A-10 CICU
SwRI was contracted to provide a form/fit/function replacement to the A-10C mission processor, the Central Interface Control Unit (CICU). The CICU controls the pilot-vehicle interface among:

  • two 5x5 multi-function color displays
  • hands-on-throttle and stick selections
  • digital stores management system—including smart weapon interfaces
  • targeting pod and maverick video display
  • datalink message handling

The CICU also provides a digital map on the tactical awareness display for operational battlefield awareness. SwRI’s A-10C CICU is expected to begin flight test this fall.

F-16 SIU
SwRI has developed, integrated, and fully tested a solution to provide platform-level integration of radio frequency (RF) sensors and transmitters for the F-16. The F-16 Sensor Integration Unit (SIU) monitors multiple aircraft buses and Ethernet networks, and it maintains an Operation Flight Program (OFP) to provide for proper coordination between aircraft sensors (such as radar and electronic warfare systems) so they operate concurrently without interference. The SIU was developed with a quad-core processor capable of hosting safety-of-flight critical software, which provides the aircraft with substantial future OFP growth opportunities. The SIU has been approved for fielding on most F-16 variants, and a production contract is expected in the coming months.

SwRI is a premier independent, nonprofit research and development organization providing innovative technical solutions across a broad range of scientific and engineering disciplines. We are a preeminent provider of aircraft avionics reverse engineering, new development, integration, evaluation and analysis, and sustainment services on key platforms including the F-16, A-10, B-52, and B-1. Additionally, SwRI carries a long legacy of electronic warfare (EW) hardware and software sustainment support, including research and development of cutting-edge EW technology solutions.
