Professor Leslie Allen MA was an Australian academic and poet. He was Professor of English at the Royal Military College, Duntroon, the senior lecturer of English and Latin at Canberra University College and chairman of the Literature Censorship Board.
Leslie Holdsworthy Allen was born on 21st June 1879 in Maryborough, Victoria (Australia). He was the third son of William Allen and Martha Holdsworth. [1]
He was educated at Newington College and then the University of Sydney, where he studied English and classics (BA, 1904; MA, 1920).
Leslie married New Zealander Dora Bavin on 22nd December 1915 in Sydney's northern suburbs. [2] Dora passed away in Canberra in 1932; their only son had died previously in childhood.
Aged 84 years, he passed away on 5th January 1964 in Moruya, New South Wales. [3] He was survived by his only daughter.
