Top state school

More emphasis should be placed on what the top-rated state schools are doing right in terms of Oxbridge entries

Sir, I attended Hills Road Sixth Form College, went on to read mathematics at Oxford, and found your article puzzling in its focus (“Five schools lead the race to send pupils to Oxbridge as thousands are left behind”, July 8). Why was such emphasis placed on statistics from schools that send no or few students to Oxbridge and not on how Hills Road, as a state school providing the best chances of entry to Oxbridge that money cannot buy, can get similar numbers of students in as top public schools? Surely it is a success story that a state education need not be a second-rate education.
