This one truly took so long to paint 😭The video recording of the process took 10 sessions instead of the usual 3.

But I'm really happy with how it turned out! I've always loved the impressionist art style above all other oil painting styles, so it's been a blast studying the works of Monet and modern impressionists, and adding my own touch to the skies as well.

The full res image, painting process, and pphotoshop files will be part of July's Patreon rewards!

Finally got to paint again :D I've been using the same technique as last time with a soft clay between my palm to prevent my hand from hurting as much.

This painting is inspired by all the cool photos of light pillars. There are so many amazing natural phenomenons, sometimes I can hardly believe they're real. In other news, while my hand has been impaired, I spent all the time I couldn't draw on lots of other exciting stuff that will be released soon. I'll be releasing my first ever art book that’ll include 1 decade of my work, as well as some secret stuff that I’ll announce later ;)

-Fade Away-

I've been testing out new styles and techniques using pixel sorting. The background of this was partially created by using Gifkr's standard pixel sort to make the clouds look so windy.

In other news, I'll be at Sac Anime tomorrow and Saturday in the Artist Alley at table AAi10. Come hang out this new year! :D

-At the Crossroads-

I haven't been posting much lately because I am traveling/working in Japan at the moment! :D I'm still working with my team to make Fisheye Placebo and the new Knite, but at the same time exploring new techniques and a new country.

I was inspired by Makoto Shinkai's beautiful work, and how he uses photography as a base for his paintings. So for this one, my bf took a photo of a crossroad in Japan which I was able to use as a base to paint over. I'm still fine tuning this technique and I'll make a tutorial for it in the future :D

"风向转变时,有人筑墙,有人造风车" "When the direction of the wind changes, some build a wall, some build a windmill." I've mentioned before how I've overworked and hurt my hands in the past, and how now I can no longer draw as much as I used to. I have a more ergonomic set up now, but the damage that has been done can't be undone. I was pretty sad about that for a while, and had started using 3D backgrounds as short cuts. Now that I'm exploring more into the world of 3D art, I'm actually really happy and excited. I received a  lot of great applicants to help me build 3D models for my comics, and I'll be announcing the new team in a week or two. I'm also starting to learn more about 3D character modeling myself and will be teaching myself with online tutorials. Like the Chinese proverb, when whatever you having going in life changes, you can either try to fight it, or find a new approach that's even better than before :D Recently I found a new Photoshop plugin called Filter Forge, and I tested it out on the 3D classroom to give it that painted look. I still had to paint out the character and some other things, but it's a great time saving short cut for all comic artists out there who want to put out chapters faster! I highly recommend it! In other news, I have an Instagram now! https://www.instagram.com/yuumeiart/

Inspired by a hike I had with my SO. We started in the morning and hiked the entire day until the stars came out. It was magical seeing the blue sky turn to red, dotted with clouds of all shapes and colors, and finally the starry night with the faintest trace of the Milky Way. We live our stressful and hectic days, but it's calming to step back and remember no matter what's happening in our lives, the sun will rise and set, painting the skies in a menagerie of emotions. We all have to do is look up and breathe. In other news, I'll be at the Cherry Blossom Festival in San Francisco this weekend April 11th and 12th, and the weekend after. You can find my table inside the Japan Center Mall, right outside the top floor of the Kinokuniya bookstore entrance. I'll be there will my usual books and prints, and I'm also happy to hangout and chat! If you happen to be a backer for the Axent Wear headphones and have questions about the current status and updates, I'll be happy to answer all your questions in person :) I hope to see you there!
