The Gentle Death is a neutral deity often said to be represented by a dying tree, as a means of saying that ‘from death, comes life’. Depending on the region, the branches are said to shift into tendrils, as a symbolism that the Gentle Death can not only reach out to those on land, but at sea. The Gentle Death’s purpose is largely known to provide safe passage to the souls of the dying and recently deceased, protecting them along their way to their destination. Among those well versed of this god, each arm of the deity represents those who pass away by specific circumstances. Their soul thereafter falls under the protection of this God in the afterlife. The six arms represents victims of the following.

  • War
  • Famine
  • Disease
  • Suicide
  • Disaster
  • Abuse

Among good aligned aberrations, The Gentle Death is also commonly worshipped among them under the belief that this god is also an aberration and will provide them safety.

The Gentle Death’s insignia is often a skull with an 8-pointed star on the forehead, looking like a compass in some iterations, while tentacles or branches may be present. In some depictions, both branches and tentacles are present. The skull with the star is the single quality consistent through the interpretations.

Those who have died and come back may report experiencing a tall, twelve foot entity with multiple limbs, extending one of their hands out for them kindly and patiently.

The gender of this god is often debated, but most worshipers will refer to Death with gender neutral pronouns, however, there is no wrong answer. Death encompasses all, and therefore it represents all.
