spell area will become somewhat chilly, but not uncomfortably so.
Spider Web

This improved version of the web spell covers the strands of the web with many hundreds of small spiders of various sizes and types. Any strenuous movements within the web will immediately attract the attention of these spiders and they will swarm all over the target, biting and stinging repeatedly.
For every round of normal movement through the web, each creature suffers 1hp of bite damage and the effects of the spider venom. The spider toxin deals 1d2hp per round of temporary Strength damage immediately and another 1d3 of temporary Strength damage 1 minute later. Each instance of damage can be negated by a Fortitude save (DC 10 + one-half caster level.)
Material Component: A spider web cocoon containing live spider eggs.
Strife

This spell can be used to spread strife and discord among your enemies. The target is a single creature that must make a Willpower saving throw or it begins to act in a hostile and aggressive manner toward his nearest ally. This ally in turn must make a Willpower saving throw with a +1 bonus or he in turn must make a reaction roll with the same modifiers versus his nearest unaffected ally. The strife propagates in this manner, with each additional target receiving a cumulative +1 bonus to their Willpower saving throw. A successful saving throw will prevent the further spread of the strife, as will a lack of additional targets.
Summon Guide

61 This spell will summon an intelligent entity that is familiar with the local region and general properties of the current plane. This being can serve as a guide for the caster and his companions. The guide is the best available local candidate that failed its Will saving throw.
To be successful this spell requires a successful summoning check. The summoning check is 1d20 + caster's level (maximum +12) against the DC for the region. In a sparsely populated area the DC is 15. This drops to a DC of 10 in a rural settled area and 5 within a day's march of a town or city. The DC will be increased by +5 each time this spell is cast during the same week-long period by the caster.
The guide will initially be favorably disposed to perform this function, at least if his risk appears minimal. He can only understand the native languages of the region, and it is up to the caster and his companions to establish a means of communication. A suitable inducement will also be required to gain the faithful services of this individual. Depending on the local conditions, the required inducement may take the form of a payment, an exchange of services, or even a threat of bodily harm.
It is not uncommon for the same guide to be summoned with repeated castings of this spell at the same region of the plane. However, a guide that has been ill treated or bargained with in bad faith will not appear on future castings of this spell.
The guide can be dismissed by a word from the caster, but will otherwise remain with the party for the duration of the spell unless he becomes inclined to depart. If the guide is slain his corpse will remain at the location it fell until the spell duration expires. Note that if the deceased guide had any friends or relatives they may be inclined to extract revenge should they discover the reason for the fatality.
Material Component: A string of beads and a good quality knife.
Upon casting this spell a cluster of intensely glowing balls of sunlight fly from the fingertips of the caster to wash over the targets. Each target that fails a Reflex saving throw will be dazzled for 1d4 rounds. The visual acuity of a dazzled victim is greatly diminished and he is only able to perceive vague areas of light and shadow.
If this spell is cast against any targets vulnerable to sunlight, they will suffer the same effect as if they were exposed to the sun for a full round. The spell must be prayed for in daylight.
With this spell, the caster is able to greatly increase the viscosity of a body of liquid, slowing the movement of any objects through the fluid. The thick liquid has no effect upon the caster, but all others swim and move at half their normal rate. If there are strong currents in the spell area, these will disperse the spell within 2d4 rounds.
Arcane Material Component: A drop of tree sap.
62 Tale of the Flame

Upon completing this spell, the caster is able to gain certain information from a fire or its remains. This knowledge includes how and when it was started, for how long it burned, the types of wood and other material used for fuel, whether anything was heated in the fire, and the frequency of fuel additions.
At least a handful of the ashes must be available in order to get sufficient information about the fire. No information will be received about who started or maintained the fire, other that what can be deduced from the information above.
Talos' Bounding Box

The caster designates a box-shaped volume as the target of this spell. Upon completion of the spell, the sides of the box will glow with a transparent, coruscating pattern of violet and pink magical energies occasionally gleaming with bright blue sparks. The interior surfaces of this box will powerfully constrain newly manifested magical effects. As a result the magic will only take effect where it intersects with the box volume.
For each spell that is targeted inside the box, a bounding check is made to determine if the spell area is constrained to the bounding box volume. A bounding check is 1d20 +1 per caster level (maximum +10) against a DC of 6 + the spells caster level. If the check is successful, then the spell can not expand beyond the sides of the box.
If a spell has an effect instead of a target location, then it is constrained only if it initially intersects some portion of the bounding box. In certain cases this may result in the spell being ineffective or negated, in which case a dispel magic check must also be made as per the dispel magic spell. Spells that manifest outside the box and then advance through the volume, such as a cloudkill spell, are unaffected by the Talos bounding box spell.
This spell can be used to test new spells or to create a warded training area for apprentice wizards. At 9th level a bounding box can be made permanent by means of the permanency spell at a cost of 1,500 XP. Typically this is done on the exterior of a specially built chamber whose walls will further constrain the magical outbursts.
Material Component: A hollow lead cube.
63 Talos' Folded Box

With this spell the wizard can create a permanent extra-dimensional space to form a room. This chamber does not exist in normal space and so occupies no volume. The chamber must be box-shaped, with a maximum volume of a 10-ft. cube per level of the caster.
The box space is created by outlining the first entrance while casting the spell, and the box can have up to six different entrances with one on each face of the box. Each such entrance must be fully supported along all edges with solid material, and that entry will collapse if any of the supporting material is removed. Each entrance acts like a normal passage between two areas, so any and all physical objects and environmental effects can freely pass through the openings. The entrances can be any size or shape, limited by the size of the box size. However all entrances must lie within 20 ft./level of each other on the exterior.
For the first hour after creating a folded box, the caster can modify its properties by changing the shape and adding, moving, or removing entrances. He almost has complete control over the properties of the interior, and can vary any of its environmental properties to match that of any dimensional plane. Thus the box could match the properties of the fire elemental plane, for example. Once the hour has passed, however, the box becomes completely fixed and immutable.
Nothing short of a wish spell or the destruction of all entrances will destroy the box. If a box is completely destroyed then all of its contents are immediately deposited onto the astral plane.
XP Cost: 1,000 XP.
Talos' Private Box

This spell will place the caster within a cube-shaped box made out of magical fields of force. The sides of the box must not intersect a solid material when created or the spell will fail.
The box will have exactly one entrance of arbitrary dimensions, which glows faintly when viewed from the interior. The caster can always open the box door, as can one individual/level he has designated at the time the spell was cast. Opening the door is the only means to enter the box. If at any time the box is left completely empty of occupants, then the spell will immediately expire.
The silvery exterior of the box will reflect any light and is completely opaque. Any attempts to scry or otherwise magically or psionically observe the interior of the box will fail, giving only the appearance of a black, empty void. The only external marking is a personal sigil that the wizard can place on the door.
The box is magically anchored in space and so can not be moved. It is immune to damage of all kinds, and is totally unaffected by most spells. The box sides will prevent entry to ethereal creatures and will block access by magical spells such as teleport and dimension door. The box is only vulnerable to any effects that can destroy a wall of force.
Note that when the door is closed the box is completely sealed from the outside air. The inner walls are completely black, save for the glow about the door. Air within the box is magically purified and will allow up to one person per level of the
64 caster to stay inside the box without turning the air stale. The temperature will also stay comfortable as long as the number of people inside does not exceed the limit. Starting a fire within the box, however, will consume a significant portion of the air and will turn the interior uncomfortably warm.
Material Component: A thin sheet of silver that is at least 3 in. by 3 in.
Tangleberry

When this spell is cast, the priest can hurl 2-in. long Tangleberry seeds at up to three different targets. Each target must have a solid physical form and be at least small in size or the web will have no effect.
The seeds will rapidly grow and expand into a tangled, thorny growth. If a Reflex saving throw is failed this growth will trap the target in a web of tough and fibrous branches. The needle thorns will grow out several inches, inflicting an initial total of 1d8hp of piercing damage to the victim. Until freed the victim is helpless in this web.
Each round a victim can attempt to escape from the Tangleberry web, but doing so requires a strength check against DC 15 + the caster's level. If the entangled victim aids in this attempt to escape, he will suffer an additional 1d4hp of damage from the penetrating thorns.
Material Component: Three live Tangleberry seeds. The Tangleberries will sprout small, three-pronged leaves and clusters of unpleasant tasting dark green berries. This plant is uncommon and exists only in temperate deciduous forests.
Trace Teleport

This spell will allow the caster to detect the use of a teleporting spell or magic item within the spell area during the past day. This spell can automatically detect either the starting point or the destination, if they lie within the spell area.
The spell also gives the caster a chance to determine both the source and destination of the teleporting being. The caster can find the distance and direction to the teleport site, and the direction in which the teleport occurred. Determining this information requires a check roll, consisting of 1d20 + the caster's level (maximum +10) against a DC 10 +1 per hour of time that has passed since the teleport occurred.
Material Component: A handful of finely powdered chalk that must be blown from the palm in a circle.
When the internal organs of a caster eventually begin to fail due to age, he can use the following spell to transfer fresh new organs from a suitable donor to his own body. This donor must be from a similar species as the caster or the organs will fail within a short time. If the transplant is successful, the spell will adapt the organs sufficiently so that the body of the caster does not reject it.
The organ transplant will extend the life of the caster by a further 1d4 years, although it will not alleviate any age-related deterioration of the mind. Of course, this transplant will most likely prove fatal to the donor, so a suitable sacrificial being must be obtained prior to casting this spell. If the donor does not have duplicate organs in its body, this spell will result in the ultimate death of the subject creature.
This specialized spell is considered so onerous that most guilds forbid its copying or teaching. It is an extremely rare magic ritual known only to a few isolated Vivimancers.
Focus: The blade of a chirurgeon.
True Home

When this spell is cast, the inner psyche of the target is deeply probed in order to determine the location of the "True Home" of the being. This "True Home" is a place that calls to the deepest desire of the creature for a residence, and may not actually coincide with his current dwelling place. When the probe is completed, the target is effected by a teleport without error spell, with the addition of interplanar travel. The target is immediately sent to the site identified, regardless of the distance, plane, or duration involved.
Once the being arrives at the "True Home" he will feel a strong, disjointed sensation with his immediate past, as if the target has merely awoken from a long, very detailed dream. Unless some experience draws the target back to reality, this sensation will grow stronger with time until the being feels like he has always lived in this place. The target will blend seamlessly into his new environment and will dismiss any casual queries about his past whereabouts. However, a chance meeting with a friend from his past or news from the outside world will snap him out of this state should he make a successful Willpower saving throw.
For most extraplanar beings, true home will merely function like the dismissal spell.
Material Components: A piece of homemade quilt and handful of ashes from a family hearth.
66 Ultratalk

This spell allows the caster to hear and converse at the ultrasonic level. This can be useful when listening for creatures using sonar, or when several spell casters need to converse in privacy. When the spell caster speaks, normal humans will hear nothing beyond a slight high-pitched whining sound. While this spell is in effect, however, the caster will be unable to hold a conversation in the normal hearing range.
The caster can use an animated framework, such as a skeleton or golem, and graft on a living sheath that will give the being the appearance of a true life form for all intents and purposes. This covering must be provided with nutrients and water, however, or it will wither and drop from the body.
The being can no longer be detected as an undead, and can not be turned or rebuked by a cleric. The outer sheath of flesh gives a +1 natural armor bonus, but reduces Dexterity by one. The flesh will add a 1hp per caster's level of added protection to the creature, but will not increase the HD total. This flesh can be wounded and will bleed, but this will have no effect on the sheathed being. Once the flesh has absorbed its hit point rating in damage it will slough off and any further damage is applied directly to the underlying creature.
Material Components: A large pot or tank full of primordial life forms, such as pond scum, mold, or fungi. This living soup must then be gradually heated until the material is separated into its basic components.
Undead Artisan

This spell will only function on any undead being animated by the animate dead spell. The target of this spell will recover some of its original memories and abilities. It receives a single craft or profession skill it had while still alive, as selected by the caster. It is also given a temporary intelligence equal to half the caster's level. Thus it can be given more complicated instructions and even be assigned simple missions. This undead also resists turn attempts as undead with double the number of hit dice.
Material Component: A tool that belonged to the undead while it was alive.
67 Utter Identity

This spell gives the caster a reasonable chance of determining the identity of a single being beyond all reasonable doubt. Each round the caster can ask one question concerning the identity of the target. If the creature fails a Will check, the answer to that question will be correctly revealed to the caster. If the Will check is successful, then the question can not be asked again or even rephrased until the next time this spell is cast.
The types of information that can be determined with this spell include any names and aliases used by the target, identities of family members, the race or species, where and when the target was born, its alignment, and specific long-term activities it has undertaken in the past. The spell can also be used to determine if the identity of the creature has been altered by magical or other means. These alterations include reincarnations, changes in alignment, reversals in gender, alterations due to wish or limited wish spells, transformations to different species, cloning, and the erasure or revision of memories.
What the spell can not be used to determine is the true name of a beast. It is not necessary for the target to know the answers to the questions asked by the caster, as they are answered magically.
Material Components: Selected rare materials and ingredients worth a total of 400gp, burned in a blessed chalice upon an altar of the characters deity.
Focus: Blessed chalice worth 1,500gp.
Vanity Image

When the spell is completed, the caster draws a duplicate illusory image of any creature within range out of a mirrored surface. As long as concentration is maintained the caster can cause this image to move and act at his whims anywhere within a 100-ft. radius. Once the concentration ends, however, this image immediately winks out of existence. If the image moves beyond the line of sight of the caster, the spell is immediately broken.
Focus: Any unbroken mirror surface at least 1 square foot in area.
68 Wall of Garbage

Trash arrives from every direction, accumulating into a huge pile of disgusting garbage. This barrier can be readily penetrated and cleared at the rate of 5 ft. per round, but passers-by are certainly not going to be impressed with your activities. The pile is flammable, but will burn with a slow, smoldering flame that emits thick clouds of smoke lasting for 2d4 hours. Cultist priests who worship the reviled god of rot are the primarily users of this spell.
Upon casting this spell, a straight wall of sparking electrical discharges appears between the floor and the ceiling. The vertical wall is 20-foot square per level of the caster, with the width greater than the height. Two solid surfaces must exist across either the entire length or the full height of the wall. The multiple bolts of electricity constantly snap and twist between these two parallel surfaces.
The lightning will inflict 3d6hp +1hp per level of the caster upon any creature attempting to pass through it. A successful Reflex saving throw will reduce this damage to half but this throw must be made each time a target passes through the wall. (See the lightning bolt spell description for other damage effects.)

This spell covers all of the possessions worn or carried by the target with a faintly shimmering blue aura. This aura will give a +4 bonus to any item saving throws versus damage caused by weapons or energy attacks. It also renders the items completely immune to damage from acid or rust. Equipment protected by this spell will not wear or grow dull through repeated use.
This protection does not extend to the items or equipment worn by another being. Thus it does not protect a saddle on which the target is riding. Nor does this spell protect objects that the target is helping to carry. The items must be entirely supported by the spell target.
Arcane Material Component: A piece of amber, or a drop of oil and some powdered resin.
69 Water Sight

By means of this spell, the caster is able to see clearly through all forms of water including snow or ice. The visibility will be as if the water did not exist, although it does not compensate for any reduction in lighting. Thus this spell is typically only effective out to a range of 500 feet in clear water, 20 feet through glacial ice, and 5 feet through snow. The water will still be visible to the caster, but will appear as a faint, ghostly material.
By means of this spell, the caster attempts to weaken the effects of any active toxins in the body of the targets. To have any effect this spell must be cast in the minute prior to the secondary damage taking effect. The target can make an additional Fortitude saving throw against any toxin in his system. If this bonus roll is successful, the secondary damage of a poison is avoided.
This spell will also function against alcohol and other chemicals that negatively effect the health of the body or abilities of the mind. However it has no effect on magical potions.
Wheel of Pax

Upon casting this spell a large glowing white wheel of spiritual energy appears in the air above the head of the caster and slowly begins to turn. The wheel has a single spoke for every two levels of the caster and they connect to a glowing hub in the center. The wheel radiates a powerful feeling of peace and contentment within the spell area.
Any beings that come within 40 ft. of the wheel must make a Willpower saving or be incapable of performing hostile or aggressive behavior towards another. This includes spoken threats, angry gestures, violent acts, or offensive spells.
In addition, any being that attempts to physically, magically, or psionically injure or control any being within 40 ft. of the wheel will be attacked by a bolt of divine serenity. This bolt uses the ranged attack bonus of the caster and has a range increment of 40 ft. Creatures struck by a bolt must make a Willpower saving throw versus spells or be paralyzed for 2d6 rounds. The wheel can emit one such bolt for every spoke. However if the maximum number of allowed bolts is emitted during any one round, then the spell is immediately negated.
70 If the caster moves more than 20 ft. from the wheel, or performs a hostile or aggressive act, then the spell is immediately cancelled.

Wicked Blow

This spell allows the caster to deal a particularly nasty wound to an opponent. This wound will automatically cause the critical damage for the weapon, or reduce the total hit points of the target to exactly half the current remaining amount, whichever is least harmful. A successful attack with a weapon is required to inflict this wound. Once the wound has been inflicted the spell ends.
For example a successful attack with a battle-axe will automatically inflict a x3 critical result. But if the total damage is more than half the remaining hit points, the target is instead reduced to half the current hit point total.
Wood Shape

With this spell, the caster is able to make minor, deliberate changes to the shape of any piece of wood. Thus a stave or arrow can be straightened out, the legs of a chair or table evened out, a peephole can be made in an ordinary door, or the door can be reshaped to allow an opening.
If the spell area is sufficient, this spell can also alter the shape of a tree. The tree can be permanently shaped to form a small hut, a lower trunk free of branches, a regular or unusual shape, or even a large nest for a Roc or other large flying creature. Intelligent trees can make a Fortitude saving throw to avoid the effects of this spell.
The shaping will tend to bend along the natural grain of the wood, so any breaks across the grain will require a failed saving throw. Otherwise no openings larger than a tenth the width of the piece of wood can be created. The artistry of the changes made to the wood is determined by a carpentry skill check.
This spell will allow the caster to see clearly through the densest forest and scrubs. Any leaves and small branches blocking the view will become almost completely transparent to sight, and only rocks, trees, and other hard structures will block his vision. Note that an unblocked view to a target does not necessarily allow a clear shot using a ranged weapon or spell.
