High-flying enthusiasts enjoy breezy Barry day.
DESPITE the weekend weather, the skies over Barry Island were anything but grey as the resort's second kite festival took off. Kite flyers from across the UK flocked to Barry for the festival, which ran from Saturday morning until yesterday evening. In addition to a host of colourful and unusual kites, the event also featured kite surfing, kite buggying and displays by the sport's top professionals. The Barry Island Kite Festival was started last year by Gordon Hawkins, who has been flying kites since childhood and now runs the Kite Man shop on Barry's seafront. After the ``soaraway'' success of last year's festival, kite enthusiasts hope the festival will become a permanent fixture on Barry Island's summer calendar.
