Cecil Aubrey Coghlan was born in Redfern, New South Wales on 1 January 1879. He was the fourth and youngest son of Thomas Coghlan and Dorcus Jordan. Like his older brothers he was educated at Sydney Grammar School.
He worked as a solicitor's clerk whilst studying law at the University of Sydney. Upon graduation, he was admitted 1900 as a solicitor and eventually ran a substantial industrial practice.
Cecil married Ellen Grant in the residence of her father "Belubula" near Cargo, New South Wales on 29 August 1901.[1][2] The couple subsequently had three children.
In 1921 he was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Council.
Cecil died on 26 August 1924 at Darling Point, in Sydney's inner eastern suburbs, aged 45. [3][4][5][6]
