Biography

Mary was born in Egypt, during Nelson's campaign against Napolean. Her father Charles being in the 30th foot regiment at this time. Her mother's name was Bridget.

She married a William Norton and they had at least 6 children. Can family descendants please up date this when they can please.

Mary came out to Australia from Ireland with some of her children on the Mangerton (arriving 29 Jul 1855) to join the rest who had already moved to New South Wales. The children who accompanied her to New south Wales were James age 20, Sarah aged 18 and Jane aged 15 years.

Her husband William perhaps intended to come to Australia but died before he could leave. She kept in contact with her children in Australia. In later years Mary lived with her son Thomas. She was buried next to her daughter Anne.
