SAD BURNING FATALITY NEAR GULGONG
A burning tragedy of a particularly sad nature occurred at /Rockleigh/, near Gulgong, on Boxing Day; Mrs. Fred. Wisbey was at work in the washhouse at about 9 am on that day, when her clothes caught fire. It is supposed fhat she was not aware of the fact until she was approaching a clothes line in the yard, the flames bursting forth suddenly .... her cries attracting the attention of some men who were milking. One of them seized a bag and succeeded in stifling the flames, but not before the unfortunate woman had been terribly burned. Dr. Allport, of Gulgong, did all that was humanly possible, but Mrs. Wisbey died the following morning. She was buried in Gulgong cemetery on the 28th instant. Rev. G. S. Watts officiating. Deceased was only 25 years of age and leaves a little baby nine months old. Her father, mother and two brothers reside in Sydney, and Mrs. Henry Charlton (Mudgee) is a sister-in-law. News of the tragedy caused a painful impression throughout the district and great sympathy is expressed for the bereaved ones.[5]
