Bourke Shire leadership team re-elected
The newly appointed Bourke Shire Council – which itself was re-elected unopposed on December 4, 2021, has re-elected the mayoral leadership team that has existed for the last five years.
In a demonstration of confidence in his leadership, Councillor Barry Hollman was declared Mayor until 25 September 2023 in an uncontested election.
Councillor Lachlan Ford was also elected unopposed and declared Deputy Mayor, for the same period.
The election for the positions of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Bourke Shire Council was held at an Extraordinary Meeting of Bourke Shire Council on Friday, December 10, 2021.
For Councillor Hollman, it was the unfinished business of water security that saw him run for the top job again.
“To secure the future of Bourke we need security of water and that is one of our major goals - to increase out town water supply from six months to two years supply,” Clr Hollman said.
“That’s what we want to achieve.
“Along with water security comes job opportunities.
“It’s hard for people to commit to the town if they can’t be guaranteed more than six months water, so that, and completing the sealing of the Wanaaring Road are two things not finished and I would like to see them complete,” he said.
