non-mage hawke was THERE in the killing field when the beacon lit and the cheer went up and nobody came to save them. in a marsh of mud and blood and the bodies of every other kid from lothering who could pick up a sword. cutting their way through to a brother who the darkspawn would kill anyway. non-mage hawke is a deserter, they’d be dead if they weren’t. none of that is, like, an incidental, forgettable detail of a character’s memories
