The number of high street bank branches that have closed over the past nine years will pass 6,000 on Friday, according to research by a consumer group.
Which? said that the “avalanche” of closures was damaging high streets and communities and that the milestone highlighted the need for replacement services for millions of people and small companies.
The closure of eight Barclays branches scheduled to shut on Friday will take the total to 6,005 branch closures since 2015, Which? said, with 200 more scheduled for the rest of 2024.
