Three quarters of Slovenian households have Internet access.

In the first quarter of 2013, one third of Slovenian households used mobile broadband Internet connections over mobile phones, USB modems or SIM cards.

Three quarters of Slovenian households have Internet accessIn the first quarter of 2013, 76% of households in Slovenia had access to the Internet, which is 2 percentage points more than in the same period of 2012. The majority of these households (98%) used broadband Internet connections. In the first quarter of 2013, 76% of households had access to a computer at home. 56% of households had access to a desktop computer, the same share of households (56%) had access to a portable computer and 14% of households had access to a tablet computer.

The use of mobile broadband Internet connections is increasing in Slovenia In comparison with the same period of 2012, an increase in mobile broadband connections was noticed. Compared with the first quarter of 2012, the share of households that accessed the Internet via mobile broadband connections over at least 3G mobile phone (UMTS, HSDPA) increased by 5 percentage points (to 28%). 12% of households used mobile broadband connections via at least 3G modem (USB modem, integrated SIM card), which is 2 percentage points more than in the first quarter of 2012.

The most widespread type of fixed broadband Internet connection is cable connection; in the first quarter of 2013, 32% of households accessed the Internet via cable connections. 29% of households accessed the Internet via xDSL connections (e.g. ADSL, VDSL), 21% of households via fixed wireless connections (e.g. public WiFi, satellite) and 16% of households via optic fiber or other wired fixed broadband connections. From communicating to online shoppingIn the first quarter of 2013, slightly fewer than 1,240,000 persons or 74% of persons aged 10 to 74 used the Internet. The majority of these persons (95%) used the Internet at least once a week. Persons aged 10 to 74 years used the Internet in the first quarter of 2013 mostly for sending or receiving e-mails (64%) and for reading online news, newspapers or news magazines (57%).

Searching for different information on the Internet is also widespread; 54% of persons used the Internet for searching for information about goods and services, 48% for searching for health-related information and 33% for searching for information about education, training or course offers. 41% of persons participated in social networks and 27% of persons used the Internet for telephoning or video calls via webcam over the Internet. In the first quarter of 2013, 34% of persons used the Internet for selling of goods or services, 31% for Internet banking and 24% for ordering or buying goods or services. Mobile devices enable Internet connectivity anywhere and anytimeIn the first quarter of 2013, 40% of persons aged 10 to 74 years used different mobile devices to access the Internet away from home or work - mobile phones, portable computers (laptop, notebook, netbook), tablet computers or other handheld devices (PDA, MP3 player, e-book reader, handheld games console). 32% of persons aged 10 to 74 years used mobile phones, 20% of persons used portable or tablet computers and 6% of persons other handheld devices.
