Iowa microbrewery damaged in flooding.
When the recent Mississippi floods swept through Davenport, IA, the Front Street Brewery was "wiped out" according to a report in the New York Times.Steve Zuidema, proprietor of the brewpub, was steadfast in the face of disaster, however. "We won't move," he was quoted as saying. "We're sitting on one gem of a piece of property."
The brewery lost its wooden floor, dry wall and downstairs bar. Zuidema reports that he also had to dump 1,000 gallons of beer from his tanks.
"I say 'Oh it's a $100,000' whenever anybody asks me for an estimate," Zuidema says, "but maybe I'm way off. Maybe I can bring it back for a little less. Maybe it's going to cost a whole lot more."
Once the brewery is running again, Zuidema intends commemorate the flood with a new brand, Raging River Ale.
"I believe that out of things that are bad there come things that are good," he said, "maybe Raging River will be that. Maybe it's my ticket to fame and fortune."
