Welcome to Strawberry Hill House & Garden

Strawberry Hill House & Garden, created by Horace Walpole in the 18th century, has been open to visitors for over 250 years. This extraordinary building is internationally famous as Britain’s finest example of Georgian Gothic revival architecture and home to an increasingly important collection of paintings and objects.

Opening Times

House & Shop: Saturday – Wednesday, 11am – 4pm. Last entry 3pm. (on Monday 16th we will be open 1pm-4pm)
Garden & Café: Saturday – Wednesday, 9am – 4pm.  Garden free entry.

Bank Holidays and weekends can be busy, please book ahead to avoid disappointment.

Please note that there are some small roadworks taking place at the roundabout where you turnoff from Strawberry Vale to the Waldegrave Road and there is a diversion in place. (These will be in place until 23rd September). You can still access our car park from Waldegrave Road if you approach from the other side. Full details on our Visit Us page

NEWS: Thanks to a Collections Access Grant from the Decorative Arts Society, Strawberry Hill House is set to explore the lesser-known legacies of Lady Frances Waldegrave and the Stern family. Building upon ongoing efforts to establish a comprehensive collections database, this project will allow us to extend cataloguing and research initiatives to encompass their significant contributions to the house’s storied past. NEWS: Bronze bust of the emperor Gaius Caesar Augustus Germanicus (Caligula) will be on display from 29 June 24 at Strawberry Hill House on long-term loan from the Schroder Collection. After being lost for over a century, the ancient bronze bust of Roman emperor Caligula, gifted to Horace Walpole by Horace Mann in 1767, has been rediscovered in the Schroder family collection. Initially thought to be a Renaissance piece, recent analysis confirms its ancient origins, reuniting it with its storied past at Strawberry Hill. FIND OUT MORE

BLOG: Crafted by renowned makers Thomas Phipps and Edward Robinson, this blog tells the story of Horace Walpole’s coconut cups, which have returned to the house for the first time since 1842. It highlights the resurgence of coconut cups as symbols of luxury during the Georgian period and acknowledges the efforts of all involved in their return to Strawberry Hill House.
