There are still numerous potential plot twists in the race for the United Rugby Championship play-offs, but Friday night against Munster is almost certainly going to be Bill Mata’s final Edinburgh home game.

If and when the capital club do secure one of the remaining top-eight spots over the last two weekends of the regular season, they will be odds-on to go on the road in the quarter-finals, and with teams retaining their original seeding, any semi-final would very likely be away from home too.

As ever with Edinburgh’s friendly but formidable Fijian, the bigger picture takes priority, yet it is clear that he could be a quivering wreck come full-time at Hive Stadium.
