I am related to the Whittens of County Armagh in Northern Ireland. I don't know if you've been successful in tracing any family information, but I've found quite a lot recently after banging my head against a wall for a while now. All it takes is stumbling across the right person.
Your name stood out because it is unusual. My Great Grandfather was Robert Francis Whitten of Co Armagh. His brother was Dr William John Whitten who had at least 5 children...one son was called Athol William James Whitten 1875-1943. If any of this information seems relevant please get in touch.
We are so happy you decided to upgrade to the Family Member level.
Please visit our tutorial pages to learn how to use WikiTree: How To Use WikiTree. They will save you time, energy, and frustration as you add your family profiles.
Exploring the site is the best way to learn. One way to do that is to check out the drop-down menus on the top right side of your profile page. Finding a known ancestor and collaborating with the profile manager is another great way to start.
You mentioned that you don’t know much about your family tree yet. I assume you are new to genealogy. No problem! Every genealogist is a beginner at some point. Take your time, keep track of sources, and ask questions. Check here for tips.

G'day Chris, Thanks for the welcome note! I joined last week after starting to search some family history and exploring different sites. I saw this one was founded by a Whitten and figured it would be a great place to start! My Whitten ancestors arrived in Australia from Northern Ireland in 1854, from County Armagh. I have a good record of their history thanks to my Uncle. Am looking for a place to store the information more permanently!
This is just a note to say hello and to let you know that I'm available to answer questions about joining WikiTree.

I hope you decide WikiTree is the right place. There is a learning curve, but there's an active community in G2G willing to help.
My Whitten ancestors have been in New England since the 18th century (Whitten-1205) but our origins in Britain are still unclear.
