One election year ritual requires pundits to identify a new electoral tribe crucial to the outcome. Basildon Man, Worcester Woman, Mondeo Man and Workington Man — each in their time was said to be the swing voter to watch. My contribution to this dubious genre is RSPB Woman.
My interest in her was sparked by the recent local election results. The Green Party did exceedingly well, gaining 74 council seats, boosting the number of its councillors to over 800, the most ever.
