Horace Greeley Hjalmar was born in 1877 as son of merchant ("Kaufmann") William Leonhard Ludwig Maximillian Schacht and his Danish wife Baroness Constanze Justine Sophie von Eggers.
He was President of the Federal Bank from 1923 until 1930 and from March 1933 until January 1939 as well as Minister for Economy from 1934 to 1937.
He passed away in 1970.
He was related to Margarethe Räntsch-Köstlin, the mother of Beate Uhse, via the Berlin based family of brewers, she was a daughter of.[1] He and his wife were Beate's godparents.[2]
The name Horace he received as an honor to Horace Greeley.
