COVID-19

The profound effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have been felt throughout the world and it is only due to the skill and determination of our principal public health medical officers and appropriate action by our senior politicians that Australia has so far fared well.

It is interesting to reflect that approximately 70 percent of new human infections have been transmitted from animals. It is therefore timely that ACTM and ASID have planned a zoonotic conference to review the interface between human and veterinary infections in September 2021.

For your information we have put together statements on COVID-19 from learned medical bodies and a webinar presentation from Professor J McBride and Dr Alvarez, two infectious disease specialists working in northern Queensland.
