I am presently far from Virginia, but many of my ancestors had property directly along the Blackwater River, which is fed by the swamp. It should be pointed out that this a mostly pristine watershed that eventually meets up with the Nottoway River to form the Chowan, which then flows into the Albemarle Sound. Increasing nutrient levels from farm runoff and other sources has badly degraded the Chesapeake Bay, and this is a similar situation. It may seem a small, much diluted addition to the overall watershed, but this kind of incremental nutrient pollution is exactly the kind of thing that needs to be addressed throughout the Virginia Tidewater area. I wish I could be of help. I would reach out to environmental scientists and other experts.
