urgent: Help evacuate my family from the Gaza war

Dear humanity, my supportive friends

I am Asmaa from Gaza, from a family of 8, a lawyer and a graduate of Palestine University. I climbed the ladder to build my life and future step by step, but everything ended and was destroyed because of the war.

I've witnessed the evidence of the tragedy that has struck our lives in Gaza, where my family and I have survived amidst numerous previous wars. But today, we face the most dangerous and fierce battle in the current war. The urgent need intensifies for us, as we have nothing left and are unable to secure our basic needs such as food, water, and safe shelter.

Here is our story - On October 7th, our lives changed forever. My family and I left our home for southern Gaza, hoping to return soon, but that was not to be. Our home was besieged and then completely destroyed. Our home, once a bastion of hope, now lies in ruins, a stark reminder of our shattered dreams.

The night before we set off south was terrifying. The sounds of bombing were everywhere, making a great noise that was so great that it ripped through our souls. Every explosion shook the ground like earthquakes, sending intense air strikes of fear through our trembling bodies. Making us terrified. It was so great, and the blood was in the air, making it hard to breathe. When dawn came, we looked around us, and realized that our home was now a symbol of loss and despair.

We ran into the streets and with each step we took into the unknown streets, we felt as if we were plunging deeper into the abyss of our shattered existence, leaving behind everything we own in our home: Clothes, important official documents, the car, and literally it's almost everything - the enormity of our loss weighed heavily upon us.

I appeal to the world as a whole to hear my cry and the mournful cry of my family in Gaza. We need the helping hand that reaches out to wipe our tears and build a bridge to safety.

Hello! I'm writing to tell you about my friends Rajaa and Khaled (@rajaagaza and @khaled-gaza). Rajaa and Khaled are 26 and 30 years old, and they are from Palestine. They've been married for three years (their anniversary was yesterday!) and they have a sweet little boy named Karam, who is one-and-a-half years old. Rajaa is a medical analysis specialist and Khaled is a chef and a teacher.

I'm telling you about them because their livelihoods have been completely destroyed. Every day, for more than nine months, they have been living in terror, displaced and existing under conditions we truly cannot even begin to imagine. Their baby is suffering from severe malnutrition and profound psychological torment because of the constant bombing and attacks they are exposed to. There is no food. There is no clean water. There is no way for them to earn money.

Rajaa, Khaled and Karam need to evacuate Gaza. The situation is dire. There is no time. They've been trying to raise the funds necessary to evacuate for months, but their progress has been incredibly slow. This is why I'm turning to you.

They have raised $4,438 CAD as of writing this. Their goal is $20,000 CAD. The cost of travel into Egypt at the moment is roughly $2,500 each for children and $5,000 each for adults. At the moment, they don't even have enough for one adult. Rajaa and Khaled have the chance to move to Canada with family and get visas there, to build themselves a new life together, but they need the funds necessary to cross into Egypt first.

I humbly ask for your assistance in helping them achieve their goal. Just a $5 donation makes a world of difference. It may feel as though you are incapable of enacting any meaningful change or positive influence individually, but that isn't true. In sharing this and Rajaa and Khaled's own posts, in donating when you have the means, you are providing a beautiful young family with hope. Please, please choose to help them.

I feel very lucky to call Rajaa and Khaled my friends. Despite the truly unimaginable stress that Rajaa experiences every day in trying to look after her son and keep surviving, she always asks after me and my well-being. She worries for my health. Let me repeat that: SHE worries for MY health. She is so incredibly kind, selfless and considerate. All she wants is to live a safe, happy life with her husband and son, and all I want is for her to get her wish.
