Brand watch: Victorinox

Tom Hardy
Tom Hardy

In 1884 Karl Elsener opened a cutler’s workshop in the Swiss town of Ibach. Within seven years, he was supplying soldiers’ knives to the Swiss army. In 1921 his company became Victorinox, combining his mother’s name (Victoria) and inox, the French word for stainless steel. Subsequent Elseners realised the power the brand held and, inevitably, Victorinox moved into clothing and watches. With celebrity fans such as Tom Hardy (above), it has now launched the Limited Edition collection of apparel, including a reversible bomber, £325, while its latest watches include the I.N.O.X. Leather (top), priced at £379 (victorinox.com).

Wharf factor

The camel blazer in baby alpaca from Harris Wharf London brings a youthful twist to traditional tailoring. Run by siblings Aldo and Giulia Acchiardi, Harris Wharf London jackets have raw edges and exposed seams, and are made in the family glove-making factory in Turin (£490; trunkclothiers.com).

5 reasons why we love... Sony SRS-X88 speaker

1. It’s a really muscular unit, with five speakers driven by five amplifiers giving up to 90 watts of sound. 2. You can add more units and group them … 3. … and control everything from your phone using the SongPal app. 4. Even if you’re listening to heavily compressed MP3 tracks, it uses Sony’s DSEE HX technology to upscale music files to near High-Resolution Audio quality. 5. It looks neat, too, with the top panel made of glass with eight touch-sensitive buttons (£349; sony.co.uk).

Trusty Steed
Dr Martens’ three-eye Steed shoe has been reworked and updated in a collaboration with Copenhagen creative studio Norse Projects. Its upper is in British water-resistant Repello suede, and there’s a custom padded tongue in ripstop nylon. The shoe, £199, is available in black, white and oxblood and has the traditional AirWair “bouncing sole” (endclothing.com).
