Tanker signed out of dock.

THE last Dow Corning chemical tanker to leave the Vopak terminal on Barry Number One Dock has been signed out two years ahead of schedule.

Vopak Terminals plans to close the terminal and relocate it to a new state-ofthe-art complex on Hayes Road, Sully, by the autumn. The original plan was to close the terminal by 2004.

The company has invested heavily in the Windmill site on Hayes Road, where Dow Corning is one of its main customers.

The new investment means that up to 75 per cent of stored products can now be transferred directly by pipeline or sea, using Barry Number Two Dock.

As a result, Vopak has already been able to take 200,000 tonnes of tanker traffic off the roads of Barry. Leighton Loftus, Vopak's site manager, said: ``Investment by the company and a commitment from major customers has created the potential for us to expand our facilities at the Windmill site.

``As a result, we can close the out-dated services at Number One Dock ahead of schedule.''
