Putin visits China to cement anti-American alliance

Ukraine is high on the agenda as Xi Jinping, fresh from a trip to Europe, welcomes the Russian president for a two-day visit

The leaders of Russia and China cemented their anti-American alliance on Thursday as President Putin arrived in Beijing for the first state visit of his new, fifth term in office.

Putin thanked President Xi for the role China was playing in the Ukraine war. Xi has refused to comply with western requests to stop supplying Russia with key equipment including high-end electronics, justifying his decision by putting forward his own “peace plan” to end the conflict.
