Cambridge University students face having their graduation ceremonies moved from the building where such events have taken place since the 18th century amid pro-Palestinian protests.

The protesters said that the university had agreed to negotiate with them after they expanded their encampment to the site of this weekend’s graduation ceremonies.

Cambridge for Palestine, the group running the protest, said on Thursday evening that the university had “committed to negotiate with us for divestment from Israel” and consequently announced that it would move the camp away from Senate House.

The university appears to have bowed to pressure from protesters after they took to the lawn outside Senate House, where graduations were due to take place on Friday and Saturday.
