GENERAL

CAUTION
At the time of loading or unloading, all of the instructions in this OPERATIION

MANUAL and the manuals of each equipment or part manufacturer concerned
should be carefully read, understood and followed.
The system consists of 2 units of the 3750 m３ horizontal cylindrical tank installed in the hull
in order to transport the liquefied gas in fully pressurized state and has a total volume
of 7500 m３.
The maximum specific gravity of the cargoes is 0.965 and the tank has only value of
Relief Valve Setting 17.65 bar g (1.765MPa g).
The minimum service temperature of the system is -10 ℃, except the cargo piping from the
manifold to the cargo heater.
Loading is accomplished by land-side facility and the discharging cargo is done by

the ship's deep-well pump.
The ship is equipped with two sets of cargo compressors used for transferring cargo vapor
or collecting the cargo liquid remaining in the cargo pipe line after cargo handling operation.
Two different products can not be carried at a time and the provisions for segregation of
different products are not fitted.
Instrumentation required to monitor the cargo operations is installed in the cargo control room
with no provisions for automatic control operations except for emergency related functions.
Cargo handling equipment is locally operated, with start/stop controls and

associated instrumentation near the device to be operated.

1-7. GENERAL PRECAUTION for CARGO HANDLING WORKS
General
LPG, Butadiene, VCM (Vinyl chloride) and Isoprene, etc. are high pressure and
hazard gases.
Therefore those who deal with these cargoes must be thoroughly familiar with
the function of LPG tankers and all kinds of port facilities, and
manipulate it well in strict accordance with the following instructions so that
accidents will be avoided.
Vessel should hang out a red flag by day and a red lamp by night on the mast
to show that the dangerous cargo is being transported.
a. Loading
After complete checking of the loading equipments, the loading works
should be started by the instructions of the chief director on the shore side
who assumes responsibility for loading works.
The vessel should leave the shore as soon as the loading works are finished.
b. Chief Director for Cargo Handling Works

(1) The chief officer assumes responsibility as the chief director for loading
works and then he gives instructions in works.
(2) He should always stay on the spot and give the instructions communicating
with operators.

c. Mooring and Unmooring

(1) The chief director of the shore side should give the instruction of
mooring and unmooring.
(2) The red buoys are to be provided to secure the safety of the loading works
on the prescribed dangerous zone, and watching vessels navigating nearby
shall be performed to ensure the safety of the vessels.
(3) The vessel should be at anchor when mooring.
(4) As an open fire on board should be prohibited while mooring, the meal
service should be prepared beforehand if it is necessary.
(5) Smoking on board should be prohibited while mooring.
(6) Always keep standby for action. Any repairing of machinery should be
prohibited.
(7) The gas detection should be conducted while mooring.

d. Preparation for Loading

(1) An earth line should be connected between the shore side and the vessel's
before connecting loading cargo pipes.
(2) The chief director of the shore side should instruct the joint of cargo pipes.
(3) The impact of the metal fittings (sparks) should be absolutely avoided.
(Use safety tools)
(4) The captain must confirm the followings beforehand.
a) No repairs and dangerous works to be done without permission.
b) Prohibition of fire.
c) Good condition of loading equipments.
d) The certification which shows the inhibitor treatment is done on
the cargoes such as VCM(Vinyl chloride), Butadiene, and Isoprene.
e) Good condition of the fire extinguishing system. There should be
at least two fire extinguishers near the joint of cargo pipes. (cargo manifold)
f) Certain fastening of the joint by the bolts and nuts.
g) Sufficiency of mooring rope.
(5) Loading works should be stopped or suspended if any of the following
matters takes place.
a) A storm with thunder is coming.
b) A fire breaks out near the vessel.
c) Other vessel is coming close or going away. (except the vessels without danger)
d) The port master gives instruction to stop the works.

e. Loading and Unloading

(1) Communicate the completion of preparations to the chief director of
the shore side, and start the loading works by his instruction.
(2) An operator should observe the handling of valves, condition of cargo pipes
and mooring.
(3) If any emergency matter takes place, tell it to the chief director
on the shore base and take an expedient action.
(4) When the cargo is filled to its scheduled quantity, both the shore base
and vessel should give information to each other.
(5) Cargo is to be restricted to the normal temperature, and the vapor pressure
at 45 ℃ is to be less than the designed pressure limit of tank.
(6) The quantity of cargo should be restricted within the filling limits as follows.
a) The quantity of cargo is regulated by Chapter 15.1.1 of IGC code.
It should not be more than 98 % liquid full at the reference temperature.
b) The float level gauge should be used for measuring the quantity of cargo.
(7) The chief director should always watch liquid level, pressure and
progress of loading, and also should especially notice that the high level alarm
should not work.
(8) Don't load any goods on the vessel without permission of the chief director
of the shore side.
(9) Be careful to keep the dangerous gas from entering accommodation space.

f. Completion of Loading Works

(1) The chief director on the shore base should give instructions for
disconnecting the cargo pipes as soon as the loading works are finished.
(2) Check each parts of the loading equipments.
(3) Remove an earth line between vessel's side and the shore's after
disconnecting the cargo pipes.
g. Restriction on Fire Use

(1) Prohibition of an open fire while mooring.
(2) No admittance on board without permission.
(3) The captain should clearly indicate the prohibition (1) (2) at some proper
places on board.
(4) Put on the safety shoes during loading works.
(5) Prohibition of the use of the light except the electric lamps mounted
on board and the explosion-proof type portable lamp, and prohibition of
carrying naked iron tools or things apt to spark at the places where
there is a possibility of danger, for instance, gas leakage or explosion.
h. Gas Detection
In the hold and the other places where there is a danger of gas leakage
or stagnation, the gas detection should be performed. If the gas quantity
reaches near the explosion limit, the proper protecting treatments should
be performed to avoid explosion and a fire. The instruments for
gas detection should be calibrated regularly to keep their precision.
After sounding the warning bell and confirming the absence of person,
the engine room should be sprayed with CO２ gas when the cargo gas quantity
comes near the explosion limit.

i. Entry into Spaces

(1) Personnel should not enter cargo tanks, hold spaces, void spaces,
cargo handling spaces or other enclosed spaces where gas may accumulate unless :
(a) the gas content of the atmosphere in that space is determined by
means of fixed or portable equipment to ensure oxygen sufficiency and
the absence of toxic atmosphere; or
(b) personnel wear breathing apparatus and other necessary protective
equipment and the entire operation is under the close supervision of
a responsible officer.
(2) Personnel entering any space designated as gas-dangerous should not
introduce any potential source of ignition into the space unless it has been
certified gas-free and is maintained in that condition.
j. Cleaning
(1) Clean around the tank and piping devices, and inside the hold.
Never heap up inflammables.
(2) Before cleaning the manifold′s strainers or removing pipes, the pressure
at these parts should be lowered to the atmospheric pressure.
(3) Check and ascertain safety before exhausting drain of the tank.
As soon as this work is finished, shut the stop valve of the tank tightly
and lower the remained pressure of the piping out of the stop valve to
the atmospheric pressure.
The material of the drain hose which is used discharging the drain shall be suitable for
each cargo and avoid static electricity

k. General Caution
(1) Each of the valves should be opened and closed steadily.
(2) Each of the valves should be opened and closed gradually.
(3) Each of the valves should be taken apart sometimes and repaired, or
their touching faces should be faced up.
(4) Leak test should be applied to the valves of which repairing work are finished.
(5) The pressure gauges and the thermometers should be regularly calibrated
and checked to keep their precision.
(6) Tightness test of 17.65 bar g (1.765MPa g)should be given to the tank
which is to be dried up after assembled.
(7) The bolts and nuts at joining part should be regularly checked for their tightness.
(8) The power switch of high level alarm switch should be being turned off
during navigation as the liquid level is changed by waves of liquid.
It should be being turned on while loading.
(9) Usually, the valve for the pressure switch on the oil hydraulic piping should be opened.

2-1. LOADING LIMIT
The tank should not be over-charged. Each cargo tank should not be loaded more than
98% liquid full at the reference temperature according to the IGC CODE.
The maximum loading limit (LL) to which a cargo tank is to be loaded should be
determined by the following formula.

≪ FOR REFERENCE ≫
The vent system of cargo tanks are designed and constructed in accordance with
IMO RESOLUTION A.829 (19). ｢ GUIDELINE FOR THE EVALUATION OF THE
ADEQUACY OF TYPE C TANK VENT SYSTEM ｣ adopted on 23 November 1995.
The specific gravity of cargo at the highest temperature which the cargo may reach upon
the termination of loading, during the transport, or at the discharging under the ambient design
temperature condition, should be depending on the ship's service route.
The ship owner may demonstrate to the relevant Administration the rational for
his selection of " the highest temperature ". The loading capacity of the cargo tank
in accordance with the amendment to the filling limit of IGC Code at the temperature
of 45 ℃ is shown on the next page for example.

Note 1) The limit of charged liquefied gas quantity shall be less than 98 %

4) Practical steps should be taken to ensure that the polymer or peroxides

do not accumulate in the cargo system.
5) Air should be removed from the cargo tanks and associated pipings
before loading and then subsequently excluded by introducing inert gas
(including nitrogen gas) to maintain a positive pressure.
Oxygen contents of inert gas should never exceed 0.2 % by volume.
6) The cargo should be sufficiently inhibited to prevent polymerization

during the voyage. An inhibitor certificate from the manufacturer should be
provided on board.
Ships should be provided with a certificate stating:
(a) name and amount of inhibitor added
(b) date when inhibitor was added and the normally expected duration
of its effectiveness
(c) any temperature limitations affecting the inhibitor
(d) the action to be taken should the length of the voyage exceed
the effective life-time of the inhibitors

7) In case polymerization of VCM (Vinyl chloride) is prevented by addition of

an inhibitor, above 6) is applied.
In case no or insufficient inhibitor has been added, any inert gas
used for the purpose of above 5) should contain not more oxygen than 0.1 %.
Before loading is started, inert gas sample from the tanks and pipings
should be analyzed. When VCM (Vinyl chloride) is carried, a positive pressure
should always be maintained in the tanks.
8) Only one product can be carried at a time and no provisions for segregation of
different products are fitted.
9) The content of Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) in the cargoes should be nil or

as little as possible in respect of its SSCC (Sulfide Stress Corrosion Cracking ),
which is to cause and develop cracking especially on the welding joints in the tanks
under the condition of the H2S and water / moisture environment, because it is
reported that cracking could occur under the H2S condition of even less than
50 ppm depending upon other condition, although the less than 50 ppm
might seem to be generally accepted as the criteria. In this regards,
it is recommended that the attention should be taken to check the inside of
the tanks by appropriate Non Destructive Testing as periodically
as practically depending on the environmental conditions of SSCC.

Pressure indicator and zenner barrier are fitted up to the cargo monitoring panel

Three(3) temperature gauges are fitted on each tank dome to measure

the temperature in the tank.
One of their measuring parts is located at the height of about 230 ～ 430 mm (Lower)
above the inside surface of the tank bottom. Another temperature gauge are located at
the height of about 6160 ～ 6360 mm (Middle), 11870 ～ 12070mm (Vapor),
above the inside surface of the tank bottom.
The contact of temperature gauge at lower part is set at the dangerous temperature limits
of the tank ( the upper limit 45 ℃, and the lower limit -10 ℃).
When the cargo temperature lowers to -10 ℃ and higher to 45 ℃, the alarm buzzer
to the cargo monitoring panel in the cargo control room sounds.
On occasion of the warning signal at the upper limit 45℃, the tank should be immediately
cooled down with the sprinkler system, and on occasion at the lower limit -10 ℃,
the cargo loading should be immediately stopped.
The sound of buzzer is stopped by pushing the buzzer stop button switch on the monitoring
panel.

CAUTION
These thermometers are very important for the measurement of cargo weight.
It is necessary to calibrate within proper interval.

3. 「 CAUTION 」 items as follows shall be observed strictly.
a) These tanks are, as shown in final documents, made of high tensile QT steel,
and welded under proper heat control. Consequently repairing works should be performed
according to the advices of our firm.
Any plates or pieces should not be newly attached on the tank bodies by welding
without our permission when the vessel is in dock for the periodic survey or repair.
b) The rapid temperature change on the tank itself shall be prohibited.

For instance, when large quantity of liquid or vapor is charged rapidly into the tank
under low pressure condition, the tank will be cooled rapidly by rapid evaporation of
liquid or expansion of vapor. This kind of affection by temperature change should be avoided.
Consequently, much attention should be paid to the first loading of cargo at the first voyage
or after docking.
c) In case that the manhole of tank is to be opened for repairing, first the tank cargo
should be replaced with inert gases such as nitrogen, and second,
the inert gas should be replaced with air, and finally the repairing work should be carried out.
After repairing work, the inside of tank should be carefully cleaned and ascertained
there's no dust or the likes remaining inside tank before closing the manhole. And,
after having closed the manhole, the air tightness of these parts should be checked.
After that, air should be replaced with inert gas, and then, cargo vapor should be charged.
d) The safety valves of the tank are set to act at 17.65 bar g (1.765MPa g).
The pressure and temperature of the tank during loading, unloading and navigation should be
checked to keep the actual pressure underthe setting pressure.
e) A sprinkler system of sea water is mounted on the tank to keep the cargo temperature inside
the tank from rising. When the temperature rising is observed in summer (this means
the increase of tank pressure), the sprinkler system should be used at any time needed to
prevent such temperature rise.

f) All setting bolts of tank stopper are with one spring. The effective height of this spring
is 60 mm at the cargo tank ballast condition. All nuts shall be tightened with keeping
the height of 60 mm. This condition of setting bolts should be checked periodically.
And it is necessary there is a clearance between the wooden liner and the horizontal
stopper plate. When the cargo tank was installed on-board, this clearance was made
with 10～15 mm.

This device is installed at the inlet of the cargo compressor in order to

separate mist and dust contained in vapor by the effects of centrifugal force and the demister.
One thermo-switch is fitted on the Mist Separator, and this switch operates
at the vapor temperature below 0 ℃ to sound the buzzer on the cargo monitoring
panel in the cargo control room and automatically stop the cargo compressor.
One level switch is fitted on the Mist Separator, and this switch is equipped with the float
switch which has a function of the warning single in the cargo control room, to stop the cargo
compressor automatically. (refer to 3-13)
The sound of the buzzer is stopped by pushing the buzzer stop button on
the cargo monitoring panel.

CAUTION
The remaining drain in the Mist Separator shall be discharged without fail by
opening the drain valve before start of cargo compressor and after stop of cargo
compressor, and no remaining drain shall be confirmed.
And, at the periodic overhaul of the compressor, the cleaning of demister fitted
inside the Mist Separator shall be performed.

Cargo Heater is installed at the starboard side of No.2 cargo-tank for heating cargo liquid
of Propylene, Propane, B/P mixtures, Butane, Butylene, Butadiene, and V.C.M.
In case the cargo liquid of low temperature is charged from the onshore base
to the tanks onboard, the cargo should be heated up to -10 ℃ using
this Cargo Heater before loading, because the cargo with a temperature below -10 ℃
is not to be loaded into the cargo tanks.
Maximum cargo flow rate through cargo heater shall be limited to 550 m3 /h.
Cargo liquid is heated by the Cargo Heater utilizing sea water.
Two thermometers are fitted at both the cargo inlet and the cargo outlet nozzle.
The cargo outlet thermometer operates for alarming at the cargo temperature below
-10 ℃ to close the emergency shut off valve, so the cargo handling operation stops
automatically.
And two thermometers are fitted at both the sea water inlet and the outlet nozzle.
The sea water outlet thermometer operates for alarming at the sea water temperature
below 6 ℃.
The flow switch of sea water is located at the sea water flow gauge box near the cargo
heater, and operates at the flow rate below 600 m３/h to alarm on the cargo monitoring panel
in the cargo control room.

The hand operation valve is installed at the outlet and inlet of the Cargo Heater.
The temperature of the cargo loaded into the tanks can be controlled by operating these
valves.
Before operating the cargo heater, the flow of sea water should be confirmed.
Reference should be made to the manufacturer's instruction manual.

Gas detecting vessel for cargo heater
The gas leakage from the damaged tube, etc. in the cargo heater should be checked
by using the gas detecting vessel.
When there is gas leakage, “HEATER GAS LEAKAGE” lamp on

the cargo monitoring panel flickers with an alarm.
The sea water inlet valve shall be kept “OPEN” normally.
While using the cargo heater, to confirm the level of sea water is the same as
the height of the seawater outlet nozzle and lower than the middle of the level gauge.
After used the gas detecting vessel, it should be washed by the fresh water.

a) Countermeasure in case the gas leakage is found
Case 1 : In case the gas leakage is found while using the cargo heater
The diffusion of the leaked gas which will be discharged overboard with the sea water
shall be stopped as soon as possible according to the next steps.
Step. 1 To stop loading.
Step. 2 To close gradually (slightly open) the cargo inlet valve [LL7] of cargo heater.
Step. 3 To close the cargo outlet valve [L8] of cargo hater.
If the cargo side pressure in cargo heater increases rapidly, this valve [L8]
should be opened slightly to control the internal pressure.
However the cargo side pressure shall be kept higher than
the sea water side pressure.
Step. 4 To close the sea water valve in the upstream side for the cargo heater.
Never make the seawater flow backward from the cargo heater
to the sea water pump.
Step. 5 To stop the sea water pump.
Step. 6 To open the sea water drain valves, and to discharge the sea water remaining
in the cargo heater completely.
At this time, since the leaked gas will be exhausted with the sea water,
the drain hose should be used as necessary.

Step. 7 To discharge the remaining cargo through the drain valve or the vent valve
completely.
Step. 8 To confirm that the cargo vapor does not enter near the sea water pump
( engine room ) though the sea water piping.
If the cargo vapor is found in the sea water piping near the sea water pump,
never operate the sea water pump since there is a danger that the cargo vapor
ignites by the metal contact between the pump body, rust, etc.
The cargo vapor in the sea water piping shall be purged by using the nitrogen gas.
(( Identify the damaged points and temporary repair ))

Step. 9 To inert in the cargo heater by replacing the air/cargo mixture to the nitrogen gas.
Step.10 To open the covers of sea water chamber of cargo heater.
Step.11 To pressurize the cargo side by the nitrogen gas up to around 5 bar g,
and to do soapsuds test for each tubes or the welded parts of tube sheet and tubes.
In case it’s found that some tubes are damaged, the plugs which were supplied
as spare parts are hammered in the tubes.
And in case it’s found that the welded parts on the tube sheets are damaged,
the repair is so difficult onboard and then to contact the maker.

Case 2 : In case the gas leakage is found during the resting state of cargo heater
The sea water chambers and the sea water piping are filled with the leaked cargo vapor.
Since there is a possibility that the cargo vapor enters near the sea water pump
through the sea water piping, never operate the sea water pump.
as mentioned above.
The diffusion of leaked gas shall be stopped as soon as possible according to
the next steps.
Step. 1 To confirm whether the cargo vapor enters near the sea water pump or not.
If the cargo vapor was found in the sea water piping near the sea water pump,
never operate the sea water pump since there is a danger that the cargo vapor
ignites by the metal contact between the pump body, rust, etc.
The cargo vapor in the sea water piping shall be purged by using the nitrogen gas.
Step. 2 To confirm that the sea water valve in the upstream side for the cargo heater is
the close condition, or to close its valve completely.
Step. 3 To confirm that the cargo inlet valve [LL7] and the cargo outlet valve [L8] are
the closed condition.
Step. 4 To inert in the cargo heater by replacing the air/cargo mixture to the nitrogen gas.
Step. 5 To open the covers of sea water chamber of cargo heater.
Step. 6 To pressurize the cargo side by the nitrogen gas up to around 5 bar g,
and to do soapsuds test for each tubes or the welded parts of tube sheet to tubes.
In case it’s found that some tubes are damaged, the plugs which were supplied

The maximum loading capacity to which a cargo handling plant may be loaded
is shown on the next table.

(5) Cautions before Start of Cargo Pump
In case there is no cargo liquid in the cargo tank, the cargo pump shall not be operated.
If the cargo pump is operated without the cargo, the cargo pump becomes on
the dry-running condition, and breaks down. Therefore a sufficient care must be paid.
The next items shall be carried out before the start of cargo pump.
a) To confirm the refrigerator oil is filled fully in the sight glass fitted to
the pressure booster.
b) To confirm the piston fitted on the pressure booster is at middle level
between MIN. and MAX.
c) To confirm the sealing pressure is 0.5 to 1.4 bar above the tank pressure.
d) To confirm the sufficient grease is supplied to the upper bearing housing.
e) To confirm there is no leakage from various pipes and valves connected to
the cargo pump.
f) To confirm the valves inserted in the oil circulating piping are fully opened.
g) To turn the shaft by hand and confirm of its smooth turning. ( Clockwise
looking from motor )
h) To confirm the valve fitted at the discharge nozzle of cargo pump
is fully closed. ( But, just before the start of cargo pump, this valve
shall be set to the open condition with the valve handle of 1/8 revolution. )

i) To confirm all valves open, which are in the pipeline between the cargo
pump and the receiving tank.
j) Not to restart the cargo pump ,when the liquid level of tank is below 900mm
in order to prevent the mechanical seal and the carbon bearing from being damaged.
Not to operate without the cargo in the cargo tank for anti-seizing of the bearing.
k) Do not operate the cargo pump if there is not liquid in the cargo tank.
Note : Continuously repeated operation for start and stop more than three times
shall be avoided to protect the conpen transformer from being burned out.
Before next starting, minimum one hour interval is necessary for cooling.

(6) Cautions during pump operation
The next items shall be confirmed after start of cargo pump.

The cargo pump is operated under the normal revolution and the torque from
about 10 seconds after start of cargo pump.
a) To open the discharge valve gradually to get the desired discharge pressure.
CAUTION – OVER LOAD CURRENT STOP

“ Safety device to protect the cargo pump under the over load condition “
When the cargo pump is operated above its rated current ( 286A ) or
when the cargo pump becomes to the over load condition by any trouble of
its rotating parts, the cargo pump stops automatically after 1 (one) seconds.

A bearing temperature of above 50 ℃ plus ambient is an abnormal condition

CAUTION – UNDER CURRENT STOP

“ Safety device to protect the cargo pump under the dry running condition “
When the pump is operated below the under current of about 90 A,

the cargo pump stops automatically after 5 seconds.
The actual setting current should be determined by the actual pump operation.
The setting of this under current is adjusted by the yellow pointer of ammeter
fitted on the starter panel in the engine room.

(4) Cautions before start of compressor
The next items shall be carried out before start of compressor.
a) To confirm the lubrication oil in the compressor crank case is filled

up to the red line in the sight glass.
b) To confirm the sufficient grease is supplied.
c) To confirm all vales open, which are in the related pipeline, especially
the inlet and outlet valves of compressor must be fully opened.
d) To turn the compressor shaft few times by hand ensure that it rotates smoothly.
e) To confirm the by-pass ( light load ) valve open.
f) To open the drain valve fitted on the cylinder ( suction side ) ensure
that there is no drain in the cylinder. And to close the drain valve.
g) To open the drain valves fitted on the Mist Separator and Knock-out Drum
and drain out. And to close the drain valve.
If the system is not drained correctly or if liquid enters the cylinders due to
incorrect valve operation allowing liquid compression a serious accident will
result. There sufficient care must be exercised.

(5) Cautions during compressor operation
The next items shall be confirmed after start of compressor.
a) To confirm the cooling water flows sufficiently at the sight glass fitted on
the top of compressor. Necessary cooling water rate is 1.5～2 m３/hr.
b) To continue no-load running of compressor for at least 5 minute at

the condition of by-pass ( light load ) valve open.
c) To close the by-pass ( light load ) valve gradually to load running.
d) To confirm no abnormal noise and/or vibration.
e) To confirm the lubrication oil pressure is kept within the green marked area.
f) To confirm the suction pressure and the differential pressure.

Normally, the cargo compressor can be operated with a double action ( 100%
loaded condition ). However, if the differential pressure at each suction
pressure exceeds the maximum value shown in the following table,
the operating condition of cargo compressor shall be changed to a single
action ( 50% loaded condition ) by throttling the unloader valve ① and ②.
Reference is made how to use the unloader in the maker's instruction manual.
In case this operation is not carried out, the cargo compressor becomes
to the over-loaded condition and this leads to serious accident, and
therefore the sufficient care shall be paid.

Suction pressure : Ps Maximum differential pressure at double action

5 bar g ＜ Ps ≦ 7 bar g 6 bar
Continuously, during operating with a single action, if the differential pressure becomes
over 7 bar at any suction pressure, the cargo compressor shall be stopped.
In case these operations are not performed, the cargo compressor becomes to the over-load condition
and this leads to serious accident, and therefore the sufficient care shall be paid.
(6) Cautions after stop of compressor

The next items shall be carried out after stop of compressor.
a) To close the inlet and outlet valves of compressor fully.
b) To open the drain valve fitted on the cylinder ensure that there is no drain in the
cylinder. And to close drain valve.
(7) Maintenance
a) Not later than total operation time of 50 hours from the initial operated time of
cargo compressor, the compressor oil should be renewed.
And at each interval(750 hours), the compressor oil should be renewed.
b) In case the cargo compressor is not operated over one month period, the cargo
compressor should be operated at the no-load condition with the by-pass valve open.
c) At the periodic dock, the drain piping with the stop valve and/or vent piping
with the non-return valve should be checked about without clogging.
d) Fill a proper quantity of antifreeze solution into cooling fresh water,
in order to avoid cylinder jacket , etc from cracking caused by water freezing.

3-9. HYDRAULIC PUMP for EMERGENCY SHUT OFF VALVE
Refer to the drawing of hydraulic pump unit on the next page.
This hydraulic pump unit is used for the open and shut of the emergency shut down valves.
The electric hydraulic unit is installed in the store area ENGINE ROOM.
Start/stop push button switch is mounted on the starter panel for
the hydraulic unit, and on the monitoring panel in the cargo control room as remote push
button switch with green lamp for running indication.
And the electric hydraulic unit provides one solenoid valve and one accumulator.

indicated on the cargo monitoring panel in the cargo monitor room.
When the oil pressure becomes below 30 bar g, the alarm sounds on the cargo

When the oil pressure becomes below 20 bar g, the emergency shut off valves close
automatically. Of cause the cargo apparatus are stopped automatically.
The horn sounds and the red lamp actuates on the compass deck.
This alarm function can be become void by select switch, by setting on
NAVI (Navigation) side.

One float switch is fitted up to the oil tank, and this switch operates
at the oil low level of 180 mm in the oil tank to sound the buzzer on the
cargo monitoring panel in the cargo monitor room, and
to stop the oil pump automatically.
The sound of buzzer is stopped by pushing the buzzer stop button switch
on the monitoring panel.

(6) Normal operation
Before the electric oil pump is operated to open the emergency shut down valves,
to be confirmed the oil return valve (A) is closed completely.
The start-stop buttons fitted on the cargo monitoring panel or the starter panel
are used to operate the hydraulic pump unit.
The emergency shut down valves open over the oil pressure of 20 bar g.
The electric hydraulic pump stops automatically by the timer of 1 minutes from
start. But the manual stop is better.
The operating pressure of oil piping is controlled to the maximum pressure of
40 bar g by the relief valve ⑤. Therefore, Never to remove the relief valve ⑤
unless it is to be maintained or repaired.
In case the emergency shut down valves are closed, this oil return valve (A) is
used to collect the oil into the oil tank.
After decreasing the oil pressure, this oil return valve (A) shall be closed.
(7) At emergency stop condition
In case the cargo handling system becomes to the emergency stop condition,
the emergency shut down valves close.
The oil is collected into the oil tank by opening of the solenoid valve ⑩ through
oil return valve (B) → strainer ⑨ → solenoid valve ⑩ → oil tank ①.
The closing speed of emergency shut down valves charges depending on

the oil return speed.
The closing speed of emergency shut down valves are adjusted by the opening
degree of oil return valve (B).

3-10. SAMPLING CONNECTION
(1) Location of sampling nozzle
Three sampling nozzles with PF1/2 thread are fitted up to the valve dome on the top of tank,
and the sampling level of each is as follows.
C1 100 mm from the tank bottom

The sampling nozzles with PF1/2 thread are fitted up the pressure gauge branch
at the discharge line of the cargo pump.

(2) Closed sampling system
The sampling branch is fitted on the discharge nozzle of cargo pump as showing above, and
the sampling return branch ( sampling nozzle) is fitted on the valve dome.
If necessary, the cargo pump is operated, the liquid is collected in the sampling
bottle and the excess liquid is returned to the cargo tank from the sampling nozzle.

(3) Sampling procedure
( Refer to the SIGTTO Report of a working group on liquefied gas sampling procedures. )
The sampling work should be performed with due regard to the follows.
a) In all cases purging, venting or making empty of sample bottle and sample hoses must
be carried out in a safe area with due regard to the wind or weather, etc.
b) In case the toxic cargo such as VCM, butadiene is pulled out, the venting of the cargo
to the atmosphere should be avoided and a closed sampling system should be used.
c) In case the cargo leaks or spills from any connections, the sampling hose or others,
all valves which are using for the sampling shall be closed immediately.
d) The ship’s responsible person such as the chief officer should be confirmed that
the sampling bottle, the sampling hose or any thread are compatible with the ship’s
sampling points, and that the condition of sampling bottle or any other equipments
are suitable.
e) In all cases, the necessary outfits such as the protective cloths, gloves, goggles and
breathing apparatus should be prepared.
f) The ship’s responsible person such as the chief officer should be present at the sampling
operation, and should be fully conversant with all aspect of the ship’s sampling system
including the operational characteristic of all valves, and should be recognize that
his duty is to ensure that sampling is authorized and carried out in a safe manner, regardless
of who is actually performing the sampling operation.

And thus, only reading the numerical value on the indicator is enough to check
the height of the liquid level.

This liquid level gauge is fitted on the valve dome.

The height from the inside surface of the tank bottom up to the liquid level
is simultaneously indicated on the indicator fitted on the cargo tank and

And thus, only reading the numerical value on the indicator is enough to check
the height of the liquid level.

(3) High-high and high level alarm switch

Type M-TMS
Alarm level 11744 mm (98% level) with emergency stop
11328 mm (96% level)
This level switch has a function of the liquid surface high-high level warning
signal and high level warning signal. It provides two reed switches.
Accordingly, in case that the level rises up and reaches 96 % level, this switch
automatically operates and makes the buzzer of the cargo monitoring panel sound.
High-high level warning is interlocked with
the emergency shut off valves to
close automatically through the solenoid
valve of the hydraulic line, and
the cargo apparatus to automatic stop.
That is a warning signal.
The sound of the buzzer is stopped by
pushing a buzzer stop button switch on
the cargo tank monitoring panel.

Lamp Functions and ( Countermeasure )
HIGH-HIGH When the cargo liquid level reaches to 11744 mm (98 % volume level
LEVEL of cargo tank), this lamp lights with an alarm.
(11744mm)
This high-high level warning signal is interlocked to close
the emergency shut off valve and to stop the cargo apparatus
automatically.
This emergency stop condition can be isolated by the select switches

CS-S1 & 2 fitted inside the cargo monitoring panel, by setting on
CANSEL position.
But only this lamp lights and with an alarm.
These switches shall be controlled by Master with a key.
(Countermeasure at over-filling)
When the cargo tank is loaded more than 98 % volume level,
1. Set the select switches CS-S1 & 2 on CANCEL position.

2. Turn the RESET SWITCH.
3. Pressurize the operation oil of emergency shut off valves and
open the emergency shut off valves.
4. Start the cargo pump and discharge the over-loaded cargo.
HIGH LEVEL When the cargo liquid level reaches to 11328 mm (96 % volume level of
(11328mm) cargo tank), this lamp lights with an alarm.

HIGH TEMP. When the cargo tank temperature rises and reaches to 45 ℃,
(45℃) this lamp lights with an alarm.
LOW TEMP. When the cargo tank temperature drops and reaches to -10 ℃,
(-10℃) this lamp lights with an alarm.
HIGH PRESS. When the cargo tank pressure rises and reaches to 15.9 bar g,
(15.9bar) this lamp lights with an alarm.
The safety valve fitted on the cargo are normally set to 17.65 bar g.
SAFETY V. SET PRESS. (17.65 bar g) lights at this condition.
LOW PRESS. When the cargo tank pressure drops and reaches to 0.05 bar g,
(0.05bar) this lamp lights with an alarm.
FLASH When the safety valve fitted on the cargo piping blows and the cargo liquid
TANK in the flash tank reaches to 150 mm height, this lamp lights with an alarm.
HIGH LEVEL
This flash tank high level warning signal is interlocked to close
automatically.
This emergency stop condition can become void by

the select switch CS-EC fitted inside the cargo monitoring panel,
by setting on CANCEL position.
But only this lamp lights and with an alarm.
STARTER When the cargo handling system should become to the emergency stop
EMERG condition at the high-high level, etc., this lamp lights with
TRIP an alarm.
At the emergency stop, the solenoid valve opens, and

the oil pressure of emergency shut off valves drops.

ABNORMAL stop, or booster pump stops automatically by the over-load, under current

FOR ESDV
At the emergency stop, this solenoid valve opens, and

UNIT reaches to 180 mm height, this lamp lights with an alarm.
LOW LEVEL
ESDV When the oil pressure drops and reaches to 20 bar g,

LOW PRESS.
(20 bar) The emergency shut off valves close automatically below
the oil pressure of 20 bar g. Of course the cargo apparatus
are stopped automatically.
However this alarm function can become void by SELECT SWITCH fitted
on the front cover of cargo monitoring panel, by setting on NAVI
(Navigation) side.
During a cargo handling operation, this witch shall be kept on

CARGO side.

ESDV When the oil pressure drops and reaches to 30 bar g,

Switch Functions
SELECT In case of setting on CARGO, all alarm functions work.
SWITCH In case of setting on NAVI (Navigation) and STANDBY, the alarm function
of oil low pressure of emergency shut off valve is canceled.
Before cargo handling start, SELECT SWITCH shall be set on STANDBY

side to rise the oil pressure of emergency shut off valves.
After rising the oil pressure of emergency shut off valves at 40 bar g,
SELECT SWITCH shall be set on CARGO side.
Therefore during a cargo handling operation, this witch shall be
kept on CARGO side.
EMERG. By pushing this button, the cargo handling system becomes to
HAND STOP the emergency stop condition with to close the emergency shut off
and to stop the cargo apparatus automatically.
In case of pushing this button, the next lamps light with an alarm.
SOL. VALVE OPEN FOR ESDV
ESDV OPE. OIL LOW PRESS (20 bar)
STARTER EMERG TRIP
The cargo handling system returns to the normal condition by next steps.
- Push RESET SWITCH.
- SOL. VALVE OPEN FOR ESDV is cancelled.
- Operate the oil pump unit and open the emergency shut off valves.
- ESDV OPE. OIL LOW PRESS (20 bar) is put out.
- Push RESET SWITCH again.
- STARTER EMERG TRIP is put out.
CAUTION : Never use this emergency hand stop button except

in case an emergency condition.
Never use each time, after complete of cargo operation.

Switch Functions
RESET This switch is used for two purpose as follows.
SWITCH 1) to cut off the open signal to the solenoid valve
2) to cut off the stop signal of cargo pumps and compressors
In the event of an abnormal condition such as high-high level alarm,

the alarm cannot be cancelled or overridden until the cause of the alarm
has been rectified.
LAMP This is a test switch for the buzzer and the lamps.
BUZZER
TEST In case of turning right, the buzzer will sound at normal.
In case of turning left, all lamps will light at normal.
FUNCTION This is a test switch of circuits in the panel.
TEST
In case of being at the normal condition, all lamps will flicker and
the buzzer will sound.
If any lamps do not flicker, the circuits including those lamps
are at abnormal.
BUZZER This is a buzzer stop switch.
STOP
By pushing this button, the buzzer tops, and the lamp becomes continuous
lighting until the abnormal condition recovers to the normal condition.
CARGO HTR In case of setting ON side, all cargo heater’s alarm functions work.
MODE But when setting on OFF side, alarm function is canceled.
ESDV OIL By pushing this button, the oil pressure of emergency shut off valves
RELEASE can be reduced.
In case of setting on STANDBY, the oil pressure of emergency shut off

valves can not be reduced.
In case of setting on NAVI, the oil pressure of emergency shut off valves
will be reduced automatically.

Lamp Functions
RL1 This is an alarm lamp of OVER LOAD CURRENT STOP.
When the cargo pump is operated above its rated current ( 286 A ) or
when the cargo pump becomes to the over load condition ( this means
the motor becomes to an over-heat condition ) by any trouble of its rotating
parts, the cargo pump stops automatically after 1 (one) second.

When the cargo pump is started under the high torque by the heavier cargo, or
the short supply of voltage or the current, or the circuit damage,
the cargo pump stops automatically after about 20 seconds from start.

When the cargo pump is operated below the under current of 90 A,
the cargo pump stops automatically after 5 seconds.
RL4 This is an alarm lamp of MOTOR HIGH TEPERATURE STOP.

When thermister relay fitted inside the panel becomes to the abnormal high
temperature, the cargo pump stops automatically.
PBRE This is a reset switch for automatic stop.

When the cargo pump stops automatically by any reason of RL1 ～ RL4,
it’s necessary to push this button so as to start again.
METER Black pointer - This pointer shows the actual current.

RELAY Yellow pointer - This pointer sets the current of UNDER CURRENT STOP.
WL This is a source lamp.

During the source is being supplied, this lamp lights.
SH/OL This is ON-OFF switch of space heater.
PB2/GL This is a start switch of cargo pump.

PB1 This is a stop switch of cargo pump.
Never use these switches.
These switches can be used only in case the discon. switch (SW-T) on TEST
and the discon. switch (main switch of starter) is set on OFF.

In case this switch is set on TEST and the discon. Switch (main switch of starter) is kept to OFF

3-14. WATER SPRINKLER SYSTEM
This system is fitted to cool down the tank body.

The tank should be cooled before the liquid temperature gets to the dangerous temperature
(45 ℃).
Its operation shall be made as follows, that is, operating the water sprinkler system of the vessel,
and then opening the stop valve fitted up at the starboard side of the tank.
According to above operation, cooling water spray can be obtained from all the sprinkler
nozzles.

Spray capacity : 25 litter/m2 min. at 2.0 bar
Nozzle quantity : 90 pieces for each cargo tank
After its use, the water remaining inside piping should be discharged by opening
the drain valve near the stop valve.
3-15. WATER SPRAY SYSTEM
This system is fitted up to save person's life covering the tank body and
the loading manifold with the water curtain in case of emergency, such as the occasion of a fire.
The quantity of the water is more than 10 liters/ ㎡ per minute for horizontal projected
surface as shown in IGC code.
Its operation shall be made as follows, that is, operating the water spray pump of the vessel.

3-16. HYDRAULIC EMERGENCY SHUT OFF VALVE
Manufacturer : MIYAIRI VALVE MFG CO., LTD.
Hydraulic emergency shut off valves are mounted at the discharge part of
each deep well pump, outside of the tank at penetrating part of the liquid lines,
vapor line, and at the cargo handling manifold of liquid and vapor lines.
a) Operation by electric hydraulic unit
Refer to 3-8. HYDRAULIC PUMP for EMERGENCY SHUT OFF VALVE
1) For opening the shut off valves
First, to close the return valve (A) of the hydraulic piping fitted
on electric hydraulic unit, and secondly, to open stop valve of
oil hydraulic piping fitted near each tank dome and at the manifold.
As occasion arises, the stop valves of the oil hydraulic piping can be differently used
as follows

The hydraulic pump starts its operation by the start push button switch mounted
on the control panel for the hydraulic unit, or on the cargo monitoring panel.
Then oil pressure rises. The pressure is conveyed to each shut off valve to open
it through the oil pressure line.
The working pressure is 30 ～ 40 bar g. When the oil pressure rises up to 40 bar g,
a relief valve mounted on the oil pump unit operates to maintain this pressure
automatically.
Then, after 1 minutes later from the pump start, the timer-relay of hydraulic pump
starter is conveyed to pump motor to stop. However, the pump shall be stopped by
the stop button switch.
2) For closing the shut off valves
To open the return valve (A) of the hydraulic unit to return the oil, sent out into the oil
pressure line, to an oil tank of the hydraulic unit through this valve.
When the oil pressure lowers, the shut off valves close automatically by the force of
the spring fitted in the valve body.
The return valve should be closed after the oil returns to the oil tank.
CAUTION
For the emergency close by the high-high level alarm signal and the emergency
hand stop signal, the closing time of shut off valves shall be controlled by setting the
opening of return speed control valve (B) fitted on the electric hydraulic unit.
As the IGC code requires the closing time shall not be over 30 seconds,
the actual closing speed of each shut off valves should be within 20 ～ 25 seconds.

b) For emergency
Oil relief valves are fitted near the gauge box on the tank (H18, H19),
manifold (H13, H14) .
When the valve is closed for emergency, the oil in the oil pressure line spouts out of
the pipe and the oil pressure lowers and then the shut off valves are closed
automatically.
When oil pressure doesn't rise by an accident to hydraulic pump or a damage of piping
devices, the shut off valves can be opened by turning a top handle of them.
CAUTION
The handles should be operated only at an emergency because shut off valves will
not shut off automatically after the use of the handle.
A fuse plug is fitted at every oil pressure piping joint of the shut off valve.
In case of a fire, the fuse plug melts, oil pressure lowers, and the shut off valves close
automatically.
The melting temperature of the fuse plug is 98 ～104 ℃.

3-17. SAFETY VALVE

1) Pressure relief system of cargo tanks
The following safety valves are fitted up to each cargo tank.

The lamp of set pressure(17.65 bar g) is indicated on cargo monitoring panel in cargo
control room.
On the catwalk of cargo tank (No.1 and No.2) near the safety valves, there are also
sign plates indicating the set pressure of safety valve(17.65 bar g).
The seal wire of safety valve which was attached by the Classification, shall not
removed or cut until the vessel’s periodic survey.
The remarks for ※ marked item ;
The maximum loading rate is applicable when the vapor return line is available during
the loading.
When the vapor return line is not available, the loading rate will decrease for the pressure
increasing of cargo tank under the influence of a loaded cargo temperature or internal
pressure of cargo tank, etc. In this case, be careful with the pressure increasing,
and consider the counter-plan such as reducing the loading rate, etc.
Anyway, the safety valves have an enough relieving capacity for all cargoes.

2) Gas purge procedure in main valve dome of pilot-operated safety valve
Steps
1. Reduce the cargo tank pressure.
2. Confirm the cargo tank pressure.
3. Fit the field test unit to the field test valve (V3) as showing above drawing.
4. Confirm the flow regulating valve (V1) and the exhaust valve (V2) are closed.
5. Open (V3) and confirm the pressure in the main valve dome.
6. Open the exhaust valve (V4) fitted on the main dome, and reduce the pressure
in the main dome with the exhaust speed below 2 bar per 10 seconds, stop exhausting
at the pressure of at least 1 bar above the cargo tank pressure, and close (V4).
7. Open the stop valve of nitrogen bottle by which the handle of regulator is on free.
8. Control the regulator, and fix the second side pressure within 15 ～ 18 bar g.
9. Open (V1), and fill a nitrogen gas in the main dome with a pressurizing speed below
2 bar per 10 seconds, and stop pressurizing at the pressure of 15 bar g.
10. Repeat the steps from 6 (exhausting) to 9 (filling nitrogen gas) more than 5 times.
11. Open (V4), and reduce the pressure in the main dome until 10 bar g and stop.
12. Close (V4) and (V3) valves.
13. Close the stop valve of nitrogen bottle.
14. Open (V2), and exhaust the remaining nitrogen gas in the hose.
15. Take off the field test unit.
CAUTION : Except incase of purging in the main dome, (V4) valve shall not be opened.

3) Field test procedure of pilot-operated safety valve
Steps
Refer to the maker’s instruction manual.
1. Confirm the cargo tank pressure is 0 bar g.
2. Fit the field test unit to the field test valve (V3) as showing above drawing.
3. Confirm the flow regulating valve (V1) and the exhaust valve (V2) are closed.
4. Open (V3) and confirm the pressure in the safety valve.
5. Open (V2) and reduce the pressure in the safety valve with an exhausting speed
below 2 bar per 10 seconds until an atmospheric pressure, and close (V2).
6. Open the stop valve of nitrogen bottle by which the handle of regulator is on free.
7. Control the regulator, and fix the second side pressure within 19 ～ 20 bar g.
8. Open (V1), pressurize with a pressurizing speed below 2 bar per 10 seconds,
and confirm the relieving pressure 17.66 bar g.
At the relieving pressure, the nitrogen gas blows from the vent pipe fitted on
the pilot valve housing.
9. Repeat the steps from 5 (exhausting) to 8 (pressurizing) more than 3 times.
10. Open (V2), and reduce the pressure in the main dome, and stop exhausting at the pressure of
10 bar g.
11. Close (V3) valve.
12. Close the stop valve of nitrogen bottle.
13. Open (V2), and exhaust the remaining nitrogen gas in the hose.
14. Take off the field test unit.

As the cargo pumps and compressors shall not be operated actually,
The start buttons of cargo pumps and compressors shall not be pushed.
PROCEDURE B ( At docking survey )
This procedure is included the check items which the cargo pumps and compressors
are stopped automatically by any alarm condition.
Before checking of alarm system, the test circuit should be made in each starter
panel of cargo pumps and compressors in order to demonstrate a dummy running of
cargo pumps and compressors.
The cargo pumps and compressors can not operate actually by the test circuit
in each starter panel.

“ ON “ position. Because the cargo pump becomes to the dry running
condition.
Step 2. Set the discon. switches ( SW-T ) fitted inside each panels to “ TEST “ position.

CHAPTER 4.
INERTING AND PURGING
4-1
4-1. GENERAL
The term " inerting " is generally used for the replacement of air or cargo
vapor by inert gas before loading or gas-freeing respectively, to prevent
the formation of flammable mixtures.
The term " purging " is generally used for the replacement of inert gas of
unacceptable quality or previous cargo vapor by nitrogen or suitable cargo
vapor before loading. The extent of purging and the vapor used will normally
be laid down by the atmosphere required on arrival before loading.
Inerting or purging operations may take place at sea if the ship is suitable
equipped, or in harbor. In either case, the safety of venting cargo vapor to
atmosphere should be considered and any local regulations should be observed.
During inerting or purging, the relevant gas concentrations should be monitored
regularly at different tank conditions to ensure safe concentrations.
NOTE)
Even if inerting and purging can be made with the inert gas, it is only
the LPG ( Propane, Butane and Propylene, etc. ) that can be loaded into
the atmosphere of this inert gas. In case of loading Butadiene, VCM(Vinyl chloride)
and Isoprene, this inert gas should be substituted again with pure nitrogen gas
before the loading to satisfy the " Loading Capacity "
( refer to CHAPTER 2 ) concerning oxygen content, etc.

4-2. INERTING
The purpose of inerting is to prevent formation of vapor/air mixtures with

flammable cargoes.
The tank oxygen content should be checked regularly when inerting from air.
The oxygen concentration after inerting should never exceed 5 % by volume,
but should normally be in the order of 1.5～2 % to allow for uneven distribution.
Much lower conditions may be required for oxygen reactive cargoes
[ ex. butadiene, V.C.M.(Vinyl chloride) ]. When inerting from cargo vapor,
the process should be continued until the cargo vapor concentration is
sufficiently low to prevent formation of flammable mixtures during subsequent
ventilation with air.
4-3. PURGING
The purpose of purging is to prepare tanks for receiving cargoes. The shipboard
inert gas may have to be purged with pure nitrogen for cargo requirements
( e.g. to remove CO2 content, to reduce oxygen content ). Purging with cargo
vapor is therefore necessary before loading.
Cargo vapor for purging should be supplied from shore. The cargo vapor/inert
gas or nitrogen mixture should be sent to a flare stack ashore for safe
disposal. Purging is completed when analysis of vapor samples from the tank
are found to be satisfactory.

4-4. METHODS of INERTING and PURGING
One of the following two basic methods should be adopted.
(a) Stratification ( Displacement )
This makes use of the difference in vapor densities between the gas in
the tank and the inerting or purging vapor.
The inert gas is passed into or vented from the top of the tank and
the heavier gas is passed into or vented from the bottom. A fairly distinct
layer ( or stratum ) is formed between the two gases because of the density
difference. Most hydrocarbons are heavier than inert gas. Nitrogen and inert
gas have almost equal densities but nitrogen is heavier at low temperature.
The amount of inerting or purging vapor used is considerably lower than
with other methods, but the vapor should be introduced at a controlled rate
to prevent turbulence which would disturb the stratification. This method
can be used for all types of tanks, but is more efficient for those with
the least internal structure.
(b) Turbulence ( Dilution, or Mixing )
Large volumes of inerting or purging gas are blown into the tanks and are
mixed with the vapor already existing there. The inerting or purging gas
should be blown in vigorously to reduce the possibility of isolated pockets.

(c) Purging ( or inerting ) procedure
The inerting and purging operation shall be performed on the instruction

of the chief director of base port. And if necessary, the liquid line
or vapor line shall be selected properly.

If the need for entering a cargo tank arises for the purpose of inspection
or repair, first the gas must be purged from that tank with an inert gas
or Nitrogen gas, after the tank inside must be substituted with fresh air.
When entering the cargo tank, measure the oxygen concentration in the tank
and the oxygen concentration of 21 % is the absolute conditions. When working
in the tank for inspection or repair, sufficient ventilation must be
provided at all time.
All gases have the values of permissible threshold concentration ( TLV )

for human body. The TLV value of various gases are as follows.

(c-1) Operation for purging the tank of air
The tank and pipe lines should be purged of air by the inert gas or pure nitrogen before
loading liquefied gas into the tank. (Hereinafter called "air purging")
If the liquefied gas is charged into the tank with air remaining, will be mixed with
the liquefied gas, and will air in the tank generate mixed gases within an inflammable
and explosive limit.
To prevent this danger, the quantity of oxygen in the tank should be kept
below 2 % beforehand.
Especially, for the loading of Butadiene or V.C.M.(Vinyl chloride), the oxygen content
in the inert gas used for the purging work should be decreased to below 0.2 % by volume.
In case you load V.C.M.(Vinyl chloride) to which no or insufficient
inhibitor has been added, any inert gas should contain not more oxygen than 0.1 %.
Before loading is started, inert gas samples from the tanks and piping should be analyzed.
Generally the operation for the air purging should be done by using inert gas or
nitrogen gas of onshore bases according to the following procedure.
Operation procedure ( Stratification )
a) To pass into the nitrogen gas ( inert gas ) through the vapor line
( In case of inert gas : liquid line ).
Nitrogen gas ( inert gas ) shall be introduced at a controlled rate to
prevent turbulence which would disturb the stratification.
b) At the same time of above a), to discharge the air through the liquid line
( in case of inert gas : vapor line ).
If you continue the above condition for about one day, the oxygen
content in the cargo tank will be below 2 %.
Concerning these operations , be sure to receive the tank analysis table
for the oxygen content.
When the air purging works are over, the pressure inside the tank should
be about 0.3 bar g (0.03 MPa g) ( higher than atmospheric pressure )
to keep the outside air from entering into the tank.

Operation procedure ( Turbulence )
a) To charge the tanks with inert gas (nitrogen gas) through the liquid line
( in case of nitrogen gas : vapor line ).
( Tank pressure to be about 1 bar g [0.1MPa g] after charging. )
b) To release the mixed gas of inert gas (nitrogen gas) and air in the tanks to
the air through the vapor line ( in case of nitrogen gas : liquid line).
( Tank pressure to be about 0.2 bar g [0.02MPa g] after releasing. )
c) To charge the tanks with inert gas in the same way as above item a).
d) To release the mixed gas of inert gas and air in the tanks in
the same way as above item b).
If you repeat the above-mentioned operation items a) & b) further
two or three times, the oxygen content in the tanks will be below 2%.
For the loading of Butadiene or V.C.M.(Vinyl Chloride),the repetition
of the operation in the items a) & b) should be made.
Concerning these operations , be sure to receive the tank analysis table
for the oxygen content.
When the air purging works are over, the pressure inside the tank should
be about 0.3 bar g (0.03MPa g) ( higher than atmospheric pressure )
to keep the outside air from entering into the tank.

(c-2) Gas Replacement Operation (to replace inert gas with LPG vapor)
The next works to air purging operation are the gas replacement operation,
which replace the inert gas inside the tank with the LPG vapor to get
the vessel ready to load the cargo at any loading base. When the gas
replacement operations are over, the following conditions are usually required.

Operation procedure.
a) To release the inert gas inside the tank to the atmosphere to attain
the pressure condition of about 0.2 bar g (0.02MPa g) before
the vessel's arrival at a base port.
b) To connect the earth line of the base port with the vessel's earth line.
c) To connect the loading arm of the base port with the vessel's manifold.
d) To purge the loading arm of air.
e) To fill up steadily the tank with vapor through the liquid line.
(Pressure about 2 bar g [0.2MPa g] )
f) To send the mixed gas in the tank to the flare stack of the base through
the vapor lines to incinerate it.
(Pressure about 0.2 bar g [0.02MPa g] ).
(For V.C.M.(Vinyl chloride), follow the instructions of base port's.)

g) To fill up steadily the tank with vapor again through the liquid line.
After having carried out the above-mentioned operation, the gas analysis
should then be made. If the results of the analysis show insufficient
conditions, the operation procedures stated in items e) and f) should be repeated.
The completion of the above mentioned procedures signifies the end of
the operation. However, it is imperative that the vessel's side should
receive a gas analysis table before sailing out. And in case the pressure
of Butadiene and VCM(Vinyl chloride) is low, the loading will sometimes
be carried out with inert gas kept in the tanks to maintain a positive pressure.
(c-3) Gas Purging Operation
Before docking the vessel or repairing the cargo working systems, the gas
should be purged from the cargo working systems with inert gas.
The standard of gas purging operation is regulated customarily as follows.
For works Gas density

Operation procedure.
a) To send the remaining gas inside the tank to the flare stack on shore
through the vapor line for incineration. But in case of Butadiene and
V.C.M.(Vinyl chloride), follow the instructions by the chief directors
at the base port.
(Pressure after exhaustion should be about 0.1 bar g [0.01MPa g] )
b) To fill up the tank with inert gas (nitrogen gas) through the vapor line.
c) To send the mixed gas inside the tanks to the flare stack through
the liquid line to incinerate it. (Pressure about 0.2 bar g [0.02MPa g] )
For Butadiene and V.C.M.(Vinyl chloride), follow the instructions
given by the authorized person of the base port.
(Reference)
The vapor line and the liquid line are sometimes used conversely.
The method of gas incineration while inert gas is continuously fed is
sometimes practiced.
d) To repeat the operation of items b) and c) four or five times.

e) To analyze the gas density.
When the gas density attains the value below 2%, the works concerned at
the base port are completed.
(The vessel may sail out after the receipt of the gas analysis table.)
The vessel then navigates to the destination port while operating its
compressor, sending air into the tanks.
The checking analysis of the final gas density should be carried out by
the responsible person who carries out all repairing works.

PRECAUTIONS
a) The standard values for the vessel's gas-free conditions may be decided
differently by the respective shipyard. Therefore, it is necessary for
the vessel's side to check and consult with the shipyard to determine
the necessary gas-free conditions inside the tank before arrival at the shipyard.
b) In case of not opening the cargo tank (keeping the inert gas inside
the cargo tank), the gas density value as stated in above sub-item a)
should be below 2 ％.
Concerning this density value, it is necessary to arrange with
the shipyard for the same reason as above a).
Before loading a different kind of cargo.
The vapor inside the tanks and the related pipe lines should be purged
with an inert gas.
The standard values for this operation should be checked and consultations
should be held beforehand, if necessary, with the loading port authorities.

CHAPTER 5.
OPERATIONS IN LOADING AND UNLOADING
5-1
CAUTION : The cargo tank shall be maintained in a positive pressure.
The safety valves should be operated as follows
Propylene, Propane
B/P Mixtures,
n-Butane, i-Butane 17.65 bar g (1.765 MPa g)
Butadiene, Butylenes,
V.C.M(Vinyl chloride)
Isoprene, Pentanes

With the operation as stated above, the whole preparatory works

on the vessel's side are completed. At this time, the vessel side should report
to the chief director of the base port that the vessel's preparatory operation
is completed, and receive the next instructions.
Loading of VCM(Vinyl chloride), Butadiene, Isoprene which needs the addition of
polymerization inhibitor, should only be undertaken after sufficient
countermeasures for all situations have been discussed and agreed upon by
base port official(s).
The captain of the vessel must refuse to load the cargo which has not been
prepared for these matters.

5-1. GAS-UP OPEARATION
The typical two procedures are shown as follows.
Procedure A :
The cargo vapor is supplied from the shore to both cargo tanks through the liquid line
slowly, and the nitrogen gas in both cargo tanks is exhausted to the shore through
the vapor line.
This operation is continued until the gas concentration in both cargo tanks reaches
the appropriate condition.
Procedure B :
Before starting the gas-up operation, No.2 cargo tank is pressurized by using
the nitrogen gas until more than the vapor pressure corresponding to the cargo
temperature at -10 degree C of loading cargo.
The cargo liquid is loaded to the pressurized No.2 cargo tank slowly, and
the nitrogen gas is shifted from No.2 cargo tank to No.1 cargo tank until
the pressure of No.1 cargo tank reaches the vapor pressure corresponding to
the cargo temperature at -10 degree C of loading cargo, and the cargo liquid
is loaded to No.1 cargo tank.
The cargo liquid is loaded about 0.5 ～ 1 % of tank volume.
Finally, the nitrogen gas in both cargo tanks is exhausted slowly to the shore through
the vapor line until the gas concentration in both cargo tanks reaches
the appropriate condition.

5-2. LOADING OPEARATION
When the vessel's mooring works are finished, the preparatory works for loading
shall be made in the following order :
(In case of port side manifold loading.)
The loading is performed at any cases as follows.

(1) Preparatory work between the base side and the vessel's.
a) To connect the earth line of the base port with the vessel's earth line.

with the vessel's loading manifold. If necessary, reducers should be used.
c) To purge the loading arm or cargo hose.
In this operation there are two methods, namely

i) to use the inert gas of the base port
ii) to use vapor of the base port or the vessel.
The work should be carried out based on the instructions of the responsible
person of the base, irrespective of the circumstance that whose gas is used
for the operation.
CAUTIONS
In case of exhausting air out of the vent stack of the vessel, the purge
valves (B2, B4, B6) should be handled.
After having finished the above-mentioned operations, the leak test
for the connected part should be done, then the preparatory work on
the vessel's side should be started.

(2) Vessel's preparatory work
a) To confirm the return valve ( A ) closed.

To operate the electric hydraulic pump unit to open the hydraulic emergency
shut off valve. ( To push “start-button switch” mounted on the starter panel or on
the monitoring panel. )
When the oil pressure rises up to 40 bar g (4.0 MPa g), the emergency
shut off valves open.
And then, 1 minute later from pump start, the timer-relay of hydraulic pump
starter works to stop the pump motor automatically.
But manual stop is recommended as a rule.
CAUTIONS
The absence of abnormal pressure change should be ascertained at least
once an hour during the loading works. If the oil pressure should lower than
20 bar g (2.0 MPa g), the hydraulic emergency shut off valve will automatically close,
and consequently, the cargo handling works will not be able to be continued.
b) To open the valves in the following orders, except the L valve and V valve
at the vessel's loading manifold.
1) In case of loading a cargo into No.1 tank

1L2, 1V1, 1V2 → LL3, V4
2L2, 2V1, 2V2 → LL3, V4
CAUTIONS
When operating the valves, the distinction between the valves to be opened
and the valves to be closed should be ascertained, and the degree of opening
and closing should be determined without fail.
The marking plate indicating opening or closing condition of the valves
should be fitted to each valve.

(3) Pressure equalizing operation
To open V7 valve at the vessel's loading manifold steadily ．

In case there is the pressure difference between the vessel's tank
and the base port's tank, both pressure should be equalized before
loading cargo liquid.
CAUTIONS
a) Instead of the pressure equalizing operation stated above (the pressure

equalizing is sometimes made during the loading process), sometimes the liquids
are immediately loaded depending on the kinds of cargoes and the degree of
of pressure difference.
In all cases, consultation with and directives of the authorized base port
official should be followed.
b) If the liquids are rapidly loaded when the vessel's tank pressure is lower
than the base port's pressure, the vessel's tank will be rapidly cooled down and
the cracks may occur on the tank body depending on the degree of cooling.
It is important to keep the tank from being rapidly cooled down,
so an appropriate working process should be taken following the advice of
the chief director of the base port.
When the pressure equalizing works are over, the vessel side should report
the completion of the works to the chief director of the base port and receive
instructions for the next liquid loading.

(4) Loading start
To open the manifold's valve [LL5] steadily and start the loading works of liquid.
CAUTION
The handling of the valve [V7] differs according to pressure equalizing method used.
To ensure against improper handling during the piping valve operation by

checking the noise and pressure in loading the liquids.
(5) Observation on loading works
After start of the loading, changes of pressure, temperature, liquid level, etc.
of vessel's tank should always be observed carefully.
In case any abnormalities are recognized, they should be reported
immediately to the responsible person of the base port, and
adequate measures should be taken in accordance with his instructions.
When the High-high level warning signal system operates, the shut
off valve will close, and then the loading will be stopped. Sufficient care
should be taken to prevent this conditions.
At 96 % of tank volume, the warning alarm sounds.
Also, when the loading liquid level is approaching the prescribed level,
the notice should be given to the chief director of the base port and
the preparation for stopping works should then be undertaken.
When the loading works are over, the next works should be started
in accordance with the instructions of the responsible person of the base port.

(6) Loading works completion
a) To close the manifold's valve [LL5], [V7] steadily.

After the loading works' completion, next, the collection works for
the liquid remaining inside the loading arm and the vessel's liquid line should
be carried out.
The vessel's vapor is usually used for these works.
b) Liquid collection
The procedure is two method as follows.

before the start of liquid collection, the tank pressure on both side
(the base port and the vessel) should be checked. And it is necessary to
determine the procedure with the base port's authorized person.
・ To close V valve on the tank for about 10 ～ 20 minutes before

the completion of loading liquid (not to let the vapor return towards
the base port) and the vapor's accumulations inside the vessel's tank to be
continued until its pressure becomes higher than the base port's by
2 ～ 3 bar g (0.2～0.3 MPa g) .
The accumulated vapor to be sent out through the following routes and
the liquid collection works to be carried out.
・ The vessel's tanks of higher pressure side → The vessel's vapor line
→ Vapor loading arm → Base port's by-pass-line
→ Base port's liquid line → Liquid loading arm → The vessel's liquid line
→ The vessel's tanks
The vapor pressurized by the cargo compressor to be sent out through

the following routes and the liquid collection works to be carried out.
The vessel's tank → The vessel's vapor line → The cargo compressor
(※ caution) → The vessel's vapor line → The vessel's liquid line
→ Liquid loading arm → Base port's liquid line → Base port's tank

CAUTIONS
The operating procedure shall be done according to 3-8.

The example as stated above shows the method applied to one kind of cargo
loading only. For two kinds of cargo loadings, the liquid collection to
the tanks on the side of low pressure may be applied by use of the vapor
on the side of high pressure in a tank of base port or vessel's
( the vapor may be directly supplied from the base port depending on the loading order ).
And also, after loading VCM(Vinyl chloride) and Butadiene, to maintain
positive pressure, nitrogen gas will be filled up into vapor zone.
Whichever side's vapor may be used, the works should be carried out
in accordance with the instructions of the chief director of the base port.

(7) Arrangements after loading works' completion
a) To close the valves concerning the loading works.

When the liquid collection works are over, the valves should be closed to
the following order.
i) To close valves on the tank and valves at the vessel's loading manifold.
ii) To close the hydraulic emergency shut off valve.
The return valve ( A ) mounted on the electric hydraulic pump unit
should be opened and the oil pressure should be ascertained to be
0 bar g (0 MPa g). The return valve should then be closed.
b) To purge the loading arm of cargo vapor.

There are base ports where the inert gas is used for these works or
the release of the vapor pressure is only carried out.
The works should be carried out in accordance with the instructions of
the responsible person of the base port in the way similar to
“ air purging works before loadings”.
c) To remove the loading arm and fit cover flanges on the loading manifold.
d) To remove the earth line.

Case 2 : Using the cargo heater
(1) Preparatory work between the base side and the vessel's.
a) To connect the earth line of the base port with the vessel's earth line.
b) To connect the base loading arm or cargo hose for liquid and vapor loading
with the vessel's loading manifold. If necessary, reducers should be used.
c) To purge the loading arm or cargo hose.
In this operation there are two methods, namely
i) to use the inert gas of the base port

ii) to use vapor of the base port or the vessel.
The work should be carried out based on the instructions of the responsible
person of the base, irrespective of the circumstance that whose gas is used for the operation.
CAUTIONS
In case of exhausting air out of the vent stack of the vessel, the purge
valves (B2, B4, B6) should be handled.
After having finished the above-mentioned operations, the leak test
for the connected part should be done, then the preparatory work on
the vessel's side should be started.

And then, 1 minute later from pump start, the timer-relay of hydraulic pump
starter works to stop the pump motor automatically.
But manual stop is recommended as a rule.
CAUTIONS
The absence of abnormal pressure change should be ascertained at least

once an hour during the loading works. If the oil pressure should lower
lower than 20 bar g (2.0MPa g), the hydraulic emergency shut off valves
will automatically close, and consequently,
the cargo handling works will not be able to be continued.
b) To open the valves in the following orders, except the L valve and V valve
at the vessel's loading manifold.

1L2, 1V1, 1V2 → LL6, LL7, L8, L9,V4
2L2, 2V1, 2V2 → LL6, LL7, L8, L9, V4

CAUTIONS
When operating the valves, the distinction between the valves to be opened
and the valves to be closed should be ascertained, and the degree of opening
and closing should be determined without fail.
The marking plate indicating opening or closing condition of the valves
should be fitted to each valve.
c) To flow the sea water into the cargo heater.

And to confirm the flow rate of sea water is more than 600 m３/h with temperature
of at least 16 ℃.

(3) Pressure equalizing operation
To open V7 valve at the vessel's loading manifold steadily．

In case there is the pressure difference between the vessel's tank
and the base port's tank, both pressure should be equalized before loading cargo liquid.
CAUTIONS
a) Instead of the pressure equalizing operation stated above (the pressure

equalizing is sometimes made during the loading process), sometimes the liquids
are immediately loaded depending on the kinds of cargoes and the degree of
of pressure difference.
In all cases, consultation with and directives of the authorized base port
official should be followed.
b) If the liquids are rapidly loaded when the vessel's tank pressure is lower
than the base port's pressure, the vessel's tank will be rapidly cooled down and
the cracks may occur on the tank body depending on the degree of cooling.
It is important to keep the tank from being rapidly cooled down,
so an appropriate working process should be taken following the advice of
the chief director of the base port.
When the pressure equalizing works are over, the vessel side should report
the completion of the works to the chief director of the base port and receive
instructions for the next liquid loading.

(4) Loading start
To open the manifold's valve [LL5] steadily and start the loading works of liquid.
To confirm the cargo outlet temperature is more than -10℃ and to control
the opening degree of LL5 or LL7 valve.
CAUTION
The handling of the valve [V7] differs according to pressure

equalizing method used.
To ensure against improper handling during the piping valve operation by

checking the noise and pressure in loading the liquids.
(5) Observation on loading works
After start of the loading, flow rate of sea water, cargo outlet temperature,
changes of pressure, temperature, liquid level, etc. of vessel's tank should
always be observed carefully.
In case any abnormalities are recognized, they should be reported
immediately to the responsible person of the base port, and
adequate measures should be taken in accordance with his instructions.
When the High-high level warning signal system operates, the shut
off valve will close, and then the loading will be stopped. Sufficient care
should be taken to prevent this conditions.
At 96 % of tank volume, the warning alarm sounds.
Also, when the loading liquid level is approaching the prescribed
level, the notice should be given to the chief director of the
base port and the preparation for stopping works should then be undertaken.
When the loading works are over, the next works should be started

(6) Loading works completion
a) To close the manifold's valve [LL5], [V7] steadily.

After the loading works' completion, next, the collection works for
the liquid remaining inside the loading arm and the vessel's liquid line should
be carried out.
The vessel's vapor is usually used for these works.
b) Liquid collection
The procedure is two method as follows.

before the start of liquid collection, the tank pressure on both side
(the base port and the vessel) should be checked. And it is necessary to
determine the procedure with the base port's authorized person.
・ To close V valve on the tank for about 10 ～20 minutes before

the completion of loading liquid (not to let the vapor return towards
the base port) and the vapor's accumulations inside the vessel's tank to be
continued until its pressure becomes higher than the base port's by
2 ～ 3 bar g (0.2～0.3 MPa g) .
The accumulated vapor to be sent out through the following routes and
the liquid collection works to be carried out.
・ The vessel's tanks of higher pressure side → The vessel's vapor line
→ Vapor loading arm → Base port's by-pass-line
→ Base port's liquid line → Liquid loading arm → The vessel's liquid line
→ cargo heater → The vessel's tanks
The vapor pressurized by the cargo compressor to be sent out through

the following routes and the liquid collection works to be carried out.
The vessel's tank → The vessel's vapor line → The cargo compressor
(※ caution) → The vessel's vapor line → The vessel's liquid line
→ cargo heater → Liquid loading arm → Base port's liquid line
→ Base port's tank

CAUTIONS
The operating procedure shall be done according to 3-8.

The example as stated above shows the method applied to one kind of cargo
loading only. For two kinds of cargo loadings, the liquid collection to
the tanks on the side of low pressure may be applied by use of the vapor
on the side of high pressure in a tank of base port or vessel's
( the vapor may be directly supplied from the base port depending on the loading order ).
And also, after loading VCM(Vinyl chloride) and Butadiene, to maintain
positive pressure, nitrogen gas will be filled up into vapor zone.
Whichever side's vapor may be used, the works should be carried out
in accordance with the instructions of the chief director of the base port.

(7) Arrangements after loading works' completion
a) To close the valves concerning the loading works.

When the liquid collection works are over, the valves should be closed to
the following order.
i) To close valves on the tank and valves at the vessel's loading manifold.
ii) To close the hydraulic emergency shut off valve.
The return valve ( A ) mounted on the electric hydraulic pump unit
should be opened and the oil pressure should be ascertained to be
0 bar g (0 MPa g). The return valve should then be closed.
b) To purge the loading arm of cargo vapor.

There are base ports where the inert gas is used for these works or
the release of the vapor pressure is only carried out.
The works should be carried out in accordance with the instructions of
the responsible person of the base port in the way similar to
“ air purging works before loadings”.
c) To remove the loading arm and fit cover flanges on the loading manifold.
d) To remove the earth line.

5-3. UNLOADING OPERATION using DEEP WELL PUMP
When the vessel's quayside mooring works are over, the preparatory
operation should be carried out in the following order the same way as in loadings.
(1) Preparatory operation between the vessel and the base port
a) To connect the earth line of the vessel with the base port's.
b) To connect and purge the loading arm.
(2) The vessel's side preparatory operation
a) To open the emergency shut off valves operating the oil hydraulic pump unit.
b) To open the valves, except L or V valves at the vessel's loading manifold.
1) In case of discharging from No.1 tank

1V1, 1V2 → LL3, V4
2) In case of discharging from No.2 tank

2V1, 2V2 → LL3, V4
a) Opening degree of the valve 1L1, 2L1 at pump outlet on the tanks.
To set the valve's handle keeping 1/8 revolution to compensate for
the motion change during the period from the pump start to its normal rotating.
b) To make sure which valve should be opened or closed and ascertain their
actual state of opening or closure by marking plates fitted to each valve,
in unloading work operation.
c) To get the cargo pump ready for start

(Reference should be made to the Deep well pump Instruction Manual)
With the operation as stated above, the whole preparation works on the vessel's side are
completed. At this time, this matter should be reported to the responsible person of
the base port, and his next instructions should be received.

(3) Pressure Equalizing Works.
a) To open the manifold valves [V7] steadily.
b) There may be the occasions to carry out the unloading works without
pressure equalizing works or to open [V7] valve when the pressure of both sides
is equalized during the unloading works (during the process of unloading).
Whichever the case may be, the works should be carried out
c) When the pressure equalizing works have been completed, the vessel side
should report the completion to the chief director of base port and receive
the instructions to start the unloading works.
(4) Unloading works start.
a) To open the [LL5] valve of the vessel's loading manifold.

(Care should be taken to the [V7] valve operation which may be different
depending on the pressure equalizing works method).
b) To start cargo pump.

(Refer to the Deep Well Pump Instruction Manual)
The switch for starting and stopping the operation of the pump is located
at the working platform near the cargo pump.
c) After 10 seconds, to open gradually the discharge valve and to set

the discharge valve when the discharge pressure reaches the rated point,
then to continue the discharging.

(5) Observation of unloading works
Care should be taken to the change of the liquid level, motor current value,
discharge pressure, abnormal vibrations or noise of the cargo pump operation and
bearing housing temperature, especially during the unloading works.
The change of the liquid level should be checked with a float type level gauge
at proper times. And further, the tank pressure and temperature should be observed.
If the unloading work progresses orderly and the liquid level of
the remaining cargo reaches approximately 1000㎜ height from the inside surface
of the tank, these developments should be reported to the authorized person of
the base port, and organizational arrangements for the final unloading work
should be conducted by him.
(6) Handling of Deep Well Pump Discharge Valve
When the liquid level of the remaining cargo becomes about 500 mm,
the discharge pressure should be checked. If an unstable pressure is found,
the discharge valve [1L1], [2L1 ] should be steadily throttled to make the
discharge pressure stable and to prevent cavitasion from occurring.

(7) (Liquid) Unloading works completion
a) Even after the operation of the discharge valve stated as above, there may
come the occasion to be unable to keep the discharge pressure from changing
or decreasing widely, when the quantity of the liquid remaining inside
the cargo tank becomes extremely little. It will be impossible to continue
the unloading works with pump any more. Therefore, the pump operation
should be immediately stopped, and the discharge valve should be closed.
b) The vessel's loading manifold valves should be closed after stopping the pump.
CAUTION
Above operation b) is necessary to avoid a back flow in liquid or vapor lines

due to the differential pressure between the base side and vessel's side.
c) The presence and the quantity of remaining liquid to be checked with

the float level gauge or handling the drain valve attached to the tank.
(Only float level gauge to be used for VCM [Vinyl chloride].)

5-4. VAPOR COLLECTION and LIQUID COLLECTION WORKS
After unloading works using the cargo pump are completed, the vapor
collection works should then be started. The degree of vapor collection,
in relation to how much pressure is to be present in the vessel's final tank
pressure, should be determined by the base port's authorized person.
The remaining vapor in the vessel's tank is to be sent to the base port
tank by means of the vessel's cargo compressor. Before the start of
collection work, the tank pressure on both sides (the base port and the vessel)
should be checked. And after having asked the advice of the base port's
authorized person, the work procedure should be determined.
(1) Matters to be considered before the vapor collection works start
a) In the case that vessel's and base port's tank pressure are equalized :
The collection works may be immediately commenced by operating the cargo
compressor.
b) In the case that base port's tank pressure is higher than vessel' :
There is the possibility of backward flow out of the base port's tank into
the vessel's tank, so a close attention should be paid to the compressor's
operation and to the timing of the manifold's valve opening.
Vapor collection work should be started when the vessel's manifold pressure
becomes higher than the base port tank pressure.
c) In the case that pressure of vessel's tank are higher than the base port's :
Open the vessel's side valves of vapor piping system and equalize the vessel
and base port tank pressures.

(2) Piping routes of vapor collection works (Piping system)
a) For the use of the vapor loading arm

The vessel's tank → Vapor line → Cargo compressor → Vapor line
→ Vapor loading arm → Base port's vapor line → Base port's tank
b) For the use of the liquid loading arm

The vessel's cargo tank → Vapor line → Cargo compressor →
Vapor line → Liquid line (through by-pass valve )
→ Liquid loading arm → Base port's liquid line → Base port's tank
Either route may be applied, and as to selecting which route is to be

applied, it should be determined in accordance with the instructions of
the base port's authorized person.

(3) Start of vapor collection works
a) To open the piping route valves
1) In case of collecting the vapor of No.1 tank through the vapor loading arm
( [1V1],[1V2] ) → [V8] → [V9],[V10] → compressor inlet

→ Compressor [G1],[G2] → Compressor outlet → [V11],[V12] → [V5]
→ manifold [V7]
2) In case of collecting the vapor of No.2 tank through the vapor loading arm

→ Compressor [G1],[G2] → Compressor outlet → [V11],[V12] → [V5]
→ manifold [V7]
3) In case of collecting the vapor of No.1 tank through the liquid loading arm partly
on the liquid collection

→ Compressor [G1],[G2] → Compressor outlet → [V11],[V12]
→ by-pass valves [VL1] → manifold [LL5]
4) In case of collecting the vapor of No.2 tank through the liquid loading arm partly
on the liquid collection

→ Compressor [G1] ,[G2] → Compressor outlet → [V11],[V12]
→ by-pass valves [VL1] → manifold [LL5]

Next, the cargo compressor’s operation should be started.
In case of operating the compressor, as certain the following items :
* The drain valve [D8], [D9] is opened to discharge the drainage in the compressor cylinder
completely.
CAUTION
The compressor cylinders must be completely drained otherwise liquid compression

will occur. This will result in serious damage to the compressor.
* Compressor room fan is in operation.

* Cooling water of compressor is flowing.
* Compressor is in the state of light load start.
* The state of manifold valve, closed.
b) To start the compressor
The cargo compressor attains its normal revolution about 5 minutes after
the start of operation. Then, it should be charged over to its normal load conditions
by closing the by-pass valve [G1], [G2].
Then, the manifold valve should be opened.
When the vessel’s tank pressure attains the prescribed pressure level,
this state should be reported to the base port authorized person, and
the gas collection works should be completed in accordance with his instruction.

(4) Vapor collection works completion
a) To stop the cargo compressor's operation.

b) To close the manifold L and V valve.
When the vapor collection works are finished, the arrangements for cargo
handling works completion should be carried out.
(5) Procedure after unloading works completion
a) To close the valves which have been opened during the cargo unloading works.
b) To close the hydraulic emergency shut off valves by decreasing
the pressure of hydraulic system.
c) To purge the loading arm of the vapor.
d) To disconnect the loading arm, and put the cover flange to the manifold.
e) To remove the earth line.

5-5. Unloading under the Trouble of the Deep-well Pump
One cargo pump is fitted up to each cargo tank.

In case that the deep-well pumps equipped to each cargo tank is in trouble,
the unloading can be carried out in the following method.
Both cargo tanks are loaded same cargoes and ;
1) In case of the trouble of the deep-well pump for No.1 tank.

Firstly, the valves of the vapor line should be handled to suck the vapor
in No.2 tank and to pressurize the No.1 tank.
Secondly, the cargo compressor should be operated.
When the cargo pressure in No.1 tank becomes higher than that of No.2 tank
by 1.5 ～ 2 bar g (1.5 ～ 2.0 kg/cm2 g), the inlet valve ( 1L2, 2L2 ) to both
tanks should be opened completely to transfer the liquid from No.1 tank to
No.2 tank.
Lastly, the unloading can be carried out using the deep-well pump of No.2 tank.
2) In case of the trouble of the deep-well pump for No.2 tank.

Firstly, the valves of the vapor line should be handled to suck the vapor
in No.1 tank and to pressurize the No.2 tank.
Secondly, the cargo compressor should be operated.
When the cargo pressure in No.2 tank becomes higher than that of No.1 tank
by 1.5 ～ 2 bar g (1.5 ～ 2.0 kg/cm2 g) , the inlet valve ( 1L2, 2L2 ) to both
tanks should be opened completely to transfer the liquid from No.2 tank to
No.1 tank.
Lastly, the unloading can be carried out using the deep-well pump of No.1 tank.
