Helen Mary Manning was born on November 22, 1861 in Sydney, Colony of New South Wales, daughter of William Montagu Manning (1811–1895) and Eliza Anne Sowerby (1827–1913).[1]

Helen (26) married Greville Phillips Tregarthen (23) (born in June, 1864 in Kensington, Middlesex, England; son of Rev William Francis Tregarthen and Harriet Fonblanque (Philipps) Tregarthen) on April 11, 1888 in Woollahra, New South Wales.[3]
The marriage of Mr. G. P. Tregarthen and Miss Nellie Manning, daughter of Sir William Manning, attracted a large and fashionable gathering to All Saints' Anglican Church, Woollahra, last week. The interior of the church was prettily decorated with flowers and greenery. The bride looked pretty in a rich dress of white watered silk, with tulle veil, diamond ornaments, and orange blossoms. The bridesmaids, three in number, wore dresses of white liberty silk, with hata of white lisse, adorned with white feathers. The wedding breakfast was largely attended, and ofter the customary toasts the newly married couple departed to spend the honeymoon in Bowral.[4] |
