Thousands of naked women were dancing upon my grave, there was a deafening howling, and the more they stumped upon the mucky ground, blood began oozing from their feet covering the soil resembling the barrel of grapes, the women having bronze, silver, and gold vases dipping into soil that now look like red wine.

People turning against Chappell Roan for not accepting harassment & stalking of her and her family, saying Hozier is acting embarrassing for defending his girlfriend THAT Y'ALL WEREN'T EVEN SUPPOSED TO KNOW ABOUT after she got harassed online, calling Pedro Pascal names for.. apparently not greeting fans loudly in his own private time?

Y'all have GOT to get a grip on real life if you think celebs establishing boundaries is working against you. You do not know these people, you will not sleep with these people and they do not owe you anything!!!!!!

Found my 53yo very-much-not-online father in the kitchen today meticulously arranging cutlery on the countertop and i was like 'what are you doing' and he looked up at me with the world's most shit-eating grin and said "Your mother told me this is how you rick-roll the Youth" and i looked over and it was fucking. Loss.jpg.

i must stress that he's never seen the original comic. My mother simply showed him the shorthand symbol and he memorized it. As far as he is aware this is just a fucking hieroglyph that deals instant psychic damage to everyone under the age of 30

im not even the type of guy to go "actually it's frankenstein's MONSTER" because a painting by rembrandt or picasso or any other artist is often called "a rembrandt" or "a picasso" as shorthand. so in this respect frankenstein's monster can be considered "a frankenstein"

darling I love your 8 foot tall patchwork flesh creature, it really livens up the place. is that an authentic frankenstein?

it's only a true frankenstein if it was produced in the frankenstein region of switzerland. otherwise it's just a sparkling homunculus

I’m noticing an increase in new fic writers on AO3 who…uh…mayy not know how to format their fics correctly..so here is a quick and VERY important tip

Using a random fic of mine as example..

The left example: ✅✅✅

The right example: ❌❌❌

Idk how many times I’ve read a good fic summary and been so excited to read before clicking on it and being met with an ugly wall of text. When I see a huge text brick with zero full line breaks my eyes blur and I just siiiigh bc either I click out immediately or I grin and bear it…it’s insufferable!

If a new character speaks, you need a line break. If you notice a paragraph is becoming too large, go ahead and make a line break and/or maybe reconfigure the paragraph to flow better. I’m not a pro writer or even a huge fic writer but…please…ty…

This is a good thing to keep in mind! It is often and unfortunate that a really good fic doesn’t get love because its formatting makes it too difficult to read!

I think I figured out why this happens!

AO3's posting form has two modes: Rich Text and HTML. the vast majority of people write in Rich Text editors, aka any normal word processing software (MS Word, Google Docs, Apple Pages, what have you). but when you first open it, the posting form opens in HTML view. if you paste formatted text into HTML view, it erases every piece of formatting, including paragraph spacing.

this is an easy fix. when you go to post your fic, make sure the posting form looks like this:

not like this:

and please spread the word! this is an important piece of computer literacy that nobody is teaching to the new generations and they deserve to know

Oh, if you're posting by copying from tumblr and pasting to AO3, use Rich Text. It'll keep the paragraph spacing. If you don't, you get the jammed up version.

Just want to add, if you post in HTML you can still go in there and add line breaks/paragraph breaks.

Sometimes I have to adjust the breaks in rich text, too. Point is you don't have to leave a wall of text as-is. You can fix that before posting. Please do!

There's a readability difference on a site like ao3 and a book - books are single spaced with spaces after paragraphs and indentions on paragraphs, whereas not all text editors support indents, so a full line break can replace it for clarity.

Remember to preview your fic before posting so you can catch if the formatting went through the way you want! I've gad to go back and fix things because I accidentally had a chunk with no breaks or because I had too much space. Especially if you're going for something creative with the formatting it's good to preview to make sure it comes out right.

And if you forget or you didn't know this? You can always go back and edit it to fix the formatting. You don't have to say anything, but you could also add a note in the tags, summary, or author's notes that you fixed formatting errors if you want to signal to people who might have passed on it before.

Walls of text like that become very difficult or even impossible to read for many people (my eyes keep losing track of my place and it's extremely exhausting trying to read even a few paragraphs), so we just skip them completely as a result. Even if everything else about the fic was masterfully written, it's just not readable in that format on screens.

Basically, as the above said, you're using a full line of space the same way you'd use an indent elsewhere. It's like tumblr, too.
