there’s something so sad about how we treat old people nowadays. historically, humans have accomplished so many great things because we valued our elders, took care of them, and gave them meaningful retirement. meanwhile we have seniors aged 60+ working in retail just to survive. can you imagine working your entire life, just to work until you die? in fucking retail? 

old people are not useless, they’re not a drain on the economy, and theyre not all bigoted windbags. theyre people! people! who have lived their entire fucking lives under capitalism. they deserve to retire peacefully and pursue their interests during the final years of their lives. they deserve to be taken care of. they deserve to go with dignity.

i think the reason "harm reduction" as a phrase has been stolen & destroyed is only partly due to ignorance lol. a lot of people hear about the goals strategies & ideology of harm reduction and automatically think it must be a "lesser of two evils" situation because a person going from using dirty needles to clean needles is considered a good thing. Well theyre still a dirty nasty addict but at least they wont get bloodborne diseases so i guess it's the lesser of two evils. When in fact this is not an evil lol it is not a bad thing to work with a person struggling with substance use and figure out where they are in their life what they need & how to reduce the chances they'll get sick. Bc the point is to see the marginalized person as a human being. I've definitely encountered a number of ppl these days who think harm reduction is just a term for electoral politics but somebody had 2 start using it that way 1st and I think ur spot on. We should never have let liberals get away with hopping on harm reduction as a trend bc to them it really DOES mean "neccesary evil". They still hate us junkies and whores, it's just that their worldview and self-concept as a "good person" necessitates an assimilationist tract rather than an exterminationist one. They saw "removing artificially inflated risk for stigmatized behaviors does make it easier for people who want to stop/renegotiate those behaviors" and ran with it; this is the logical conclusion of "harm reduction" centers that view needles/medication assisted treatment (which...let's be real. MAT functions as safe supply for as many people as it does a step to abstinence--the idea you "dont get high" is a fuckin LIE lol; a v advantageous one for ppl who want safe supply! but still)/other supplies and safer use facilitation as inherently a step towards achieving abstinence for their clients, not as a radical activity combating risks incurred almost exclusively by prohibition (/capitalism and the drug trade) & restoring bodily autonomy for whatever individual people want broadly & in their current life context.

It's not out of left field and it's not even the fault of liberal lookyloos on Twitter, it's a legitimate continuation with problems of liberal cooption of the harm reduction field. The PR campaign to paint harm reduction as something that's not that subversive (e.g. still ultimately in line with the goals of prohibition) has had some tactical gains re: funding and material availability, but it still did what PR campaigns do lol.

I still remember when white Egyptologists on here tried to argue that their institutions having hoardes and hoardes of Egyptian artifacts was actually okay because it was in 'cooperation with the Egyptian government' (if you know you know) and they got called out on it by Egyptian & Arab bloggers on here and they just blocked all of us...

People on this app have a long history of ignoring and dismissing SWANA people and our autonomy as long as they can consume us in the process. It's further proof that they don't give a shit about whether their fetishistic practices are ethical or not, they don't care what Arabs and especially COPTS have to say about their heritage and what happens to it. I was getting suspicions but now I'm very 100% sure that most of this website's userbase hates Palestinians and not passively. I'm now fully 100% comprehending that the vast majority of this website's userbase passes by any mention of Palestinians and seethes to their core and the only reason little of it came out was because you thought there might be social repercussions for attacking Palestinians in our time of need. All it took was an easily debunkable false accusation to get people to attack people undergoing genocide as well as a genocide survivor, and now he's been stopped from doing the work he has spent months doing. I will not allow this experience to go undocumented or forgotten. Those who partook in the harassment know what they've done and the unspeakable repurcussions of it. I expected this honestly, because that is exactly what happened to BLM and other Black rights activists since 2014; a cycle of unbelievable praise before horrendous abuse and harassment once they stopped being deified. I also saw the way people treated Moataz Azaiza after he evacuated Ghazzah, and expected the same to happen to Ahmed, who also survived unspeakable things for months in an accelerated genocide, and got harassed and attacked by the THOUSANDS on tumblr after this harassment campaign was put out. I will not forgive any one involved, especially not for what they've done to Ahmed.
