Mary Donaldson was born on 28th March 1913 in Mackay, Queensland, Australia. She was the daughter of Thomas Henry Donaldson and Alice Ward. [1] The family later moved to New South Wales, settling near Mosman in Sydney's northern suburbs. She attended Redlands School, Cremorne.
Whilst attending the University of Sydney, Mary met fellow student, Lawrence Jackson. at a university ball. The two courted and married on 30th December 1937 in the Congregational Church, Mosman. [2] The young couple left for Perth, Western Australia by sea the following day, where Lawrence had joined his uncle's legal firm as a solicitor. They made their home at Forrest Street, Peppermint Grove, where they raised their family, comprising:
Mary's husband later became a judge in the Western Australian Supreme Court and Chief Justice of Western Australia. When he was knighted in 1964, Mary became entitled as Lady Jackson.
After retiring in 1977, Mary and Lawrence moved into smaller premises at Cliff Way, Claremont, and later to a retirement village in Mount Claremont.
She passed away after 1993, when Lawrence passed, in Western Australia.
