The American golfer Grayson Murray, a two-times winner on the PGA Tour, has died at the age of 30.

Murray’s death was announced the day after he withdrew during the second round of the Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas on Friday, having told playing partners that he felt unwell.

On Sunday a statement from Murray’s parents, Eric and Terry, confirmed that the golfer had taken his own life.

It read: “We have spent the last 24 hours trying to come to terms with the fact that our son is gone. It’s surreal that we not only have to admit it to ourselves, but that we also have to acknowledge it to the world. It’s a nightmare.
