New on Netflix: June 2024’s Best New Movies & Shows

With a new month comes the hotly anticipated conclusion of Bridgerton season three, as well as Glen Powell’s steamy new caper and a romantic comedy featuring Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron.

Summer is in full swing, and with it comes a heated update to Netflix’s selection. Now that the first half of Bridgerton season three has dropped, culminating in a hot-and-bothered carriage ride between Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin (Luke Newton), a spicy conclusion is upon us. But these long-awaited friends-to-lovers aren’t the only ones getting busy. In Hit Man, Glen Powell and Adria Arjona engage in some forbidden foreplay when Powell poses as an undercover killer—and Arjona enlists him to off her abusive husband.

Netflix is also offering up a dose of comedy in June, including new stand-up specials from Keith Robinson and Jo Koy—the latter in his return to the stage after effectively bombing at this year’s Golden Globes. And in honor of Pride Month, we’ll get Outstanding: A Comedy Revolution, a documentary feature which is set to be released on June 18. That project gathers influential LGBTQ+ comedians, including Lily Tomlin, Wanda Sykes, and Margaret Cho, for an evening of laughter.

As for other new documentaries hitting the streamer, June 19’s Black Barbie recounts a tale not included in Greta Gerwig’s big-screen blockbuster: the conception of Mattel’s first-ever Black doll—and its enduring impact. June 5’s How to Rob a Bank is decidedly less upbeat, focusing on a 1990s Seattle bank robber whose heists were facilitated by a treehouse hideout and Hollywood-esque disguises. Speaking of real-life terror: A second season of Perfect Match, which strands singles from various Netflix dating reality shows on an island, debuts June 7.

Here’s what else is coming to Netflix in June:

Hit Man

Richard Linklater’s latest is built, as Vanity Fair’s Richard Lawson put it in his review, on “a risky flirtation” between Glen Powell’s fake hit man (real name Gary Johnson) and his potential client Maddy, played by Adria Arjona. He’s working undercover as a phony assassin; she’s a desperate housewife angling for a way out of her abusive marriage—what could go wrong? Hit Man debuts theatrically on May 24 before hitting Netflix on June 7.

My Next Guest Needs No Introduction With David Letterman Season 5

In his post–Late Show chapter, David Letterman has embraced long-form interviews with headline-making subjects, from Kim Kardashian and Will Smith to Billie Eilish and Barack Obama. In the fifth installment of his Netflix series, Letterman leads wide-ranging conversations with Grammy winner Miley Cyrus and basketball legend Charles Barkley. New episodes debut on June 12.

The third season of Bridgerton is split into two parts—the first four episodes arrived on May 16, with the final four dropping June 13. “We didn’t initially plan for there to be a break in the middle,” new showrunner Jess Brownell tells VF. “Netflix approached us about splitting the season in two. It’s something I think they’re trying out across their platform, and it worked out perfectly, actually. We had a natural break at the end of episode four. I’m sure it’s going to be frustrating for some fans, but it’s nice to have that break to take it all in and speculate about what’s to come.” Fans can also expect Penelope’s answer to Colin’s heated post-carriage proposal, some major turns for middle Bridgerton sister Francesca (Hannah Dodd), and a new suitor for family matriarch Violet (Ruth Gemmell), plus more good old-fashioned Lady Whistledown drama.

A Family Affair

More than a decade after starring together in Lee Daniels’s The Paperboy, Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron reunite as unlikely lovers in a new romantic comedy from Richard LaGravenese (The Last Five Years, P.S. I Love You). Their attraction is complicated for one Joey King, who plays the daughter of Kidman and a former employee of Efron. It may also be tough for Kathy Bates, who plays an undisclosed role in the film, which is out June 28.
