Host Marriot now has eight airport "micro" pubs, more on the way.

Host Marriot has now opened eight airport "microbrew pubs" around the country, including Washington's Dulles Airport, Cincinnati International Airport, Seattle/Tacoma International Airport and Baltimore Washington International Airport. Six additional microbrew pubs will open in 1996, including outlets at Bradley International Airport in Hartford, CT; San Francisco International Airport and Reno Cannon International Airport.

"We expect the microbrew trend to keep growing for another four or five years," said Stan Novack, vice president of adult beverages for Host Marriot. "At that point, we think it will reach its peak, but we don't expect sales to taper off at that time. Just like wines have remained popular since their rise in the 1980s, micorbrews are not a here today, gone tomorrow fad. They're here to stay."

Novack says that each pub offers travelers locally-brewed beer and regional cuisine. In Boston, visitors drink Samuel Adams and sample Legal Seafoods; At Baltimore International, a Wild Goose Ale House gives travelers crab cakes and Wild Goose ales.

Host Marriot operates many airport concessions, including the Premium Stock chain of "Airpubs", which now number 400. The company has also opened 15 "Cheers" pubs nationwide.

"In the past, the basic airport lounge had no real identity except maybe a wall decoration that gave travelers a hint of the host city," said Novack. 'With the addition of PS airpubs, Cheers and now the microbrew pubs, we have created locations with identities that travelers look for when they need a place to relax at the airport."
